1. No. The V8 has a DI on the back, the V6 doesn't.
2. Even though it all seems pretty obvious, I just wanted to be sure ;-)
3.
I've never heard of using a balanced XLR out to connect to a speaker cabinet. Are sure that isn't the D.I. out? I could be wrong of course :/
The DI is on the front. This is on the rear panel indicated with the word speaker ;-)
4. My trace V6 has XLR and Jack options to connect it to the speaker. The speaker (EBS Classic Line 4x10) has Neutrik Speakon or a Jack option. I already have a Jack Neutric Speakon cable, am I ok to connect the Jack side of the cable to the head and the Neutrik speakon side to my cabinet? Or am I about to destroy a toy? What do you guys use - Jack-Jack. Jack-Speakon. Xlr-Jack or Xlr-speakon. So many options, are they all acceptable? I've only ever had combos so this all new to me! Phil.
5. Feedback ; if you please ! Thank you very much kind Sir !
6. Just bought an EBS 4x10 Classic Line from Dunk. Exellent condition at a good price. Friendly and ammicable, a top bloke. Cheers Uncle Dunk. P.S. We're not related, Uncle Dunk is a translation of his username. Phil.

8. Wow! WD40 works incredibly good. Removed sticky stuff in one go. They should advertise this stuff on television, in the middle of the night. Great stuff.
9. I used cheap duct tape to tape down a few cables at our last gig. ;-( When removing the tape I only pulled of half of it, it left the glue all over the cables. A google search revealed this - 1,First, spray WD40 into an old rag. 2 ,Wipe the sticky area with the rag until the sticky residue comes off. 3 ,If the residue does not come off right away, just apply more WD40 to the rag and continue. Would the WD40 be harmful to the cable ? or do you guys have any miracle cures ? Phil.
10.
I thank fussy people like you who leave the mildly blemished bargains for people like me
My pleasure!
11. Before our last gig I had a bit of a discussion with one of our guitarists. I wanted the stage position next to the keys with the guitars together on the otherside. He wanted one guitar left and 1 right. We're a 6 piece singer drums bass keys guit 1 and guit 2. What do most bands with 2 guits do with their set-up? Where do you stand? Phil.
12. Every now and then when surfing for secondhand goods I come across Bass guitars at reasonable prices but I'm put off by blemishes. If there's a ding on the headstock or a scratch or chip on the body I'm just not interested, but I seem to have accepted Bucklerash. Maybe this is because my own instruments are pristine except for this one ailment. Bucklerash - yes The rest - no thanks.
13.
Like this? Or this?
Plenty of material to work with, Im sure you could come up with a mighty cab with that stuff
14.
Second hand is often difficult, but the first thing is to check feedback if available. As for the cabs themselves, you need to be able drive it pretty hard and listen for what the speakers do. The visual stuff is easy to work out so I be thinking if the condition was very good and looked loked after, then that could apply to the way the seler has looked after it in every respect. But this is a rsik
I've seen good quality photo's on the net and it looks very tidy indeed. It's about an hrs drive their rehearsal room. I don't anticipate any probs, but you never know. It's 275 euro for aEBS Classic Line 4x10.With cover and coasters. Seems like a good deal.
15. Hi guys, I'm changing from Markbass combo to a seperate head and cabinet. My head is still in the post and I'm going to pick-up the cab on Wednesday. I've done a search but can't find anything on what to look for when checking out a 2dhand cab. I'll be using the sellers head to test the 4x10 cab(with tweeter). Other than removing the grill to check the drivers what else should I be doing? Thank you in advance.
16.
Im loving some of Paul Turners bass lines on the new Jamiroquai album, particularly "she's a fast persuader". 17.
Many people will do this and many bands will only be using a small vocal PA but if we are clear here that this thread relates to a decent size venue with a house PA or you are a band with your own setting up in venues of that size then most people and the engineer will want you in the PA mix so as he/she can control all the levels. Most the sound guys on here have said the best sound they have got for bands is with a clean DI only including any pedals rather than any valve 'colour' at all.
Our gigs fluctuate somewhere between 200 people pub with pretty poor PA (would rather let amp do the work) and 400/500 club with good PA (would really like to mic the valvyness, but you've convinced me that the sound guy doesn't really want to do this).
18. Are there any who favour just playing through the amp unmic'ed. The quality of my amp/cab is better than most PA's we come across.
19.
The valves will colour the sound in a valve pre. With the exception of a 'tuner out' all of the outputs will be 'valve coloured'. What you won't get with valve pre's (DI outs etc...) is the output transformer working its mojo on your sound - you'll need to mic up for this.
So it's either - don't DI, and just use the amp or - DI and mic. We have sure sm ?? (the one with the blue ring around it) not sure of the number 57 or 58 I think. These are all-rounders and should be up to mic'ing my cab, or so I think.
20.
Some of these articles may help: http://barefacedbass.com/bgm-columns.htm The one about strings and harmonics is probably the key one!
Nice link AlexC, That clears things up nicely, now i'm not too worried about choosing a cab with a frequency response above40Hz. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the BassChatters, you guys are great. Before coming on here around a year ago I knew nearly nothing regarding the technical side of music, I could play but that was about it. Thanks to Basschat I'm becoming the band member that gets asked his opinion on cab placement and how to clean-up the sound during sound checks etc. And basically they're just asking you guys 'cause that's where the info comes from. CHEERS, Phil.
21. Hi lads, I read this in the pinned 'Solid state versus Valve' thread, 'Spend as much as you can, then a bit more. High end bass gear seems to be mosfet these days, Epifani, Markbass, EA, Eden etc. High end hi-fi got rid of valves years ago, until you get to the stupidly expensive stuff. Even if you get a wonderful valve amp you will always Di through a valveless PA system. No one expects to use valves in a PA system do they? ' Does this mean that by Di'ing a valve amp your bass signal gets sent to mixing before the tubes can fully colour the sound? Making mic'ing your valve amp more or less essential if you want t o retain its character. I'll be changing from my Markbass to Trace valve jobbie shortly and was just wondering. Phil.
22. I've recently been looking around far a 4x10 4 0hm cab and noticed that some of them have a frequency response of 40 or 50 Hz to around 18 or 20 KHz. The B on my 5 string bass is about 30 Hz. If the cab is 40 Hz and my bass 30 Hz, it seems to me that the cab isn't reproducing all that the bass gives out. I'm sure the tech boffins have done their homework. I just don't understand it !!!! This happens more than I'd like to admit Any boffins around ? Phil.
23.
Well the problem is and Im not for a minute suggesting you personnaly is that you get a perfectly worded message declaring that they are in Portugal (or wherever) asking if its ok to bid, You tell them thats fine and warn them that the P&P will obviously be more (which often involves 2 visits to the post office once just to find out the cost then send an updated invoice). Once its all sorted you then get the jibberish email about a friend who owes them money in the UK Blah Blah Blah, I have had it so many times I need to be certain they are genuine, Many have been and I have dealt with them fine but you can see where the frustration our end comes from surely?
The Ebay seller stated 'ships worldwide' End of thread!!! ;-)
24.
I assume the seller asked for £600 for it, dunno if that's the case. Original listing the OP won: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/trace-elliot-v6-all-...8#ht_500wt_1156 Relisted item: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/trace-elliot-v6-all-...8#ht_500wt_1156 Don't see why really, it sold for what people were willing to pay for it. That's the nature of eBay (and all auctions), sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Unless there's other mitigating circumstances the seller should have honoured the contract he agreed to in the first place.
You obviously know how Evilbay works you hit the nail on the head Lemmy.
