1.
Disappointing in what way? Are you disappointed because I gave you an honest answer?
But to be fair to Karlfer, he was actually invited to start a thread in General Discussion by another Mod, when the issue got raised in a For Sale thread. That same Mod has even transferred some of the posts from the hijacked For Sale thread here. So your accusation of "sh1t stirring" does come across as a bit heavy handed. PS - yes, I do realise it was a post by me that lead to the hijacking of the For Sale thread. Apologies!
 2. First gig with the new walnut 4003 last night, and it performed superbly. Lovely ric growl. And it turned out the landlord was bit of a Ric fan and had a 1969 fireglo with chequer binding which he kindly let me have a post gig play on!
 3.
Mods, please delete if you think inappropriate. And my apologies if it is so. Really just what it says above. Is it possible to review the situation regarding the forbidding of Rick sales here? There have been a couple of comments requesting looking at allowing real ones to be sold again. IE, possibly allowed after being vetted by a small committee of real bass and fakers experts. I for one find it sad such an iconic instrument is missing from our sales section. And yes, I know all the original reasons for the ban. Again Mods, apologies if I am out of order, the intent is not to stir it up, but perhaps to look to moving forward. Cheers, Karl.
+1 to all of that
 4.
One last set of glam shots before she sadly goes on evil bay. 1980. 4001 for you Ricky fans, not sure what the colour is called.
Very nice. The the colour looks like Rickenbacker's "autumnglo" to me, which is a relatively rare colour.
 5.
Thankyou both look the biz......apparently it sorts ground earthing problem which is quite common in some P and J Basses.....but I'm very happy with mine.....cheers.
The earthing strip was used by Fender on the early Jazz basses. It was, of course, not visible with the bridge pickup cover on. Without checking, I'm not sure when they stopped using it, but it had certainly gone by the 70s. Some, but not all, of Fender's 60s Jazz reissues also have the strip. If they do have it, they are more accurate!
 6.
Rehearsed my one twice and gigged with it once and can honestly say I've never played a better Ric. Built beautifully too I guess I was lucky
Same for me. Removed the pickup cover (looks nice but gets in the way!), and stuck some decent strings on, and it really is an awesome bass. I guess I was lucky too
 7.
Here's my mid-80s 4003
Very nice!
 8. As much as I love my Rics, I would always advise anyone to try before they buy. They are very different ergonomically. Not better or worse, but certainly different... Sorry you haven't got on with yours Muzz.
 9.
Pics and reports pleaseeee!
Pics to follow! Report wise, I've had a decent play since I got home, and initial impression is very favourable. I know Rics have a reputation for variable QC, but the finish on this one is immaculate. They look stunning in the flesh. Tone wise, it's very similar to my current '98 4003. The bridge pickup is classic Ric growl and clank. Roll the treble off and you get a very versatile tone - not unlike a good Precision. The neck pickup is the typical Ric neck thump sound. And the neck pickup is a bit lower output - again typical Ric in my experience. But personally I only ever use the bridge pickup! The tone is possibly marginally brighter than my old Ric - although I suspect that is down to age of the strings more than anything else. The neck is fantastic IMO. No taper, of course, so won't be to everyone's taste. Quite chunky, but it fits my hands really well (I can never get on with skinny Jazz necks!). The frets are finished superbly, and this one came really well set up (which I guess is down to Forsyths, who always seem to have their instruments set up nicely). The only down side is that our gig on Saturday has just cancelled, so it will be another week before I can try it out in anger!
 10. Well, Forsyths in Manchester had one in stock when I visited this morning, and it was so nice I had to pull the trigger! Will have to sell something else now to cover it, given the strict one in / one out policy Mrs 1964 has imposed on bass purchases FWIW, they told me they have got four on order, and seem confident they'll shift the lot
 11.
So, has anyone seen these at a particularly competitive price?
I doubt you're going to see any discounts on these, as it's a newly released limited edition colour. I'd be interested to know if they're in stock anywhere - I suspect Old Horse Murphy has got pretty much the first one in the UK!
 12. Walnut and maple - lovely! I didn't realise they were in stock anywhere either. Very nice!
 13. Wow! Always been a fan of Rics and of walnut. Very tempting!
 14. Just sold Marc a pedal. Excellent communications and fast payment. A pleasure to deal with, thanks!
 15. The other thing to remember if you're gigging is that most music instrument insurance will also give you a good level of public liability insurance as well. It's unlikely you home contents would provide that
 16. Slightly different one with a great live tone (IMO!)..
 17.
And another great choice - one of my all time favourite tunes. Pretty much any Stone Roses track could get a mention in this thread - She Bangs the Drums, Waterfall, Made of Stone, Ten Story Love Song are all great Ric bass lines
In fact, Ten Story Love Song deserves a link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uNLw3pXlVM
 18.
It needs the share link dropping on the page... 19.
He's firing on all cylinders here
Great clip!
 20.
Is that the standard "Centre positive" 9v or 12v supply? I'm just wondering how it works on the lower voltage.... ... and whether I can run it off one of the small stockpile of power supplies I already have...
Yes - I've been running it on a standard 9v power supply.
 21. Bump - still available
 22. Due to a series of unfortunate events (I'll spare you the details!) we may have to pull out of a paid gig in Nottingham this Saturday. We are trying to find a replacement act, and I thought I would post on here to see whether any Basschatter's bands would want to take the gig? It's a pub venue, which we've not played before. We are a pretty bog standard rock / indie covers band, so I assume they would be looking for something similar. PM me if you are interested. I will put you in touch with our guitarist who is trying to sort things as I type! Mods - apologies if this is in the wrong forum. Please move as appropriate!
 23. Beautiful! I'm not normally a fan of blue basses, but for some reason Azureglow Rics look awesome
