I was always struggling with tone with my PBass played fingerstyle and just felt I didn’t have “ that sound” I had in the past and it’s obviously down to the Ray as the improvement in clarity with the active EQ just works better for me. Pickup placement too feels more comfortable. I do love a PBass for it’s simplicity of great sounds but for me the Stingray takes it further

I just find the clarity and depth fingerstyle better and the neck is very PBass like in feel

About 20yrs ago I was regularly gigging with a USA Musicman Stingray bass and Ampeg rig Sold it all off when the band folded and I had a ten year break from playing bass ( everything sold ) I returned and started playing Fender PBass and I thought this was my perfect bass however I’ve discovered that I’m really still a Stingray guy and I’ve found a secondhand USA Stingray in Blue Pearl virtually the same as my original bass !! I’m converted back to playing a Ray Im already selling my Vintera II on here and my American Performer will soon be listed too Picture of incoming bass and 20yrs ago gigging my Ray with Ampeg 610 and SVT CL head !

Good questions ! In fact it’s the fact that the stock Ernie Ball 45/100 sound so good and I thought it would have 45-105 fitted ! Just curious what other Ray34 users were using so not unhappy although I’ve read EB strings lose their zing quickly ?

Mine is new ( also from the last sell off batch ) and it doesn’t flash red Nor did one I had about 3yrs ago I wouldn’t worry as it’s not even stated in the manual it has one !!

He’s blown a fuse 😂

I was told that the drive, EQ etc all effect the input signal and often you need to cut the input level if boosting drive of EQ This was from Dave Green himself and I think there are various ways to do it but keeping a healthy input signal without it being in the red too much is key

PMT have one in stock for a decent price under your budget

My new RM800 has a a few seconds before becoming active There are no tubes in the RM so I guess it’s by design or waiting for the fan to start perhaps hence why older units are taking longer ?

How about a Sterling Stingray SR5 ?

I nearly purchased the ST cab but the manufacturing time and the cost at the time made me re-think. The LFsys Monaco came my way ( lovely cab ) and for larger stuff Vanderkley 212 cab ( very nice )

It’s swamp ash so I think that’s probably about right. I should be ok as my other Ray is 10lbs and I’m ok with that for several hours !

A bit of both I guess, sometimes we play 2.5hrs but definitely more than 2hrs
-
We play around 3hrs total for typical pub gigs .. 9-12 o’clock or 8-11am 5 mins break usually

One of the benefits of these cabs ( I have the Monaco ) is the dispersion of sound and how well you can hear the cab even though it’s a smaller cab Very impressive cabs

Any owners of the Ray34 advise which strings they are using ? The spec says EB Slinky 45-100 ? Would 45-105 or 50-105 be a good choice perhaps ? Unlike my older Ray34 with stock strings the G isn’t noticeably weak ! Only looking at Nickel Plated Rounds

The main bass EQ on the Puma and Eich is 30hz which works very well
