1.
Joanne - Shaw Taylor at the local Picturedrome, Friday.
Good venue. Seeing JST in Manchester in January.
2. Just stumbled across this topic. Excellent stuff, loving all the tiny details.
3.
Aynsley Lister in Bury tonight.
...and bloody good it was too.
4. Well I have several ACGs and only one Fender. I find the individual attention you get from a top luthier, in my case from Alan at AC, is invaluable in providing advice and guidance on the build. I think the back street garage comparison is not really comparing apples with apples so I'll let it be. It's is of course a very personal thing and many people don't like 'coffee table' basses. I just happen to admire the attention to detail, the craftmanship and the complete dismay of the luthier if the bass is not perfect for the customer.
5. I have these for my ACGs, top bags in my view: https://www.fusion-bags.com/collections/guitar-gig-bags/products/f1-bass-guitar-gig-bag
6. Jetglo Ricki. Saved for ages to buy one and then was massively disappointed by it. Tried to get on with it for around 15 months then ended up selling it (for a modest profit).
7. Aynsley Lister in Bury tonight.
8. Mine was just like this one, cost me £90 iirc. http://www.ebay.co.u...U4AAOSwmLlX3sUR
9. Deffo Yamaha. My first fretless was a pre-loved Yamaha RBX270F bought on Fleabay, pretty decent and eventually sold it on for roughly what I paid for it four years later. Good basses.
10. There's clearly a trend here and a good reason why there is so much positive feedback for Dan. It's because Dan is a... Top banana! Just acquired a Fender P bass from Dan and everything was tickety boo, so thanks very much for the perfect transaction.
11. Anything by Chic Upside Down - Diana Ross Loads more as above
12. Probably the Beatles but I voted for Bob 'cause I like reggae.
13. One of the tags on this topic says Leyland. If that's a reference to the place then it's possibly very near me (other Leylands may be available). Will deffo keep an eye out.
14. My Cali II passive TT had the Sandberg pickups as original fit items. They were just a bit too smooth and rounded so swapped them out for some EMG Xs. These (for me) have been a really worthwhile change.
15.
Considering some of the guitar-based garbage that gets on the show YES!
Good point, well made
16.
A lot of buyers have one eye on resale (not me actually) and anything other than one with the big F on it just doesn't hold it's value the same, we have pages of basses in the for sale section that cost £2500-3500 to have built for sale often for months for £1000-1500. Also the buyers are often 50+ guys that are treating themselves to a bass/guitar they lusted after when younger, the people researching xotic, sei, Roscoe, GB etc etc are in the minority compared to buyers of instruments with an F on purchased and never gigged.
I think much of this is true. However in defence of older citizens with custom-made basses, I would just add that the average new price of my ACGs is c£1,150 all of which are gigged regularly; a couple of hundred less than a new American Std bass give or take.
17.
Stings tune(s) sounded like he ran out of ideas and sat & listened through the entire Police back catalogue for inspiration. Zzzzzzzzzzz................
I think so too. I started wondering if he wasn't Sting and hadn't fronted The Police would those songs have had airplay?
18. Whereabouts in Scotland are you located please?
19. There's a very nice Squier Silver Series Jazz on here for less than your budget so not in either category! It used to be mine but I foolishly sold it and then subsequently bought another one.
20.
Beaut!! Luminlays?
No, they're aluminium dots. Used to be mine this one and sorely tempted to buy it back again.
21. Well, I have 3 atm. A Squier Silver Series, a Sandberg California II with EMG X pickups added and a custom ACG with the basic SEQ filter preamp. All slightly different but good in their own way (successfully avoided answering the question there). If you made me pick one then I'd say ACG closely followed by the Cali II. Sorry, no idea why two pics are rotated?
22.
He has ALWAYS been my prog god. nice to see the world has caught up finally!
This
23. It's an interesting question. The electric bass has only been around for maybe 70 years or so and is therefore a pretty new kid on the block compared to some others. With my rose tinted shades on I'd probably agree with the OP but I think the variety of instruments available today and the leaps and bounds in amplification makes today a pretty tasty time. Whether musicians exploit this is a different argument I think,
