1. used to be every day for several hours a day - lucky if its 20 minutes a week now I use the Sylvester Stallone workout method - concentrated, focussed playing over a short space of time. I think my playing has come on leaps and bounds over the past year with little practice. I'm not bragging. My favourite drummer of all time Buddy Rich never practiced ever.
2.
Plus i dont know anyone personally off this site or any other bass players
So far I've only met 5 members very briefly since joining the site so the chance to have a natter with other members over a ruby and a golden jar is very appealing. I'm also interested in the bass side of it as well. I enjoy alcohol but I'm not an alcoholic - they go to meetings.
3. Fantastic basses - I've had 2 now. I have never been a fan of Jazz basses, never liked their sound but fretless they totally work for me. If I ever went back to using a fretless, this is what I'd have again
4. Sting's '57 single coil P bass Rickenbacker 4003S Yamaha BB5000a Gibson Thunderbird 1976 Bicentennial Chandler Royale 12 string Dean Demonator Reeves Custom 225 That's what I'd have if I had a large pile of money but I'm really happy with what I have. I think the Rick would be first though
5. Yes, they stopped maing them a few years ago. Can't remember how much they were new but the 4 strings go for about £6-700 which is a bit odd as you can usually pick up a second hand neckthrough one for about £800ish
6. I'm on the lookout for a good overdrive, preferrably the VT bass but may consider others
7. couldn't agree more - as soon as you feel yourself tensing up that's when the cramp sets in and you find you can't play Same goes for using a plectrum, keep your fingers relaxed as possible when holding it. If you tense up you'll find it hard to playand if you switch to fingers for the next song your fingers will still be really tired
8. I like things that are a bit different - Jazz basses are 10 a penny If it doesn't look good then forget about it. I'd rather play the biggest pile of sh*te in Europe than something that looked bad Yes, I'm shallow when it comes to basses
9. cos you're selling to me?
10. If you're local or just passing by my rock band is playing at the Brightons Inn in Brightons near Falkirk on Friday 29th October If you're not out and about that night then we're playing Behind the Wall on 19th November
11. Anything repetitive - Sussudio by Phil Collins, Parralel Universe suggested above, The Trooper and Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden etc are all good for building finger speed. Once you've got it - a ramp under the fingers can help increase it further whether it be the pickup raised right up or a piece of wood, plastic, whatever
12. when it gets nearer the time we can work out who's going to car share and split the petrol. I'll probably take the car of meet up with someone or see what happens. Its a nice, easy drive down with some nice scenery and I'm partial to a curry.
13. Separate pedals will usually be better constructed and sound better but I really liked my GT6-B. The sounds were really good but I just found it far too complicated. I've not listened to much Muse but I've seen the clip of his effects setup so a multifx would probably be a simpler way of switching between songs. Plus, instead of trying to remember which effects are used on what songs, you can name each setting with the track name. Another plus, you may find that certain combinations of effects require tweaking of individual sounds which would be much simpler on a multifx instead of having to bend down between songs. I think I may have talked myself into buying another one
14. When I was running my 12 string split between my bass amp and a Trace TVT9 combo, I turned the bass all the way down on the guitar combo just to be on the safe side. I had so much distortion on it it I probably wouldn't have recognised speaker fart until it was too late otherwise
15. Football? I partake in neither so provided I;m free that weekend I'll be getting myself down there.
16. Just found this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LED-LIGHT-BAR-guitar...=item335d7d84e2 I like this a lot - my only concern would be that it could introduce mains hum into the signal
17. a cool light? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rack-light-19-1U-Coo...=item2a052f70c2
18. Oooh, that would be good. There's a lot more of us in this part of the world on the Forum than there used to be - except it'll still not exactly be handy for the Aberdeen guys but still closer than Moffat
19. I didn't mean any disrespect what i meant its not what is played, its how its played
20. If its the same as the NS4 then according to the website they use Gotoh GB7s, the Euro ones use Locking Schallers. The difference is that Schaller M4s have the screw hole on the bottom corner and GB7s have the screw hole in the middle In fact I've lightened the picture and that looks like Gotohs to me
21. If its a Warmoth and the pictures accurately portray the colour then its ebony. The Warmoth Ebony boards are as black as black can be and it looks the same as the one I had on my '54 P bass. There are about 400 varieties of ebony ranging from 'black' to 'is that ebony?' cos the cheap and nasty stuff tends to be very pale, requires dying and the filling of knots.
22. Billie Jean - F# C# E F# E C# B C# for the verse, A C# A C# A C# A Ab is a simplified version of the chorus Easy Peasy. Most MJ songs are straightforward, its all about the feel
23. The nearest one for us is normally in Moffat, organised by Alan at ACG I haven't managed to get along to one yet as I've normally got something on but I hope to get to the next one whenever that is
24.
Decided to spend a little more and I've gone for the Orange Bass Terror, Its 500 watts RMS compared to the Bugeras 500 watt peak, but does the fact it's only class D change anythin? I hope it's loud enough.
Its its not loud enough then youre either a) hard of hearing and need to see an audiologist or; you're playing Woodstock with no PA support. This is a seriously loud head
25. I rmember vividly my dad coming over on Christmas morning when I was 12 to hear my new bass. I had to hide round the corner from him before I could play. It took me ages before I was comfortable with someone being around me when I played - maybe something to do with worrying that people think you're terrible, being out of your comfort zone or just shy
