1. Now you can ask the burning question........which piano is best for metal ?
2. Thank you guys for all the replies !! Basschat is great. My SR5 is super light (4.1kg) with most of the weight in the neck. It sounds great though. Based on the info you guys provided and my own experience of owning a 1978 SR4 2EQ for years, I am leaning towards another SR5 but Alnico this time, as I fear a 2EQ will not cut through in every band setting
3. Thanks. My Stingray 5 is from 2000, so Ceramic. Personally it sounds great and easily cuts through in any band setting. More so than the SR4 2EQ I used to have (which kind of got lost in twin Les Paul situations)
4. Hi, does anyone have both these basses ? If so, how do they compare ? I have a normal Stingray 5. Curious to know what the Classic 5 is like (potential next purchase) Thx
5. He plays on Miles Davis "one phone call" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMYhKhqBenY which features Sting's only interesting musical contribution since the Police
6. 1988 - Kim Clarke - Defunkt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFCdYYKQObA
7. Musicman collection. L-R 2000 SR5 1987 3EQ 1978 (sadly sold last week)
8. Hi, Mark bought my 1978 Stingray. Top communication. Superfast bank payment. Flawless transaction. Mark, I hope you enjoy the bass as much as I did over last 15 years. Missing it already. Cheers Ken
9. Hi Guys, After much debate I have decided to put my 1978 stingray up for sale. Price = [s]£1,600[/s] £1,550 I am the 3rd owner. Had it for 15 years. It has been gigged many times both by me and previous owner, a pro muso (who bought it in 1980 second hand) and used it on tour with Gary Numan and Van M among others. It is all original except for fitted Hipshot. Original tuner is included in sale along with a hard case. Body dates from June 1978. Neck is from Sep 1978. I added the details, a few years ago, to Gav's musicman site below : http://www.musicmanb...tompage0052.htm Weight = 4.5kg. All electronics work perfectly. Neck & trussrod also working perfectly. Strung with Cobalt flats.String volume balance is excellent. No silent G. Based in London. Collection preferred. No trades as cutting down on my collection. 10. Had a Ken Smith 16.5mm 5 string. It was too much of a change when switching with standard 4 strings. Sold it and bought a SR5 (17.5mm spacing). Much better.
11. Ditto comments on Alaska. Need to burn your clothes if you go. It stinks.
12. Incredible bass line. Also played on Skipping. Could it be any more busy ?
13. Simple. Who wants to wear armbands & headbands ? 'Nuff said
14. They could write some good tunes .... wasn't all Nicky Chapman. exhibit A : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBdFA6sI6-8
15.
I agree with this - except for the boost and cut - see attached clarification - also clarified in the thread by Rod Trussbroken (owner of the website Musicman.org). http://forums.ernieb...-2-band-eq.html
Yes, the link I sent (on page 2 with graphs) mentions both bass and treble are cut & boost but the cut on the bass is very small - "And looking at the T=0, B=0 curve at the top of your post, I see the evidence for the claim that although the bass pot is supposed to be boost only, it actually has a cut (very small, like -2dB) when set to zero." Personally I find that setting bass to 50% is not flat - its a definite boost. But then again I have a '78 model when there was little consistency.
16.
On the 2-band the bass is boost only, the treble is cut and boost.
This is correct. Link below explains it all. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/instruments-amps/226943-understanding-music-man-stingray-2-band-preamp.html Note I have a 2eq and a 3eq. With a 2eq, I find it better to go easy on bass boost as it quickly becomes overpowering.
17. You should add Clouds. Brilliant track. With a v young Whitney on backing vox https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xADrCKYUEcc
