1.
Times like these - Foo Fighters. If I don't count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1, 2..... I'm lost
Times Like These was the very song I was thinking of! In fact we played it at a gig on Thursday with a dep drummer - complete car crash, as he clearly couldn't count to seven
  2.
I think they are pretty versatile, you can either have clank or clang...
Which of those did McCartney do with the Beatles? I don't remember any clank or clang there.
  3. I think they're far more versatile than people tend to assume. Yes, you can do the clanky aggressive tone with a pick. But roll back the tone and you can get a nice thumpy 60s tone (McCartney used one in the Beatles, after all). The neck pickup solo'd with the tone rolled back, even gets into jazz territory. They're never going to give you a hi fi, active tone, but they're certainly not one trick ponies either.
  4. I don't count in standard timings. I just rely on the feel and/or the drummer! But we do a couple of numbers with odd timings (eg 7/8) and I do find myself consciously counting through those, at elast when we're learning the songs.
  5. That didn't last long! Bargain for someone.
  6.
Nothing else needs saying, although given that the fairer sex seems quite colour savvy I'd strongly advise sticking to one finish on all basses - to all but the expert, a 3tsb Jazz looks pretty similar to a 3tsb Precision, 'ray or Ric. Don't get careless though, for example with fingerboards. They will notice for example that 'the bit where you put your hands was darker last time I saw it'. Stick to maple or rosewood, don't mix them and all is OK.
This! I got away with sunburst and natural basses for years. Then made the mistake of using a fiesta red fender, and was rumbled immediately!
  7. Great to see a Mike Dirnt signature with a maple board. Very tempting!
  8.
I have one for sale here... http://basschat.co.u...02#entry2194602
Very nice! I'll need to sell this first though, unless you're interested in a part exchange?
  9.
Stupid nugget of knowledge - think this was called 'Hot Rod Red'. Cool bass.
Thanks Andy. It does look a it darker than Fiesta Red, so I'm sure you're right
  10.
What guitar amps are you eying up?
I'm looking for a combo for rehearsals / small gigs, preferrably valve, and something nice and simple (I can't get on with those fancy Line 6 modelling thingies!). Otherwise, I'm pretty open minded...
  11.
That's lovely!
It is rather nice! I would have been tempted to keep it, but I really cannot justify it, and need to put the money towards a decent guitar amp.
  12. I think the one you've seen at £1600 is pretty optimistically priced by the seller. £1200 to £1300 is probably a decent price in the current market.

    SOLD

I recently took this as part of an exchange deal. It's a really nice bass, but I cannot justify keeping it. It's a 2000 Jazz, in good condition. There are a few minor marks, as you would expect from a 13 year old bass, but nothing major. The colour looks like Fiesta Red to me, although I'm not 100% sure on that. It has Wizard 64 pickups fitted, along with concentric volume and tone pots for each pickup. The tone and volume for each pickup adds some real versatility compared to v/v/t - I'm not sure why Fender ever changed that! The original pickups and control plate/electrics are included, so it would be easy to switch back to stock (and I dare say you could sell on the Wizards and the concentric plate for £100 or so). The bass is currently fitted with the original white/mint guard, but a perfectly fitting black one is included in the sale (I've added a pic with the black guard sitting on the bass). i don't have a Fender hardcase, but will included a good quality padded gigbag. I'm looking for £625 plus shipping. I'm not really looking for trades on this one. 14. Met up with Lee in a random layby in Hampshire for a trade. Great chap to deal with. Hope you're enjoying the Jazz!
  15. Another recommendation for mighty mite from me. Very nice necks
  16. Our guitarist has one of these. Lovely guitar - he actually prefers it to his Taylor. Sadly I'm not in the market for an acoustic, but have a free bump!
  17.
though it is disappointing to find the old discussion reemerging around the nature of the sales ban.
Gus - I actually posted that back in June, so it's a bit unfair to suggest my post is now the cause of the old discussion re-emerging. In fact, I thought my post had been deleted!
  18. Fender Precision Ric 4003 Stingray ...and then two more precisions!
  19.
trade with LowEnd LEJ 5 string ?
Sorry - I'm not after 5 strings, I'm afraid.
  20.
This looks like a beautiful and very clean example example of this era of Jazz Bass . Very fair price too . If I were you , Simon , I would ask for a bit more cash so you can have enough left over after buying an HH Stingray to get a season ticket for Norwich City's forthcoming relegation season in the Premiership . Just kidding ! ( well not really ...) If this bass was in a shop in London it would be sold already . Have a bump on me .
Thanks for the bump Dingus. And worry not - with our new strike force I'm tipping the Canaries for a top half finish!
  21. Weekend bump! I actually gigged this last night as I had been thinking of keeping it. The gig reminded me what a fantastic sound this bass has - loads of that lovely classic Jazz growl. Unfortunately, it also remind me that sadly i don't get on with skinny Jazz necks. My fat hands like a chunky precision or 'ray!
  22. Really enjoyable gig tonight at the Old Volunteer in Nottingham, which is always a good venue. Great sound and a great audience. All made a bit more special by the fact that my son was depping for us on drums - first time I've gigged with him which was nice. And it also lowered the average age of the band by a considerable margin!
  23. Looks legit to me, but as previous posters have said, definitely one to try before you buy. The neck could be unplayable if it's been stored in damp conditions as he describes.
