I used an Ampeg V4B 100w tube amp into 2x12 cab for a very loud rock band playing pubs without pa support The amp was never running more than approx 60% its max output I think 50-100w valve is ok but less I think it would be struggling

Yes three 8ohm cabs would result in 2.67ohms load which if you set your amp to that should be fine Each speaker will receive a 1/3 power each and assuming all the same spec. cabs will sound balanced

My concern if using it at gigs is will it get through the gig IE old age reliability! I choose modern new amps so in the main they don’t fail A bit like driving around in a very old neglected car compared to a newer well serviced one ! Granted TE was superb in its day as was old Peavey stuff and old Laney stuff

For the money and superb performance it’s got to be LFSYS Monaco Awesome cabs and sound larger than they look

A point I have discovered and I guess it relates to all genres with cabs is how the cab works with the amp and your style of playing. Ive played Ampeg, Ashdown arguably the two biggest reasonably priced cabs often seen in most stores but in truth they were in the main heavy, flubby or struggling with power handling often resulting in needing additional cabs. Since using a LFSYS Monaco cab and my Vanderkley I now see why better speakers and cab build actually do more for your tone and sound than many amps do. There are exceptions to this but that has been my experience and I think cabs make the world of difference to clarity and punch in a band where backline isn’t using a PA

6m for me bass direct to amp 5-6m seems to be the optimum gigging length for me gives approx 3m on the ground with 1m up to amp head and 1m to bass, I also prefer a right angle jack one end with straight jack the other

I use a Vanderkley 212 cab and Mesa Subway WD800 amp Mostly for rock but I prefer a clean bass tone or a warm clean tone Not keen on drive as I just feel even clean bass sounds good for rock

I’ve ended up with just two near identical to play, sound and look Pbasses That way I can take both, use one or the other or swop at the break etc and they will sound and play the same. I like that concept, get a good bass you really like and then find one more as back up etc Do I need it probably not but handy to have just in case

Yep you need a 4ohm load on the ELF to be useable in a band

Yep I’ve used my old SVT212 AV 4ohm cab with the ELF and it was fine in a very loud rock band !!

I’ve done setups on my own guitars and basses for 20yrs or more after having Martin Booth ( ex Yamaha fame ) set up my PRS and talk me through it ! Its very satisfying and a must have skill if you play a stringed instrument. Very rare a bass arrives set up correctly or to your liking. A good setup can make a good bass a great bass and it’s very rewarding to do it for yourself!
