1. Thanks for all the replies. A bit more info. for you the Jazz bass is fitted with a MMC active TB cct. the pickups are the originals. The TE pre-amp is the GP12 feeding into an Ashdown Mark King head (via the return skt).So I'm just using the power amp inside not its pre-amp. MarkBass 2 10 and a Hartke 4 10 Traveller Cab. Even with new strings (Elites) the bass on the E always sounds a bit dull I was wondering if a Baddass bridge might make a difference. The neck is Maple fretboard so should be bright enough. The closest sound to what I would like would be from this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47PYoNEd4tk Although it's a MM and modified there are lots of others out there getting this tone with other basses. Perhaps it's me.
2. Is there a pedal/limiter/compressor/ heavy gauge strings etc. that is giving the "tone" that seems prevalent to this style of playing. I've tried scooping the mids on my 70's Jazz Bass on the guitar and amp (Trace Elliot Pre amp) but I can never seem to get that clean sparkle of the tops and that "sucking" sound. Any advice appreciated.
3. Hi Anyone know who the Bass player is on Strictly Come Dancing. Allways seems to have a lovely "growl" down low and a nice solid tone. So who and whats the gear Cheers Peter

5. My Nightingale 4 str. has the same body shape but is active. Bernies GB Rumour series also have this very distinct body shape. You will certainly enjoy.
6. Hi Following the thread of "useless at slapping" I also find it a fascinating technique (if not overdone). I've tried most of the books and some vids. but I'm still pretty @@@@. Listening to MarloweDK on youtube and others they all seem to get this fabulous "tone" I've tried all "scooped" settings on various amps but still unable to get that "tone". Are they using some sort of pedal to enhance the tone ie: phaser or flanger etc. Guitars used are 1970+ Fender USA jazz/GB 5 Spitfire and 4 str. Nightingale.Amps Trace 12 preamp/Ashdown Mark King and Hartke 5000. All these basses and amps are capable so perhaps it's me. Cheers
