1.
More likely something in the preamp has got blown up. The voltage level from the speaker out will most likely be too high for the input op amp. I think it's highly unlikely the output transistors will be blown as it would represent a high impedance load. This could be good news, as op amp cost peanuts. Try putting a line level signal into the effects return socket. See if the power amp section is working at least.
Good call
2. Good luck with it - let us know how you get on
3. See the big silver metal fins which look like the back of a radiator (that's essentially what they are!), the output transistors are the little black components attached to them and the PCB
4. sh*te, I suspect one of the output transistors has gone wonky. The only time I've blown an output tranny I couldn't tell just by looking at it ... It'll need a tech. Ashdown are very very good to deal with on these sorts of things though (I know because they're the ones who fixed my blown-up GK amp haha!)
5. 35kg heavy It's the ABM preamp so basically an SS front end but with the valve for some drive. A true behemoth of tone and power and awesomeness
6. So you plugged the speaker output into the line output? (This will be a bad thing). Or you hooked the amp up to your recording device via the line out and didn't have a speaker load present? (This shouldn't be an issue).

8. Honestly the best bass amp I've ever used, just damn heavy! And Phil is a top chap too
9. Withdrawn
10. They're so BLUE!
11. The Mb Fusion has valves in it, and that's the reason the OP wants to change... Good call though, one of the best Class D amps I've ever used
12.
The mesa does not have a valve in the preamp. Its solid state.
Fair enough, my memory is failing me
13.
Is that the photos or the player Merton? I've never let my lack of ability stand in the way of acquiring ACGs. I still want to find a way to try out your ACG 'P' at some point. Lovely looking bass there Kev
both Yeah we will find a way for you to have a play with my P... It's a wicked bass, so simple but so effective. And Kev, I too love that Finn you have there. A stunner which provided a little inspiration for my 5

15.
What is it about the streamliner your trying to improve on ?.
Ditto this question; also thought the Mesa Boogie was similar to the Streamliner in that it has valve preamp and Class D power amp so not really a massive difference other than for the sake of it? Edit - just read your reply! Preamp valve failure is such a rarity as to not be worth worrying about. No more or less likely than a power capacitor failure for example.
16.
I guess a lot of it is to do with the fact that a lot of people get a lot of joy out of buying different instruments, even if the latest j bass is just a take on the same old bass we all know. This bass thing we do, is not all about the playing for some people. I've met countless players who can't play for toffee but have the most immense collection of instruments... and you know what, I'm not one of these guys that subscribes to the thoughts of "nice basses deserved to be played by great players" because these basses can bring a lot of joy to some who just like them hanging on the wall. There's enough people that buy super cars that can't drive the cars to anywhere near their potential - or desire to - but like to have something in their garage which represents the pinnacle of engineering and is something nice to own. In reality, people do get caught up in pickups and their positioning, preamps, neck profiles etc etc... but hey, people get different pleasures out of the bass. Some by playing, some the social aspect of being in a band for example... and I guess having a fleet of super basses is achievable for more than a garage full of super cars. I think Scott is targeting the people who think that buying the latest bass will somehow lead to improving your playing. Hey, it may do, or may not... but you have to have a reason for getting a purchase past your other half right? I don't really think anybody really subscribes to the thinking that a bass can replace practice... but there's so many different reasons for buying a bass... and the playing of it may actually be pretty low down on the list of reasons.
Excellent post
17. Sad news, weirdly thought just two days so that he or a Rolling Stone would probably be next after Lemmy
18. Ashdown BTA200 into two Barefaced Super Compacts. Sold the BTA as it was too big and heavy for my puny human arms, sold the SCs to raise money for my wedding (2 weeks to go, eek!) and house move. That said I'd get more SCs in a heartbeat if I had the money; the BTA would be replaced with an ABM500/600 or even the CTM100 I currently have
19. There was at least one generation of Trace Elliots which did this too.
20. Kevin Dean is currently selling a pair, I'm sure he'll be along soon! If I had the money I'd probably have bought them by now
21. That's a flippin bargain, always fancied one of these, just coz...
22. OK so the nut appears to be 39mm or 40mm width. Some pictures of the various little dings and blemishes you'd expect form a working bass - some are hard to tell apart from the light reflections so please ask if unsure! OK that's just a cool shot This is the main ding around the jack socket The other side of the jack socket and the rest of the main ding A tiny ding on the back side of the body, bridge end Tiny scratch just above the bridge Blemish on top horn Some marks on the lower horn The tiny mark on the right of this pic is a knock on the headstock Dings on the back of the lower horn
23. Stunning
24. Mike - see here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/276146-aer-amp-one-electric-bass-amp/page__view__getnewpost Hooray!
25. I have no idea actually! It's a standard Status jazz bass neck which feels very similar to a Fender Jazz at the nut. I'll measure it when I get home tomorrow, and add more pictures as promised. Paul - cheers for the kind words
