1. Hi Walt, I'll give you 380GBP if you can include postage to The Netherlands. Phil.
2. Is this a discontinued model, I can't seem to find it on th Barefaced website ? What are the specs ? And last but not least, would you be willing to post to The Netherlands ? Question BUMP!
3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
4. Slap Bass; Ahh, music to my ears! I may not win this one!
5.
Sure, he did all the mad stuff with a touch of panache, but ask him to hold down a beat and his timing wasn't exactly strict.
If you want strict timing get a drum machine. Music is feel.
6. Oh, and poorly might I add. Just haven't got the technique. Haven't paid enough attention and time to slap I'm afraid. But it's nice to blow off steam with a bit of agressive slap. That said, I do prefer the bass vids with the more subtle techniques.
7. I think it just feels good to SLAP!
8. I use only the pup cover. I used to rest my thumb on the pup, now I rest it on the pup cover and it's no problem. The pup cover also helps with my sloppy slap technique, I rest my hand on it sometimes. I now pluck nearer to the bridge so I'm wary of fitting the bridge cover.
9.
My experience is that a 35" neck is more difficult if you don't have a good technique. You shouldn't be stretching for the notes; you should be positioning your hand and fingers so that you easily reach the notes. DB players and their 42" scale don't stretch like that! Some people think that 34" is OK and others think that 35" is better, let your ears judge, but longer bass strings do make a better note. That's why pianos and harps have the string lengths they do. I'm not getting into an argument as to whether that makes a difference in rock and roll or not. Just don't let 35" scare you. The difference between 34" and 35" at the 5th fret is 13.29mm or approx 1/2". Is that really worth worrying about?
I only have one issue when changing from 34 inch Fender Jazz to a 35 inch Yamaha TRB5 and it's not the length of the fretboard/fret spacings, it's the width of the fretboard from B to G. It requires me to pay attention with my right-hand technique. The difference in string spacing is only a mm but it's enough imo.
10. I'd definitely follow the advice of those suggesting you first buy a cheaper 5 string before commiting to a boutique model. More often than not there's a Yamaha TRB 5'er for sale on here. They usually go for around 500GBP. I have one of these and I must say they (Yamaha) are very, very, under rated instruments. They are 35 inch scale. Good luck.
11.
i've just checked and i have some pictures if you need them! I cleaned all the valve bases etc. so it doesn't really need doing but its good practice, i normally use a non lubricated version of wd40 ie. a switch cleaner. Spray it in the base and pull the valve in and out a few times to clean all the dirt off.
It would be great to see a few photos if it isn't too much trouble.
12.
No need to shunt the smoothing caps - unless the amp is faulty they'll be cleared down when the power is switched off. To clean the insides out I just use a 1" paintbrush and a vacuum cleaner hose. Layout any parts you remove in seperate piles and in a logical order - so casing screws go in one pile, pcb mounting screws in another and so on. A human has assembled the unit on a production line so if something is difficult to get out don't be tempted to force it - you're taking it apart wrong if you need to crowbar stuff out. Take a look at the connection method your switch is using and make sure the connection method you use on the replacement is as good as the original method. Draw a little diagram of which wires go to which terminals on the switch before you take it out - use little bits of numbered tape if the wires are all the same colour. Once you've finished, check you've connected it all up correctly, go grab a coffee and then check again before replacing the casing and switching it on.
I'm replacing the original switch with the exact same switch from BritishAudio but I'll take a photo of the connections with my phone before beginning. My memory is terrible with that sort of thing.
13.
Haha it's a big pcb, with a bit of PTP on the octal bases. Not sure i got any pictures of your amp. All the essentially stuff had been done when i had it apart at mr chambos. Few things i'd always recomend doing though, is give the valve bases a clean, clean the pots while its open and clean all the jacks.
Hi Michael, You of course, know what it looks like. I'm very happy with the amp by the way. What do you suggest using to clean the valve bases pots and such like.
14. Cheers Mr.Fox, I'll certainly post the guts pictures and I've got a multimeter to check the capacitors before I start. Can't wait to see what it looks like inside there.
15. I'll be replacing a broken Standby/On switch on my Trace V6 next week and was thinking whilst I'm in there I could clean it up and take some photos. Are there any Do's and Don't's that I should be aware of like;-Bleed the capacitors first or you might DIE ? Or should I just let an expert do it?
16.
Is the general opinion that stainless steel is brighter and lasts longer?
I think so yeah, Nickel are a warmer in sound.
17. Something can't be right. The same order costs 144 euros at StringBusters and 90 euros at Juststrings.
18. Just ordered from JustStrings.com DR Handmade-Black Coated 5string 22Euro LaBella Hard Rockin' 5string 27Euro Dr HighBeam 4string 15Euro Elixir NanoWeb 4string 25Euro I'm gonna string the 5 with DR Black and the 4 with Elixir NanoWeb and see how they last.
19. I've used mainly Rotosound, because that's all the shop stocks but it is time for a change. We play mainly rock. I changed my strings once every 6 weeks so I was thinking coated strings should last me 3 months or so. But these coated strings can be expensive (Elixir = 50 Euro). If you get a bad set can you return them or are you expected to just take it on the chin. If I forked out 50 Euro for a set and got sub-standard there would be tears.
20. I had ONE bass for 20yrs, until last summer. I imported a mij Jazz. Now I'm a two bass guy. Yeahhh. I do have 4 guitars however; but they're all cheapo stuff. There are some loonies on here that could start a bass retail centre
21. I posted a thread "Lightweight = Lightweight souund", and I got slated. I just took it on the chin. Whatever was written, I love ya basses. I'd have to save for a decade to get those babies. If your playin's as good as ya collection, you're a lot better than me. How about a close-up of the natural grain on the left, I LIKE HER A LOT.
22.
That's not nice gub, whoever you are, let me teach you a lesson of life, and that is that you don't overstep the mark, with that sort of jokes with people you don't know, those kind of jokes "might" be acceptable between known friends, but definatey not between strangers. So no, I haven't got ocd and your humour is not appreciated and well out of order.
Although I actually agree with you GW, I would have been less... I'm struggling for the word.
