  1. Some might argue this proves the point.
  2. Thanks - hopefully fixed now.
  3. If their turnover has to keep increasing at this rate to keep the same amount (not percentage) of profit, that profit margin will become so small that it will only take the smallest of problems to wipe all the profit out. It also shows my point about the deepest pockets forcing out the smaller players.
  4. Just had a quick look at GAK's figures on Companies House. Now, I'm not the greatest at reading balance sheets, and I know an awful lot of (legal) tweaking is allowed, but they basically made the same profit in 2015 on £10m less turnover as they did in 2020. Like @TheGreek's local shop, this is not sustainable.
  5. The irony is that the laws were brought in to create competition. Everyone (retail) slashed margins to get market share and slowly but surely, the smaller players started to tumble, all the way up to the situation we have now with a handful of behemoths slugging it out. When there is a final winner they will be able to set their price as high as they damned well please, thereby killing off all competition.
  6. Crazy law has just led to a race to the bottom, with the company with the deepest pockets able to offer the biggest discounts. Ironically it is supposed to help competition.
  7. I have it on very good authority that Geldof didn't consider the Rats to be Punk. Great track, great bass line.
  8. Ooh,as a kid I had a Japanese no-name Gibson Barney Kessel copy - very much the same shape. Looking forward to this one progressing.
  9. I was due to be rehearsing tonight. All agreed to lateral flow tests, but my son (back from university) felt I'll and has tested positive so now isolating. I think testing is worthwhile. Haven't got any further than that yet.
  10. Thinking about this thread again this morning, and it occurred to me one of my favourite bands Tedeschi Trucks have always mixed and matched originals and covers. Another great act that also did this was the late Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. Good enough for them...
  11. The former unfortunately.
  12. I tried one in Bass Direct and was shocked at how quiet it seemed compared to everything else I tried.
  13. Can Status not help? They have a good reputation on here for communication.
  14. Just seen it is being shown near to me (Brighton). Hopefully will get to see it this week.
  15. Yes. Love the aesthetics of electric guitars, would happily collect loads if money allowed. Also seriously gassing for some nice cymbals for my son's kit but they cost as much each as his Pearl Export did 😕
  16. Pete Stroud @mybass
  17. Bit of a fan here too - have one of your 5 string P pickups in my Shuker, and am still trying to work out how to justify owning an Acinonyx - love the look and the video reviews I've seen. Good to see you on here.
  18. A little trick we used on my old band was to put an original in a 3 song medley. Worked really well.
  19. My last band transitioned from being a pub blues, blues/rock band into being an originals blues/rock band. The originals tended to blend well with the covers so we didn't have too much of a problem. I'd suggest trying a couple of others, but make sure they work really well with what you play either side of them. If one already goes down well there's no reason a couple more won't. But the opposite is also as important - ditch the ones that aren't working.
  20. Especially artists that sing and play an instrument!
  21. Bit of a problem in that you need to have some of the basics on place naturally - height, build, hair, colour before you can add the costume/styling. I have a friend who luckily has these in place for his Prince tribute. He is also an amazing guitarist and does a great job of replicating Prince's vocals.
  22. It is an Albatross around my neck!
  23. As long as you don't have to end with Help!
