1. Pete bought my scratchplate. Deal was smooth as silk.
2. Some of my best friends talk sh*t. That's probably why I like them I guess.
3.
Don't laugh...but experience has taught me that Sweet Home Alabama is easy to play, but much harder to play in an extremely tight fashion. I have to employ a fair bit of damping and ghost notes to be on the money with that bad boy...not so easy when singing simultaneously.
The actual bassline is very simple but if you don't have 3 electric guitarists and a piano player in your band it can sound just a bit empty. 4. Well if you're prepared to spend that kind of money I think you should make sure you try before you buy. You don't want to spend thousands and find the bass you bought has a neck like a bassball bat. This is probably the guy you want to go visit. 5.
Oh sh1t! I've got to learn that for a dep gig! Is it that bad? Also, Forget You by Ce-Lo Green. I was happily bouncing along on that simple riff when it goes to the other extreme! I actually had to sit down and concentrate on that!
Don't worry. The chorus has an unnecessarily busy bassline. The song will probably sound better if you simplify it.

7.
Thanks for the help . I'll measure when I get home later. Which is the set you're looking at? Because I can't find an identical set anywhere. Regardless, I think getting a single tuner from wayne or Grangur would be ideal to keep the bass original and keep costs down... still I might have to get a new set of 4 if things don't work out unfortunately.
Duh...... I was looking at the Mustang reissue not the musicmaster.
8.
I hope this helps. Measurements aside, I can't find a single bass key which looks the same so if it lines up with what you have then it'll most definitely be the same. The only damaged part is the base "key" bit. Thanks.
The measurement you want to know is the diameter of the hole in the headstock. The bushings usually fit into these holes and are usually 17.5 mm or 16 mm for Fenders. Checking the spindle on mine (which are standard vintage Fender) it is 14mm, which is the same as yours. Looks like a standard set of tuners would fit the hole. I notice 'Bass Parts resource' in the states sell a full set. http://www.guitarpar...unersfender.htm
9.
Hi guys, I have a lovely musicmaster bass which I got today but one of the tuning keys was completely damaged in shipping. The problem is I really can't find any direct replacement. I guess I'll have to replace all 4 of the keys for other ones but I'm not really sure which I'll need. If anyone could help I'd be eternally grateful. I can get measurements and pics if requested. Many thanks.
Before you buy a full set, remove the damaged tuner and check the diameter of the tuning peg hole. Most Fender holes are 17.5 mm but some Japanese Fender ones are 16mm.
10. It just means that all the notes on a string are perfectly in tune on every fret. An example would be - if you plucked the open G string and confirmed it was in tune and then plucked the G string while fretting it on the 12th fret, and that note was showing as G as well on your tuner, then your G string has perfect intonation (which means all the notes on that string will be in tune up and down the neck - which is what you want). If the string was in tune with G when you played it open but was showing as F when you played it at the 12th fret then the intonation on that string is wrong and you would have to adjust the length of the string at the bridge to get the intonation correct. Ideally you would want to adjust the intonation on your bass to be correct on every string otherwise you'll never get you bass to sound in tune up and down the neck. Check on youtube on how to do it properly (it's pretty simple) and your bass playing will sound a lot better, especially when you're playing along to music or other musicians.
11. I bought a set of mexican Jazz bass pickups from ebay which cost me the princely sum of £9.99. I was chopping and changing pickups at the time and decided, at that price, they were worth a try. Compared to the other pickups I've had in my bass they didn't get a very good score out of 10. These are the pickups I've tried in the last 2 years. American Vintage 9/10 (very stereotypical growly Jazz Bass) American Original 9/10 (quite rounded 60's style Jazz Bass) Wizard 64s 9/10 (very like the American vintage sound) MIJ Silver Squiers 9/10 (deeper rounded sound almost precisionlike) DiMarzio Model J 6/10 (very deep dirty sounding - not very typical Jazz Bass) Mex Standard 5/10 (not very exciting compared to the others - not much character) Squier standard 7/10 (decent all rounder - especially considering the bass only cost me £95 secondhand) Roadworn Jazz 10/10 (best sounding pickups I've owned - great character. Can do growly Jaco and deep John Paul Jones. These are made in Mexico so shows they can get it right if they want to)
12. SOLD Genuine Fender Jazz Bass bridge and pickup covers £15. Very good condition. P&P £3.
13.
That does look nice. I got one recently and the tone is amazing - sounds more like a P Bass than any other I have picked up. Lightweight and relatively narrow neck, too. Gotta spread da lurve about Silver Series P Basses!
And Jazzes too. Silver Series basses are a real bargain in my opinion.
14. Buy a roadworn Fender. Every new dent increases it's resale value
15. £200? Somebody's getting a good deal.
16. I had to give up on a superlow action on my Geddy Lee, as it's very shallow neck always needed adjustment.
17. Noel Gallagher's put down of Coldpay is a classic, 'music for bedwetters'.
18. The Dana Dixon Band at Belfast Blues Festival 28th, 29th, 30th June
19. The tuners on my 70's neck are stiff and I like them that way. The thing stays in tune for years at a time.
