1.
Haha ta. Just begs the question now, who was putting Dimarzios in these unbranded basses?
I was. The first thing I did when I bought my secondhand Jap crap, Precision, copy, in 1979, was to fit a set of DiMarzios. It was the done thing back then as you have now found out.
 2.
Yes the bastards even tax us on stuff that's been taxed already!
Oooooh! I managed to get bastards through the ant profanity software.......result!
 3.
Does all this apply on second hand goods? The import on a $750 bass is £19, but the VAT £110. Do we pay VAT on importing 2nd hand things?
Yes the bastards even tax us on stuff that's been taxed already!
 4. I hear DV247 are in administration. Maybe best to buy it from somewhere else? http://www.psneurope.com/main-content/full/dv247-assets-acquired-by-music-store-cologne-following-administration#.UY16V6Jwp_B
 5. I think it needs a fag burn on the headstock. This is how you do it. Light fag, attach to headstock, Walkaway. See link for illustration. http://img3.imagesha...9/78cigburn.jpg
 6. All of the replacement necks you can buy such as Warmoth, Allparts and Mighty Mite are sold with 17.5 mm holes for the tuners. So I would assume standard USA basses would have the same. I know Some Japanese basses have smaller tuner holes, as I've owned a couple in the past and you could tell they were pretty obviously smaller, just by looking at them.
 7. It's all in the fingers man.
 8.
I'm currently using an Ashdown EB-180 combo, it's not good, it's not good enough anymore, I used to love it sounded great, it's now about 4 years old I think! The sound is fairly crappy, each week it seems to jump from wooly to a much honkier tone, I don't hate it by no means, just want to move it on and get a new amp, I'd consider a better Ashdown, there has to be a reason that their valve amps retail at near on £2k!
As well as my Ashdown MIBass I still have my original, Ashdown, UK made, EB 150 and it still sounds pretty good. I recommend instead of buying another amp get yours serviced. You'll get years more use out of it if you do. And it's much cheaper than buying a new amp.
 9.
The only issue(s) I have with Ashdown are their appalling visual design, comical attempts at marketing and the fact they released the Little Giant and Superfly. Apart from that, I don't hate them.
I never bought a Little giant because of the bad press they got. But The Jazz bar in Edinburgh have one as their in house amp and not only does it sound great but it gets a lot of abuse (3 bands per night 7 days per week) and is still working as well as ever. Maybe it just goes to show that, with technology, you only hear about the small minority that go wrong but never hear about the ones that are super reliable.
 10. I've been told these are every bit as good as the MIJ Geddys and are fitted with American Vintage alnico pickups too. This is such a giveaway price I'm astounded somebody hasn't bitten your hand off to get it. Have a bump on me.
 11.
The ABM EQ is something I really like and find easy to use. I'd like to try one of their 12 band graphic designs sometime, I'm guessing it will be similar to the classic TE GP12 design if it's a Clive Button design. Cheers Geoff
Buy a Boss GEB-7 graphic, like I did when I had my ABM, and have the best of both worlds.
 12.
Hi, I was hoping somebody could shed some light on a marcus miller bass i have.. I was told this model wasn't released until 98.. So how on earth does mine have a 93-94 seriel... It is all 100 % genuine as i took it to a fender dealer and they clarified this? I did some research on the net and there is a couple feeds on fake looking ones.. Where this one of mine is complete original, is it possible they might of made some of them earlier or something.. thanks
Looks like they're recycling serial numbers. This may help http://www.talkbass....zz-bass-703664/
 13. I watched the video the other day and I wouldn't mind being in a band with Joe Walsh but I'm not so sure about the others. I'm in two minds about the Eagles. They're just a bit too sterile. They got Joe into the band to rock it up a bit but even he has a hard time giving them an edge. It's all a bit corporate soft rock/country.
 14. Good luck to you all. It was 3 months before I got my compact.
 15.
Where's the best place to get them from?
I've seen sets for sale on ebay
 16. Will you be making an appearance at Edinburgh again this year? I enjoyed the last two shows of yours I went to.
 17. Having owned a MIJ Geddy, which was an impeccably built bass, I wondered how MIM basses would compare. From what I hear they are just as good as the Japanese ones. I know that the Mexican factory can produce some lovely instruments having owned a MIM custom shop designed 'Classic Player' Stratocaster. I've also heard great things about the 'Road Worn' basses too. One thing I have noticed, is that they no longer use the 'Fender Original pickups' and have gone with the 'American Vintage' pickups instead. Having said that the Mexican Vintage Alnico pickups they have in the 'Road Worn' Jazzes are great pickups. They should have fitted them in the Geddy. I have a set fitted in my bass and they sound excellent.
 18.
I'm interest actually ...... because i'm planning to switch back to fender pickups. I use dimarzio dp123.
Do it! You know you want to.
 19.
Not so cheap in the end then......
The soundclip obviously did the business. It did sound very nice. It went for about twice what it cost originally in the early 80s.
 20. I whacked an eminence Kappa into my old Ashdown EB 150 when I needed a speaker cab that could handle 500watts in an emergency (a between cabs situation). It sounds great (no distortion and super loud/clear) and I frankly just can't justify buying an expensive cab when it sounds so good.
 21. Does the fact that John Taylor owned it make it more valuable or less valuable than a bog standard Aria SB1000?
 22. I play blues and when I, or the guitarist, makes a mistake we call it 'Jazz'.
 23.
i no longer have those stock pickup ...... change them for dimarzio dp123 long time ago but really regret now because i like the original pickup ......
I tried the DiMarzio 123 pickups but found them too dark and bassy. You won't get the sound you're looking for with those pickups. I recommend you buy these for £30 which will help you a lot in your quest. Strangely enough the guy who is selling them swopped them for Model Js 123 pickups. 24. These are very nice well made MIJ Squiers form the early 90s. This one has an added Kent Armstrong humbucker at the bridge. Worth £200 of anybody's money in my opinion..........nice. 25. Interesting that you're having problems getting that punchy clank thing Jazz basses are so renowned for. Every Jazz bass I ever had had that sound. Your bass has the Mexican Vintage Alnico pickups which also are used for the road worn bass. I have them fitted to my Jazz too and have no problem getting the sound you're looking for. I recommend you lower the action and remove any bridge or pickup covers you have so you can really dig in. This is a Fender road worn with your pickups in it getting the sound you're looking for.
