2.
Hi, Yeah, I will get some photos and e-mail you with them. Really looking for a quick sale as im off to greece for 3 weeks on Monday. Where are you based?
Hi, based in London
3. I'm interested. Do you have any photos of the back (body & neck) ?
4.
Thanks for your comments guys. Chris keeps a very low profile these days and I have an interest in bass guitar design myself. So this was a very rare opportunity to get to know a lutheir who makes some of the most widely regarded jazz variant instruments on the planet and to try and gain an insight into what makes his instruments different to similar models out there. I've already visited Roger Sadowsky's workshop too but that was about 16 years ago and I didn't have a camera or the understanding to make the most of my visit back then. If I do make any other visits in the future, I'll definitely post them up here.
Thank you CK for the details. Do you know if it is possible to order a bass or if he has basses for sale in his workshop ? Funnily enough I was in Copenhagen 2 weeks. Cheers
5. He was also a Warwick user. When I saw him w/TTD In 87 at Glasgow Barrowland, he played a pink Warwick most of the nite - great gig btw. Later did he not switch to Musicman Cutlass ?
6.
OOOFFFF - Er no mate, gotta disagree with you there, from Freaky Stylee to Blood Sugar are all top IMO. Then it all started going terribly wrong, they never got back to the greatness of Blood Sugar, not even close in fact
too true. They peaked with Freaky Stylee / Mothers Milk / Blood Sugar and then fell off a cliff into mediocre MOR. At least I was lucky enough to see them live during their greatness.
7. Is there a dealer in the UK ?
8. My wife mentioned this to me yesterday. Anyhow, being French she's spends time at the French institute in Kensington where Hadrien is playing live with his band in the brasserie on June 4 for a free gig. Its pretty small. Must be 100 max capacity. I won't be around then but if anyone goes, let me know what it was like. Cheers, K
9. Bought Mark's Ken Smith BSR 5 string. Perfect gent. Smooth 'n easy transaction. Cheers
10.
16.5 mm really fast and nice neck to play ;-) [/quote Thanks, are you sure.........looks a bit wider, measured from center of string to center.
11. Hi, what is the exact string spacing at the bridge (in mm) ? Cheers
12. Hope everything works out for you. PS : to save on carriage, you could always leave some of your gear (specifically the Alembic or Pedulla) at Obi's shack pending your return
13. Hi, does anyone have any experience of Pedulla MVP basses ? I have never tried one. Manson's has a second hand 5 string on sale for £1400. Anyone know if price is reasonable ?
14. Great looking bass. What is the string spacing and where are you based ?
15. I'm considering a Metro Modern 5. Does anyone know what the string spacing is on Metro 5 string basses ?
16. The MM5 looks ace. Love the Westones. Always wanted to get a Thunder III when I first started playing
17. Interesting thread. I started off with 70s Precision back in the early 80s, moving to a JV Precision (and also a Jazz) and then to a Stingray (which I still have) I found Precisions to have a woolly imprecise sound which Stingrays do not (IMO). Got both a 2EQ and 3EQ. The 2EQ is a different beast, and has a fuller bottom end. An old thread on the dudepit explained the difference in detail. Both cut through live though you may need to fiddle with the 3EQ. On a 2EQ, boost bass to half or 3/4, keep treble low, play where a precision pick up would be placed and bob's your uncle. Alexclaber defined the various sounds of a Stingray, Jazz and Precision pretty accurately. Its a question of taste. Each to their own.
18.
tuesday and its a bit cloudy any interest
Could be...how much and where are you based ?
19. Steve is a top bloke. Sold him the Status neck last year. Great bass btw, the early finishes from late 80s rays stand out, esp teal and blueburst
20. 'come on come on hurry up harry come on we're going down the pub'
21.
Excellent ... Thanks What's that first tune called? The one where Marcus starts singing "if you want me ..." with the circular pusing bass line?
Sly Stone tune 'If you want me to stay'
22. http://www.arte.tv/fr/Echappees-culturelle...te/2420438.html Hi, I posted some links to Pino live w/Jan Gabarek, Dominic Miller and other a few weeks ago, taken from the French TV music show 'One shot not' presented by the great Manu Katché. New series starts soon. Here links to Marcus rehearsals from the same show.
23. Hi, I own a pre-EB (1978) and an EB (1987). Difficult to compare the two as the EB is 3EQ. That aside as people say there are good and bad ones from both eras out there. The EB rays are consistent, less likely to find a dog. A good pre-EB with the extra weight (from my experience pre EBs are significantly heavier than EBs), string thru' body (which gives a tighter feel compared to same strings on a standard bridge) and 2eq sounds and feels great. Personally you can't match it.
