I’m in exactly the same position. Got a stingray that I bought new in 1989. It’s the only 4 string I still own. Switched to 5 years ago. Don’t need the money but feel guilty it’s not being used. That said, it was a dream bass in the display window in sound control that I promised myself to get if I finished completing a qualification at the time

Thinking about getting a 2nd hand Fender Jazz 5 string (Mex or USA). But wary of potential floppy B string issues. Does anyone have one, if so how do you find the B string? Note, already have SR5 and Ken Smith 5. But curious to try 19mm 5 string

McCormacks and CC Music in Glasgow. Bought a laney 4x10 amp & cab from the former and they delivered it in their branded van. Bought the a JV precision and later a JV jazz from CC music in early 80s

Definitely interested in a SR4 or SR5 neck. Had a status SR4 years ago which I sold on this forum. But would need to be a complete headstock match to stingray like Status made to tempt me.

On a side note, first saw Doug in 1987 at the Venue (?) in Edinburgh with Adrian Sherwood. Tiny place. Was in the front row facing Doug who had 4 and 5 string Spectors, a Tune bass and about 20 effects pedals. Had a wee chat with him a few years later at a Tackhead gig in Glasgow. Really nice guy. Scathing about George Clinton I recall

That’s a fair summary. Had a Burner BSB 5 string (bought & sold here). Great build quality but 16mm spacing I couldn’t handle. Just sold a BT6 (also here). Amazing bass. Incredibly even tone across all notes likes a grand piano. Still have a BT5 (bought here). It’s a keeper. Are the HF basses set with 18mm spacing (same as the BT) or 17.5mm?
