  1. The Fafner was a bit more edgier that the HD350 and TD650. Yeah, in terms of real world power, the perceived volume and headroom were actually very similar. It was only when you stuck two of the bigger cabinets on Fafner would you begin to hear and detect a difference - but it certainly wasn't night and day. The 12db/Octave roll off does keep everything tighter and less swampy - but if you roll up the bass to counteract the, they still deliver useful bass. Of course, you don't want sub bass on stage, which is why you then DI to FoH to get the lows out (and ditch the sound of the pres). Thats where the routing options of the Fafner 2 got interesting. It enabled you to get the seperate elements of the DI to mix and also, the way it was designed enabled you to get the heavy drives without giving up the bottom end clarity (which is where the blend came in). Great designed amps but as you say, overkill for most people... but then it was designed with a particular market in mind - the players that love the dirty grindy sound... the polar opposite of what people usually came to expect from EBS. It was a way of breaking a new market... and it worked for them in central Europe. Anyway, it would seem the extra power means that they can do more with sub bass... but EBS primary view was to create a great players amp that works live without swamping the stage with useless subby frequencies. I think they realised that studio wise, people went with pres and DIs and not necessarily their amps.
  2. If you look in the rack, you'll see a HD350 at the top of the rack, which was always Marcus' choice of EBS amp. I don't know if that's hire stock or not - artists generally like Marcus have backline landed for them at the gig so they just turn up and play if it's an adhoc gig. Same with Tal - I remember going out to deliver a few amps and cabs for Tal when she was in the UK with Jeff Beck and Vinnie C. Anyway, I say HD350 was Marcus' choice of amp, his own amp was actually a HD350+ which was never made available to the general public. It's a HD350 preamp mated to a TD650 power amp but still in 2u package - so the best of both amps. It was never released as it would have killed the reason for the HD350 and TD650 both existing... and killed the lower price/higher price offerings. Shame really, as that probably was, the best amp that EBS has ever made. But then again, we may have a new contender now, especially if the 802 shares the same filters as the original 350.
  3. Marcus kinda got them that rep. When they hit their peak in popularity, they were pretty much the go to RnB, gospel and the amp that would give you a great Marcus impression. Even when Marcus had his signature SWR he was still using EBS live to get him in the ballpark of his studio sound. EBS went through a period of targeting a completely different market - generally heavy rock and European metal. They succeeded and have become a very popular amp in that sector. They kind of fell out of favour in the UK due to them not having anything to offer when the world was going mad for tiny class D... and then when they released the Reidmar, it was a little too late - and not as dinky and appealing as the other offerings out there. And despite being monstrously loud, the Reidmar specs on paper weren’t favourable compared to the competition (remember volume isn’t measured in Watts) Interesting amp and I’m sure it’s ace. Not sure it has mass appeal in the Uk though. Time will tell I guess. I knew something was in the works when they pretty much removed their flagship amp range. I likey.
  4. Yeah kinda. It’s only really, really noticeable when you AB the two together. They both sound EBS, just for most, the tuning on the originals sounds a little bit sweeter.
  5. Defo cabled like this?
  6. Nope - even the latest latency figures are way over what you’d need for IEM, especially if you add more latency through other digital devices in the chain (eg like a digital mixer)
  7. Couple of years ago now - so not sure if I was before or after any change that may have happened.
  8. Great marketing - but bit of a trek for me.
  9. Don't use those unless you want to release some magic smoke. Also, if you take the lid off, you may want to give the pots and valve bass a sprinkling of servisol.
  10. You may want to try some DR coated. They coat their strings before winding. I believe Elixir coat their strings after winding. When I was dabbling with coated strings, I found the DRs coating didn't start coming off like the Elixir ones. Ultimately, I settled on non coated and found my string of preference - DR Lo-Rider.
  11. Funnily enough, I wrote musician first... and thought it was a bit too derogatory. We could start a whole thread on lazy musicians and I could spend the rest of my days reporting on it. Musicians : Always somebody's else's fault "You wouldn't know what it's like because you aren't a musician" "I struggle for my art" (so much I don't get out of bed) If they worked on their art 9 to 5 like an office job, their level of musicianship would be a lot higher etc etc... "Poor me, poor me." Anyway, don't get me started. I seem to be surrounded by lazy musicians at the moment and it's really getting me down. Which brings me onto musicians being one of the greatest sectors with mental health problems. It's no wonder... they are all complete c**ts to each other. All nice to each other faces - but quick to stab each other in the back or attempt to nick each others gigs. Toxic world. I tread very carefully.
  12. I think the biggest problem, is that most people are fundamentally lazy on that front... whether they are gifted or not in the marketing/sales department.
  13. Just stumbled across http://www.stagewave.io another system in the same guise as https://audiofusionsystems.com/ Umm, not convinced with audiofusion but not tried stagewave... however I suspect the same will be true. L-a-t-e-n-c-yyyyyy
  14. The problem is the attitude with the band members. They expect instant reward with no input from themselves. I've had it time and time again with my bands. People are pricks and don't understand promotion of a band is pretty much a full time occupation/lifestyle, to get anywhere, whether that be signed, fame... function... or even getting regular pub gigs. It's a saturated market. There's some amazing produced songs out there that get absolutely nowhere... A produced single alone is not the secret of success. I'm guessing at the entry level, there's a lot of shark producers too... so I would be treading very carefully.
  15. Function scene money can be around 250 a gig. And gear is a tax deductible expense. So it depends on the stature of your gigging... hobbyist, semi-pro (with secondary income), pro. I suspect these things will become common place on the wedding and corporate scene, just like the Helix and Kemper is.
  16. Given it's specs, if it delivers the goods, I'd say it's pricing is spot on in competing with the rest of the market leaders.
  17. What people do with their money is fine by me (as long as it’s legal) Just my personal preference and experience. Not unduly pessimistic, just acting upon past lessons learned! Yes I am interested. Yes it does look awesome.
  18. That's a good starting point! Nothing to worry about then!
  19. Of course there won't. Have you not heard their plugins? (Because plugins immediately make you a boss in manufacturing and physical distribution etc etc etc...)
  20. I'm going to have to let you down I'm afraid. It's a significant birthday weekend that I could not possibly miss.
  21. Yup. The Internet is a crazy place. Only takes a few people to hype a product and suddenly based on nothingness, it becomes the greatest thing since sliced bread. Of course, given all the people that have signed up, not only have they got to get the product out... but they got to do before people start going "you've got my money, where is it?" Any slight manufacturing mishaps and the company will be dead in the water with lots of angry punters. Again, seen it before far too many times. Me? Negative? No... just realistic. I'll be looking forwards to when I can hold it in my hands at a shop and have a proper nose and play (and of course, read about all the bugs being ironed out before I even consider going there... that's a lot of money to throw into a rapidly depreciating asset!)
  22. Ahem... MasterFader 5.1 from Mackie for their DL mixers. I think it's more than a year overdue now.
  23. Indeed. There's one thing showing off a product at NAMM. And one thing actually getting the product to market and in your hands. And that's before we even talk about software bugs and the like. I'll let everybody ride the hype (which is what it is) before I take too much notice. I can see that it looks good... -it may even sound good (although the social media platforms are probably not best used to determine such things). I've been caught up in this sort of game before. Can people remember the Octavius Squeezer? I bought a X-Deep Black Dive Computer.... bit of a problem that the screen is now out of production (18 months after it's release) - and guess which bit is the common failure point. On top of that, inaccurate depth and temperature measurements. I'll let other people have the ballache before I play this type of game again.
