Beautiful guitar I would leave 10’s on it for sure as I feel it’s the perfect match for a Les Paul

Having started this topic some time back I thought I would offer my thoughts on a recent purchase RM500 EVO III from fellow basschatter Ander on here. The EVO III is a lovely improvement I feel, looks better, more quality and feature loaded. Im using it with my MarkBass MB58R cabs which it matches very well. The compressor is better than previous versions, better than the ABM series too. Drive is ok but nothing special and the SUB feature works very well. Great EQ section and the Shape feature is good. Not whisper quiet fans but acceptable It’s a very nice amp, is it better than my MB LM4 well it’s warmer sounding and different but as good.

Blackstar tried to take on Marshall and several of their guitar amps were / are amazing products so well done Blackstar. Perhaps in time they will become a big name in the bass world. I liken them in reverse to Ashdown, who offer guitar amps but seldom see many users and of course massive success in the bass world. Blackstar guitar amps well received but bass amps less so

That’s was a very good bass player at work, well done TOP TIP thread your guitar lead through your strap then into bass so if you stand on your lead ( we all do ) it won’t pull hard on the cable and bass jack socket 😉😄

Anyone stacking their MB58R 102 vertically ? Is it stable ? The cab indents in the side suggest side stacking IE 4x10 style square

Anyone using two MarkBass 2x10 cabs stacked and how did they perform ? I have the 102 Energy cab and just ordered a matching cab to sit on top I guess sitting them on top sideways instead of a very tall rig is more sensible ? And safer ? The cabs have indents for the feet to sit with cab on its side

I think it’s also a different feel playing through a tube / valve amp

Yep I’ve always preferred most of the bass from backline in small / medium venues

Or sell it and get an additional Monaco 600w cab !! Awesome and a step up from BF cabs in performance so many are discovering!

Are they loud for their rated wattage as the Portaflex were underpowered for sure

I’m the opposite tone with a pick is very much my goal to make it punchy and full sounding / a cross of finger fullness and pick drive tone. I can do both methods and prefer to set my amp to sound the best with a pick. Playing rock in a single guitar band requires the bass to be present full and driving

Oh yes of course unless you isolate the amp but I guess he has considered that simple solution.

If I’m right doesn’t a DI from an amp with a fan not pick up any fan noise ? So I would not limit yourself and get something with a decent bit of power such as 500w class D head from Eich, MarkBass, Genzler etc etc

No not too flexible due to the design and the material produces a warmer tone

Yes Magellan amps are quiet and neutral sounding if you want it Build quality is awesome too

I have the MarkBass LM IV and with the newer 58R series lightweight cabs it sounds very transparent Older MarkBass cabs sounded woolly to me or dark perhaps in tone. I’ve had EICH T900 and TE1200 and the LM IV is as good in tone and can go warm / vintage with the old school control

Not easy to source but found some on EBay

I just had these arrive and I’m very pleased how they feel and sound Warm full and punchy is how I would describe them and the little dish recess where your thumb sits ( feels odd at first ) seems to add to the tone as does the Delrin material

Have you tried it in a different electrical socket ? Mains hum perhaps ? Presumably it makes that noise with no input ?
