1.
Update. I have already had a great deal of interest in the bass. Astonishingly, I have had 2 offers from overseas buyers at £700+P&P. I would rather not send the bass overseas, but I won't be able to turn down those offers unless I can find a UK buyer willing to pay £700. I will be updating the listing to reflect the change in my asking price. Please accept my apologies if you have been inconvenienced by this.
Hi, where are you in the UK ?

 4.
Um, hello, this is hard for me to really get across well. I'm 15 and reliseing that playing bass is really what I want to do in life. I've been playing for less than three years but I'm like above grade 6 standard, I read sheet music (three days locked in my room), I'm playing in a band (how many 15 year old boys don't?), I'm playing in a jazz band (accredited by local big boys as the best ever school band they have heard), I'm playing scores for big bands and in a school production of Bugsy Malone and taking as many chance as I possibly can (which ain't many in rural Norfolk ). Oh I'm also taking theory lessons and DB lessons. (Blowing my own trumpet, described as 'highly gifted' and the 'best bass student I've taught') So anyway, it's really frustraiting 'cause I see all this insane bas players, more than a few of them preside on this here sight, and I go to myself how do they get there, I woodshed day in day out I listen to whatever the hell I can lay my hands on... So yeh, what I'm trying to say is that I want your help. I want to know where you learnt stuff like how to play over chord changes, how to construct walking bass lines, what to listen to and how to survive in the music industry. (Also if you live/have knoledge of the Norwich/South Norfolk music scene where I could get gigs or go see decent jazz stuff etc.) I know I'm over stepping the line putting all this stuff up here and expecting you to reply, but I'm coming through in the generation of tab and eighth notes, not transcribing and quavers, so please help, cause I want to be part of the future of bass and I don't want that future to be bland, dire infact, because so many other elements of music nowadays are. Thanks.
Get a life dude Mods : close this thread. Its deadly dull
 5.
RE The Glasgow gig - was it the "Blue Matter" tour ? - if so a drummer friend of mine saw that very same gig. Was amazed to see DC's roadie put an ANVIL inside his bass drum to stop it from moving. You couldn't make it up.......
Yep, back in '88. Looking at the vid, it appears Gary has a ramp on his bass. The vid is about 20 years old. Must have been one of the first
 6.
Hi all, I've only been playing bass for a few months now. I use a second hand Wesley bass I use but it's been a great help for learning. I've been watching a lot of bass covers on youtube.. mainly funk/ jazz based music. I love that type of sound but what's driving me nuts is that I cannot reproduce that bright funky tone on my own bass.. even with the new swing strings I bought. Don't get me wrong.. they are A LOT better than the ones I got with the bass but the tone seems a bit 'muddy' compared to the ones on the youtube vids . I currently have Rotosound 40 60 80 100 roundwound Swing Strings. Apart from buying a new bass.. I would just like to know how I can alter the sound. I've put the tone up full, but no joy. Do I need different strings.. Elixir, Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, blah blah. What about Jazz pickups? Will that alter the sound by much. Any help is much appreciated!! Buy a stingray dude. Problem solved Paul.
7. Likewise so John scofield in Glasgow with those dudes. DC I have seen about 20 times, playing with John mclaughin, mike stern, etc, etc. He is the man

 9.
Love it - Who is that on bass? I should add that I'm watching this on iPhone and the vid is very blurry, lol. I thought it was Stanley Clarke on the original album but that doesn't sound like him to me (and I've never seen Stan the Man on a P?).
It is the godlike genius of Byron Miller. Sideman with Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock and George Duke for decades
 10. Cheers for this. Been curious about differences between pre-EB and EB 2EQ as considering selling my '78 to buy a 2EQ EB ray to get lighter body and trussrod wheel

 17. The 2eq boards are unchanged under EB. I think John East had a 76 as reference. The early pre-ebs, approx 76 to 78 had differing circuits. Leo was still experimenting perhaps. How different I don't know. Never been able to do a test of my 78 against an older 2eq
 18. Hi, got a 87 ray 3eq, had since new. Played a few times againt recent examples. Not a lot of difference. other than change in bridge, comp nut and oil finished necks, the principal difference is fingerboard radius. My 87 and 78 are the same. Newer stingrays have flatter fingerboards, less curved. Pickups are also flat. No raised poles. Meaning any G volume problems are probably easier to fix.
 19.
Yes lets hear all about it,There are a few clean pre EB's about and Im lucky to have one of them, Although one with loads of mojo does appeal to me too. Im going to have a play about with pup heights and stuff with mine and a full fettle from the EBS_Freak when we get time. I will put a post up with our findings after.Im wondering if lowering the E end rather than trying to bring the G too close is the answer as mine has a lot more output than my EB so I have some to spare then pump the amp up to suit.
That is too true. With the older pre-EBs, the magnets were huge. The problem is not low volume on G but rather excessive volume from the E. Thus on my '78, the pickup is lowered on E side as far as can go. In addition Martin at the Gallery tapped the E string magnet further inside the pickup cover. String volume balance is perfect.
 20. Looks really good. If you buy it, you need extra long strings (or use Ernie Balls standard) due to string thru' body bridge. Currently its strings are too short. Check the E in photo
 21. I agree its not the pole and string alignment. I have 2 rays, a '78 which is aligned dead on the G center but then off on the E, and a 1987 which is other way round. On both, I have raised the G end of the pick up and also use heaver G string gauge (45) with a 100 on E. Volume balance is perfect. The problem causing the low G is the large size of the magnets, and in particular their depth. Pre-EBs are generally worse (imo) as the magnets were deeper in the early production years.
 22. Bargain basement price drop, now £10 each (including UK postage). One of them cost me over £30, two months ago. 'Top quality stuff........at prices you can afford' I'm practically giving them away people !!
 23. I have two 5m speakon speaker cables for sale. One by Ernie Ball, the other by Citronic. Both new, only one has been used. Excellent as new condition. Both work perfectly. £15 incl postage for each.
