obi - A very nice pair, sir!! Is the one on the right a Cherry 'burst? The see-thru guard shows it off nicely too. Cheers. I think its either Honeyburst or Autumn Burst. Very orange & yellow in the flesh. Sound Control had a 5-6 Stingrays when I bought it 20 years ago or so. It had the best paint job. bass5 - Ok, did it this time. Actually, it didn't take too long after all. The 'other porn' served to fill the time... The vid is nicely done too and your basses look truly wunnerful! So what do you think of the 25th Anniversary? And who's the music you used for the vid? (Carlton? Ritenour? Stern? etc.)

I think 2eq is better in the low end. Definitely I am gonna buy a classic. My fretless that is 2 eq has the best sound that a stingray can get. I think the 3 band eq is good in my HH stingray that can play everything the pickup make the difference tonal variations and sounds from the HH model. I don’t know the graphite neck should affect the tone. Overall 2 eq is better but i think you need more ajustments to get the right tone with the 3eq.
Your last comment is spot on. With 2EQ its plug'in & play. Cuts through instantly at any control setting. With 3EQ you've got to fiddle with the mids, and sound is always at bit more abrasive. Though I'm happy with both. Cue photo excuse....

Lazarus thread here.... Rehearsing with 2 bands over last 2 months. One with gtr, keys & drms and other with gtr x 2, keys & drums. Both similar, mostly classic rock. Been switching been two Stingrays; a 2EQ and 3EQ to check the difference. Amps set flat. Same strings. With 2EQ, instant cut through. Bass control at 40% - 75% . Treble close to zero. With a 3EQ, if all set at centre detente, sound is lost. Reproducing 2EQ settings (on bass & treble) with mid at centre....still sound is lost. Becomes too bassy and lacks definition. Need to use mid boost to get heard but sound is overly harse imo. Conclusion, 2EQ wins.

Hi anyone got this tab? Got to learn a pile of songs. Difficult to hear the bass, too low in mix.

These bands appeared around the same time in the mid 80s or so and were all kind of early pioneers of funk metal punk combos with Bad Brains possibly the first in this genre. RHCP really exploded on scene in '91 with BSSM leaving the other bands well behind. Is it because their songs were 'better' or is there another reason ?

Diggin' through my old records, picking up Trouble Funk and Chuck Brown. I saw TF live in London in '86. Best live gig I've ever been to. Band were tighter than a gnat's chuff. Saw Chuck in '93 in Paris Anyhow, here's the precursor to the go go sound, Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers, 'Ashley's Roachclip.'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfymVPOdMwk Sampled to death, go to 3.28. How many times has this been used ? Bustin' Loose......top funkin album..... Check the dreads in the vid. This is 1978, before Stevie and Rick James caught on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoUVPXxlvmY Chuck again with 'We need some Money' from the film 'Good to Go. Sadly unavailable on DVD. Not sure if this guy gets enough recognition. Amazing player with the band Slave. Check 'Feel my love' , one of the best examples of his signature sound; big growling rasping sound punctuated with slides, double stops and tasty fills. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1X4C0sg8hM Also 'Watching You': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeZeAcuIkgk...PL&index=17 sampled by Snoop on 2 occasions no less ! Check Slave's 3 albums with Steve Arrington on drums & vocals for more great stuff

I'll take your Mary Jane Girls and raise you with Keni Burke 'Risin' to the Top'. Immense track. Ripped off by the aforesaid MJG.

Derek Forbes (Simple Minds) - The Interview
obi 2 kenobi replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
I'm impressed. Cool guy. - Why were his basslines mixed so quietly on Sparkle in the Rain. - How does he feel about the 'Minds now - Which track is he most proud of, out of all his recordings (Minds, Propaganda, etc) - Does he still have his Alembic Spoiler - Does Kenny Hyslop ever shut up -
Most definitely Paul Jackson.....very recognisable style

Barry White - It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me
obi 2 kenobi replied to 62P-Bass's topic in General Discussion
Hi all, Does anyone know who played bass on Barry White's It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me? I've looked online but can't find it anywhere. It's from the album Barry White Sings for Someone You Love. Thanks, Andrew P.S. If you haven't checked it out, it's a damn funky track. Robbie Williams based Rock DJ on it, but don't let that put you off...
Could be Nathan East. He played uncredited on some 70s Barry White albums -
Effect on through body stringing on string tension
obi 2 kenobi replied to GreeneKing's topic in General Discussion
Adding my 2p.... Got 2 stingrays, a thru-body and top load. Soundwise, no real difference. Feel, however is very different. Thru body with same strings are noticably tighter, strings have less 'slack', and less freedom of movement. Switching from bass to the other, difference is very apparent. So much so, that if I use one bass for long period (e.g. weeks) and then change to other, the 'new one' feels difficult to play. Consequently, now use different strings. High tension La Bella Slappers in top load and EB Slinkies in thru-body to even them out. -
Kim Clarke is amazing. Check out Defunkt's Thermonuclear Sweat and In America. Saw them live a few times in late 80s / early 90s. Note that Defunkt and Meshell sometimes use the same pool of musicians, e.g. Ronnie Drayton, etc

midnight love affair by George Benson. Its a classic. Either Louis Johnson or Abe Laboriel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byKi5DcNCzw Edit : Its Abe
When I bought it in '84 it had the original body, you can see it here, ahem: Oh God, look at me; eighties style Erazerhead haircut, ironic Rockabilly jacket, heroes on the wall - Beefheart, Stravinsky, Wilhelm Reich, bits of my quirky pottery...... and my Wal bass. I had the new Fender body made in '94. I remember it cost me £200 which I thought was an absolute bargain - even after trading in the old body to the workshop. In fact I had several changes made to it over the 10 years; neck completely re-shaped (it's thinner than a Jazz), fretlines added and numerous setups and they never overcharged.
Almost the same outfit when I saw Stump in Glasgow back in '88. Can't remember the venue, maybe Nitemove (now Victoria's) in Sauchiehall St
