  1. What sort of gigs are you doing? Is it worth carrying around a small monitoring rig that you split off to FoH? Check out section 5 here -
  2. I reckon this shape would look great with a smooth matte slate grey with darker grey decals. It's a cool shape and I love that rear contour.
  3. Google calendar. Although an acceptance for a date doesn't tend to mean a great deal of late.
  4. Ah true. Is there a MIDI implementation chart? As you say though, no feedback to acknowledge program change.
  5. Hey @stoo - was thinking about this project again thinking about easy to implement small little improvements. Playing with my Kemper, (which annoys me due to the lack of scribble strips on the foot pedal) I thought... aha, you could assign LED colours/state colours (maybe for FX type etc) using ws2812b pixels - at a cost of only one pin because the strip is addressable. Cheap, easy to implement... and if you are going down the programmable route anyway, gives you an easy at a glance colour coded status. Anyway, just a thought. There's plenty of pixel libraries out there which would get you up and running in minutes.
  6. Oh yeah. I'd love a Hofner violin 5er bass. I'd be all over that. Otherwise, I would never choose to pick it up. It would just be in it's case and looked at now and again. And then sold cos I never play it.
  7. Also @GreeneKing - the blue LED in there to which you refer - are those the ones from the post further above. If so, it would seem that the voltage on the Fafner light is not 42v... or 48v otherwise those LEDs would have been toasted. In reality, I am guessing that the stock bulbs are mismatched on the voltage front - maybe intentionally, to give a more valve like glow as opposed to a bright light? May be worth getting a meter in there next time somebody has one open so we know what the actual voltage being delivered is.
  8. Looks great. I always thought the Fafner looks better with blue lights on the right anyway... but each to their own!
  9. I reckon they'll be targeting DB751 money... however, what with Megxit and all that kinda stuff and import duties and stuff, I hope for EBS' sake it's cheap enough to make it a viable option in the UK.
  10. Congrats. Building your own stuff is proper satisfying isn’t it?
  11. A certain screw in a certain strap lock.
  12. Coming up to 5 years. Impressive.
  13. Yeah, totally - it didn't do them any favours did it? I think a lot of people would have discarded on the published figures alone without even testing it.
  14. I'd concur, with regard to the DRs. OK, they are not Hi-beam bright.. but they are certainly bright as opposed to super bright. As you say, I never really dug on Elixirs because they didn't do the Hi-beam thing, but I wanted a tighter string than a Hi-beam which is why I eventually settled on Lo-riders (which is near enough damn it Hi-beam sounding).
  15. The Fafner was a bit more edgier that the HD350 and TD650. Yeah, in terms of real world power, the perceived volume and headroom were actually very similar. It was only when you stuck two of the bigger cabinets on Fafner would you begin to hear and detect a difference - but it certainly wasn't night and day. The 12db/Octave roll off does keep everything tighter and less swampy - but if you roll up the bass to counteract the, they still deliver useful bass. Of course, you don't want sub bass on stage, which is why you then DI to FoH to get the lows out (and ditch the sound of the pres). Thats where the routing options of the Fafner 2 got interesting. It enabled you to get the seperate elements of the DI to mix and also, the way it was designed enabled you to get the heavy drives without giving up the bottom end clarity (which is where the blend came in). Great designed amps but as you say, overkill for most people... but then it was designed with a particular market in mind - the players that love the dirty grindy sound... the polar opposite of what people usually came to expect from EBS. It was a way of breaking a new market... and it worked for them in central Europe. Anyway, it would seem the extra power means that they can do more with sub bass... but EBS primary view was to create a great players amp that works live without swamping the stage with useless subby frequencies. I think they realised that studio wise, people went with pres and DIs and not necessarily their amps.
  16. If you look in the rack, you'll see a HD350 at the top of the rack, which was always Marcus' choice of EBS amp. I don't know if that's hire stock or not - artists generally like Marcus have backline landed for them at the gig so they just turn up and play if it's an adhoc gig. Same with Tal - I remember going out to deliver a few amps and cabs for Tal when she was in the UK with Jeff Beck and Vinnie C. Anyway, I say HD350 was Marcus' choice of amp, his own amp was actually a HD350+ which was never made available to the general public. It's a HD350 preamp mated to a TD650 power amp but still in 2u package - so the best of both amps. It was never released as it would have killed the reason for the HD350 and TD650 both existing... and killed the lower price/higher price offerings. Shame really, as that probably was, the best amp that EBS has ever made. But then again, we may have a new contender now, especially if the 802 shares the same filters as the original 350.
  17. Marcus kinda got them that rep. When they hit their peak in popularity, they were pretty much the go to RnB, gospel and the amp that would give you a great Marcus impression. Even when Marcus had his signature SWR he was still using EBS live to get him in the ballpark of his studio sound. EBS went through a period of targeting a completely different market - generally heavy rock and European metal. They succeeded and have become a very popular amp in that sector. They kind of fell out of favour in the UK due to them not having anything to offer when the world was going mad for tiny class D... and then when they released the Reidmar, it was a little too late - and not as dinky and appealing as the other offerings out there. And despite being monstrously loud, the Reidmar specs on paper weren’t favourable compared to the competition (remember volume isn’t measured in Watts) Interesting amp and I’m sure it’s ace. Not sure it has mass appeal in the Uk though. Time will tell I guess. I knew something was in the works when they pretty much removed their flagship amp range. I likey.
  18. Yeah kinda. It’s only really, really noticeable when you AB the two together. They both sound EBS, just for most, the tuning on the originals sounds a little bit sweeter.
  19. Defo cabled like this?
  20. Nope - even the latest latency figures are way over what you’d need for IEM, especially if you add more latency through other digital devices in the chain (eg like a digital mixer)
  21. Couple of years ago now - so not sure if I was before or after any change that may have happened.
  22. Great marketing - but bit of a trek for me.
  23. Don't use those unless you want to release some magic smoke. Also, if you take the lid off, you may want to give the pots and valve bass a sprinkling of servisol.
  24. You may want to try some DR coated. They coat their strings before winding. I believe Elixir coat their strings after winding. When I was dabbling with coated strings, I found the DRs coating didn't start coming off like the Elixir ones. Ultimately, I settled on non coated and found my string of preference - DR Lo-Rider.
  25. Funnily enough, I wrote musician first... and thought it was a bit too derogatory. We could start a whole thread on lazy musicians and I could spend the rest of my days reporting on it. Musicians : Always somebody's else's fault "You wouldn't know what it's like because you aren't a musician" "I struggle for my art" (so much I don't get out of bed) If they worked on their art 9 to 5 like an office job, their level of musicianship would be a lot higher etc etc... "Poor me, poor me." Anyway, don't get me started. I seem to be surrounded by lazy musicians at the moment and it's really getting me down. Which brings me onto musicians being one of the greatest sectors with mental health problems. It's no wonder... they are all complete c**ts to each other. All nice to each other faces - but quick to stab each other in the back or attempt to nick each others gigs. Toxic world. I tread very carefully.
