  1. Looking for folks opinions on the Boss BC1X compressor and settings ? I’ve got one incoming and curious how people rate it
  2. Tried flatwounds and didn’t like them. Roundwounds definitely for me
  3. That’s all I can think it is but I didn’t even need to back off the bass tone pot as I switched to a pick !
  4. So having recently purchased the Fender American Performer PBass I noticed when I switch from fingers to pick the change in tone isn’t too dramatic which is perfect with my rig set up. My other basses seem to have a very different response going from fingers to pick ( Player Series and Vintera ) as much as the pick tone is a very bright version compared to fingers as you would expect The AM Performer less so which must be down to the Pickups and Tone circuit they use ?
  5. I found my CTM100 ok but limited to one range of EQ tweeks The Ampeg V4B is far more useable
  6. Had my first gig with the new bass and it did a grand job Pick or fingers it sounded very nice
  7. I did try the BB434 last week and it was nice but I didn’t care for the neck I assume the 734 has the same neck ?
  8. ^This !! Change your keys as he is holding you back potentially. Thats just being lazy even if he is 68 !
  9. I was tempted as a V4B user but I don’t like the slippery tolex they use ( Same as the Portaflex cabs ) whereas the SVT212AV has the foot wells to keep the head from moving
  10. Yep it’s on an industrial estate ( moved from their old location Cowdray Centre ) now Severalls Estate As you say the stock is mind blowing and if not on display it’s in the back stores.
  11. I would add that business was good or appeared to be at Peach and very busy I think it was brave business move that will irritate the tyre kickers and usual try stuff but less likely to buy. We have all done it, popped in for strings and try a guitar or two with no real intention to buy. The system they run must work as they moved to very large premises which has been set up with a great style and not cheap I would imagine. Maybe this is the way ? Certainly worked for me
  12. They rigged up a Laney Combo which was decent enough to try in a store
  13. I rang them last Saturday and asked for an appointment which they gave me that afternoon. I just said I wished to try various basses and would bring a list of the models showing in stock. They brought them from the warehouse for me to try ( very helpful )
  14. Based in Colchester this store operates on an appointment only system, took me a few attempts to time my visits but this weekend they had a time slot available! The store is amazing laid out to mimic an old western saloon and the vibe here is awesome Stock is very good too, separate rooms to demo and they make you a coffee as well. No feeling of being rushed and a great buying experience Service is absolutely spot on and I would say they are probably the best store I’ve visited and will become my main supplier now based on their service etc If you are near to Essex it’s worth checking them out but get an appointment first !
  15. For my 100w valve head I use the Ampeg SVT212AV cab Single cab does it all and sounds very good ( it’s a little heavy but worth it )
  16. Decided to pay Peach Guitars Colchester a visit ( appointment only ) to try out a couple of Fender Performer Series PBass Firstly a huge thankyou to Peach, amazing service and a lovely experience The bass is absolutely perfect and a nice step up from a Player Series and more choice of sounds which was my aim. Lovely build quality and will stay all stock as it’s that good
  17. What’s people’s opinion of the BB734A bass ? Better than a Fender MIM PBass ? How is the preamp and build quality?
  18. As mentioned already a clean / warm and clear bass tone is sometimes better for metal / rock I tried various pedals but they all seem lost against guitar distortion! I now use a valve amp Ampeg V4B with a TC spark booster up front and it’s perfect
  19. Still using Fender Nickel Plated Roundwounds as preferred brand Good tension and tone I tune down to Eb and they still sound and feel good
  20. Used a pick last night for most of the set rehearsal but I still prefer the fullness tone of fingers and the connected feeling
  21. As a guitarist I played using the standard teardrop shaped pick On bass I find the need for the Triangle style due to the larger string resistance and less pick movement in my fingers Anyone else discovered this ? I also play fingerstyle but the question is best pick shape when picking several songs in a set
  22. Or the Ampeg Opticomp .. superb low cost pedal
