1. Unless you don't like the feel of your bass then there's no need to change. I have lots of love for the Thunderbirds but if you want one with a neck close to the Jazz then you need a Goth as they are narrower than the standard one Totally out of fashion as well so you can pick them up pretty cheap at the minute. I am a firm believer that as long as a bass can be adjusted to your liking it can be played live whether in your front room or on stage. You could probably pick up the rig I am using second hand within your budget ish. I love Trace Elliot cabs and have had loads of them. A lot of people are in lightweight mode so anything that weighs more than a cigarette paper is going for silly money. There is so much information available here and most of us are glad to be of assistance if you need any info to get yourself up and running
2. I've always wanted one after seeing Jack Bruce play one with his fingers from many moons ago. Hmm wonder if He'd have gone for the Gibby if the paint was actually dry on his after The Fool paint job
3. is it just me or does the colour of the body compared to the scratchplate make the bass look like one of those £50 jobs off Ebay?
4. one amp and 2 4x10"s so I can use 1 cab for gigs with PA support and bring the doom for the rock stuff
5.
I`ve bought this book, and it has bucket loads of info on this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fender-Bass-Illust...359&sr=1-14
That's the one I have. Very useful and interesting as well as showing pictures of some beautiful and rare models - Bound neck maple fretless Jazz anyone?
6. As part of their New Year sale at the beginning of the year they were advertising SVT IIs for £800 so I thought, brilliant, just finished the Christmas gigs, big pile of money, I'll have one of those. I emailed them to see if they had any and the guy responded by saying that he doubted that they would get any in - well don't advertise something at a fantastic price that you can't sell.
7. Right, just back from the gig. when the boost was full on it was so close to what I wanted but I just needed that tiny bit more so am going to have a look out for a mild overdrive pedal to just take it over the edge cos at the minute its Close to the Edge
8. I used to split my signal between guitar and bass amp when I had the 12 string and did exactly that and it was very good.
9. Hmm, its possible that I may already own the solution to this. Whilst browsing the GK manual, all of the suggested settings for different sounds feature the boost control at the 12 o'clock position so I've just plugged my amp in with one of the cabs and cranked the boost control up and its really dirty. Jeez I've used these amps for so long I never realised they could go that dirty. What an idiot. I'm going to try it out at tonight's gig to see what it sounds like at gig volumes.
10. Has anyone else noticed that most online shops have no or little stock of anything Behringer right now and most are quoting estimated arrival as next year? This thread is not to bash Behringer, merely to see if anyone knows anything.
11. I know someone selling one of those stair climbing trolleys that would be ideal for getting this cab up and down stairs
12. There's a guy on Ebay selling ready made PCBs I don't like to derail but I will anyway How easy is it going to be to attach everything else to this such as pots, jacks etc? http://shop.ebay.co.uk/icecreamterror/m.html Sounds like a good idea for someone like me who's confident soldering pots but with no experience of PCBs and 10 thumbs
13. every time - I took one of mine out briefly during last year's Motorhead gig. Deary Jesus, it was hellishly loud. totally unbearable. There must've been a lot of deaf people in Glasgow for a good few days after that one
14. The Rickenbacker 4004LK couldn't be further from the one he became famous for using. Fair enough he plays this one live now but the age old question is - is Lemmy's original one real? I don't think anyone's had a close enough look at it to see if it is. i may have a chance to ask in a couple of weeks time.
15. I bought this at the start of the year as a way of transporting my 8x10" when having to negotiate stairs or steps but I've never used it. These cost £70 delivered here but I am willing to sell it for £30. If you have anything you'd like to trade - strings, pedals etc then let me know what you have. You'd have to collect it or meet me somewhere reasonable as its going to cost more to post it than what I am selling it for.
16. an SB-3? haven't come across one of those before
17. I buy stuff from these guys from time to time. They do a lot of different printable paper. http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/ In fact my Goth T-Bird now has a white scratchplate which is simply white matt adhesive paper with the bicentennial Bird on it stuck over the original
18. Google is your friend http://www.ashtonmusic.com/manuals/BA200HBA400H.pdf
19. Definitely. If I was closer I;d have it. One thing you'll need to be careful of is that you may not be able to add a second cab as its 4 ohms and most amps only go as low as 4ohms. Richardd is selling a Peavey amp for peanuts. He;s in Lincoln but I'm sure couriering it would be dooable as they go down to 2ohms so you could add a second 4 ohm cab in the futue if you needed it
20. Extremely highly underrated basses. These can do Jazz bass tones as well as the usual expected rock giantness Plus they look cool
21.
Fear gave him wings as they say.....
Smells like fear right enough
22. is that a Badass II or III?
23.
I've got a very good feeling about it!
I had a very good feeling about my Rickenbacker 4003 and my Warwick Thumb NT5 and my Modulus Flea and, well you get the picture. Heard it all before Still, nothing beats the thrill and anticipation of having something new and shiny winging its way to you, for about 5 minutes
24. Its unfortunate that most of the time with players such as these all you get to see/hear is a huge w***fest and there's probably few have heard them playing 'regular' stuff. As I've heard Billy Sheehan say before, he's paid to be the bass player yet all you see on Youtube are those solos and people get fed up with them forgetting that they actually play 'bass' bass Wasn't Mr Big's biggest hit 'To Be With You Again'? So simple and no widdles
