  1. I’ve owned both amps and both played through the SVT212AV cab CTM100 was nice but took took a bit of fiddling getting the EQ right The Ampeg V4B was better, fitted the cab better, sounded more valve like and easy EQ to get a good sound In my last rock band ( loud ) it was running around 1/2 volume so had more to give but after it warmed up and was pushing a decent volume the sound was the best. CTM 100 nice but V4B awesome and clearly a better amp I feel
  2. Great tone and use of a pick with a PBass 🎸🤟
  3. Yes they are similar sounding amps
  4. I recall I used the contour control to make it less modern sounding. The thing is compared to the ABM600 which has a very warm slightly woolly tone anything else seems too bright at times ! The clarity you are now hearing helps a lot in a band situation
  5. I had the Magellan 800 head and it’s an awesome amp for sure Build quality, quiet fan, EQ that works and mine had drive too but I rarely used it. This and the Eich T900 were amongst my favourite amps for allowing your bass to sound like your bass !
  6. In my time I’ve owned and gigged an Ampeg SVT-CL ( very nice ) Ampeg V4 ( very nice ) Ashdown CTM 100 ( nice but odd EQ ) My last gigging amp ( same rock kind of bands ) were Eich T900 and it was as good sounding and a lot more practical of course. In the band mix I didn’t really hear enough difference to warrant a valve amp but they feel different to play for sure especially when cranked a bit. Other issue is selling them later as it’s a limited market and heavy as hell for shipping !
  7. I think into a 4ohm cab they sound incredible and loud enough for a loud band, A word of warning as being so light they can easily move on top of a cab. Put a rubber mat down on top of cab to save pulling it off or amp walk
  8. I had two of the ABM 210H cabs and they were excellent. Paired very nicely with the ABM600 GLWTS 👍
  9. I don’t think they are flying off the shelf for some reason but if they at least sound as good as a PF500/PF800 etc without the shutdown issues then they will be great amps Since Yamaha purchased them I don’t see a lot of groundbreaking designs and the Venture cabs are so over priced
  10. Around 20yrs ago I spoke with Mr Schroeder ( Joerg ?? ) in the USA and he built me a Bass cab ( cannot remember the model ) and at the time i was gigging with either Ashdown or Ampeg amps It was a very different design with the way two speakers were mounted in the cabinet but it sounded huge for its size. I ended up selling it and using an SVT 610 and SVT-CL amp for the most of the time I think he did well in the USA but not much in Europe as it never made it to the more popular stores
  11. There’s singing and playing and then there’s entertaining and it’s the latter is the must have skill for a frontperson
  12. Year started playing: 1978 Number of basses: 1 ( PBass ) Music theory: 5 Technique: 5 Groove 7 Personally I put more emphasis in fitting my sound to the band / song and less theory and scales etc I think listening is as important as playing IE when not to play !
  13. My MB58R 102 Energy arrived and my first reaction was wow how light it is one hand lift of a 2x10 cabinet is possible ! Its nicely built and more robust than I thought ( some reviews say it’s not tough enough but I disagree it’s robust if you take care of your gear ) Looks very smart too and I like the size of it, narrow, very deep and tall enough. 400w RMS rated which is good for a single cab Patiently waiting for my amp to arrive before I can try it out

    GILLY

Just purchased a MarkBass MB58R 102 Energy cab from GILLY What a decent guy to deal with, transaction was prompt and great ch communication throughout. Cab arrived exactly as described and he added a free Speakon lead too. Highly recommended Basschatter
  15. Great rig at a bargain price
  16. Thank you .. it was a very dry light brown colour on arrival ( built in 2024 ) and looked awful for a new bass. Its looking very nice now and is lovely to play too
  17. Guitar lemon oil and it really needed it ! I think it’s Jim Dunlop lemon oil for guitars Rosewood goes nice and dark if you apply it, let it soak in and then wipe it down it really makes a difference and protects the wood too
  18. It’s arrived and it’s like an old friend coming home ! Needed setting up, action was very high and the Rosewood fretboard was drier than a nuns chuff ! Anyways fretboard done, frets polished and action set and she’s ready to play
  19. Hopefully the bass amp on its own sounds good, I briefly had the Katana 100 guitar combo and got fed up with the very digital sounding tone and adjustment overload ! People rave about them but I’m too old school to faff around making presets on a laptop etc
  20. Totally agree, find the right and best singer you can even if setlist has to change. Our set went from Alanis Morissette to Iron Maiden !! and lots in between
  21. Town called Malice ! Great bass line
  22. I had a couple of EBS heads 750 and 752 Reidmar Awesome amps and although larger and heavier than some they worked really well
  23. We were a successful female fronted covers band ( rock, pop ) and the girl could sing and more importantly put on a visual show IE she was entertaining for sure. When she was leaving us for personal reasons we tried hard to find a lady who could sing rock but we failed. Most had no projection or power or they didn’t sing well ! Due to the comparison that would be clearly made to the awesome outgoing lady we decided to get a guy to replace her. The result was the band changed so much it was a terrible version of what it was. I left ( who formed the band ) then the guitarist left and only the original drummer remains Sad really how bands go from hero to zero very quickly and mostly it’s down to a change of singer especially if you were blessed with a very good front person who had an amazing vocal range and power. She looked good too !!
  24. I will soon be the proud owner of the MB58R 102 Energy instead of the P variant ! 400w rated instead of 300w
