  1. What's Going On was 50 yesterday, and as a celebration (and if any album is worthy of such, this one must be) Craig Charles has what sounds like a great show from 6pm tonight. A host of current artists are recreating the album, along with interviews with people who were involved in the album, or worked with/knew Marvin.
  2. Weren't diMarzio the go to pickup for this era bass?
  3. Something brand new. Heavily programmed, but to me, still has a great feel. Joel Culpepper.
  4. Another place to try is allmusic.com May take a bit of digging around and cross-referencing, but they have a lot of details.
  5. Do you know these @mybass?
  6. I agree. I love loads of diverse stuff - from Dusty Springfield to Therapy? (oh, and the Terrortones) but equally, there is plenty I can't abide. @BigRedX is right - anything shows a complete lack of care.
  7. I listen to the widest range of music, and still keep finding stuff I like, both new,(Christine & the Queen's, Joel Culpepper) and old (fairly recent Dylan and Springsteen convert). Also love Classical, Bop, and Big Band Jazz. Doesn't @Beedster have some background in the latter part of the OP's question?
  8. Happy Dylan Thomas day everyone... https://youtu.be/U4N_xEhDTdg
  9. Enjoy it, and enjoy the fact that your punters are happy. Of course, if they're not then drop it.
  10. I did go to a West End gay club with a gay friend - absolutely fine, no hassle and of course, some great music!
  11. There was a pub across the road which was up on the first floor - useful for a pre gig beer or for the times you didn't get in 😕
  12. Wow, that's a step too far for me even as a proud MoR fan
  13. They are a great set, and informative. If only I had some cash AND a band 😒
  14. Got any more pictures? Sorry, couldn't resist. Beautiful looking bass. GLWTS.
  15. I don't think I have any sound that I don't like, just that I like it in certain ways. Two examples - Fuzz guitar. Not overdrive, but Fuzz. Overall, not a fan, but then it works so well on 'Summer Breeze' or Tony Peluso's solo on 'Goodbye to Love'. The other one is Tom Morello. Didn't like his tone until I heard it with Springsteen, where the clash of the two styles worked brilliantly.
  16. As others have already said, but in different words, one man's meat is another's murder. I wouldn't give Stagg or Vintage house room, but many on here certainly rate the latter. LTD/ESP is the one I don't understand. There are some very high quality, high priced LTD models, yet the ESP brand is kept minimal.
  17. This far in and nobody has suggested the obvious - a 5 string Stingray...
  18. Sport has a greatest (Ali of course). Music doesn't, and more importantly, doesn't need one.
  19. Mykesbass

    1985

Wise choice if you ask me.
  20. Or Olivia Newton John/ELO
  21. Don Letts played these guys last night. Nice vibe. https://amjcollective.bandcamp.com/
  22. Two problems here. First, it isn't the only variable. The amount of variance in the player would probably be outside of the tolerances of a good scientific experiment. Secondly, 'evidences before their eyes' - remember the blue/gold - black/white dress a couple of years back? We don't all see things the same, perhaps we don't hear things the same, and get some bias in our hearing from what we see? To do this properly, the room would need to be atmospherically strable, a mechanical device used for plucking of the strings, and, most importantly, should be done blind. When someone does this I'll start paying attention.
  23. So why are you quoting a non-controlled, non-peer reviewed 'experiment'?
