  1. What other instruments are involved? There are very few, if any, ABGs that will really cut it.
  2. Try standard gauge (760T) white nylon flats by La Bella. Meaty to dig in on, a very nice top end, and low tension too. Some people find them too floppy, but if it's between that and regular steel core flats there's no contest for me.
  3. I still remember the first time I listened to a Deep Purple LP. It was "Machine Head", the year was 1978 and I was twelve. I was just blown away by the power and energy of it. Happy, simpler days.
  4. Hello Ash They are to retain the amp in the chassis.
  5. 2013 NEW OLD STOCK Here we have an Italian-made Markbass Micromark 801 bass combo in perfect condition. The Micromark 801 is a compact, high-quality bass combo amp with a solid-state preamp and an analog power amp, which delivers 45 Watts of power into a 8 inch Markbass neodymium speaker. The VPF control (Variable Preshape Filter) allows you to boosts lows (around 35 Hz) and highs (around 10 kHz), and cuts mids at 380 Hz. 60 Watts of output power when using an extension cabinet. AUX input for CD or MP3 player, headphone jack, speaker on/off switch for using headphones or only an extension cabinet. Balanced XLR line output with ground lift switch. Very easy to transport because of the compact dimensions of 28 x 28 x 28 cm and a weight of just 7.2 kg. Terrific little unit. Only selling as I've decided to get something slightly bigger. I am firm on £200, which includes UK postage.
  6. Are the pickup covers really as mashed up as they look?
  7. I've just received a custom pedal from James and wanted to let everyone know what great service I received from him. Originally, I just wanted a simple A/B switch with volume control, but with an added tuner mute. James said no problem and sent me a design and quote. Then I realised I could add in the EQ switching for my Little Marcus amp to reduce clutter on the floor at gigs. Again, a revised design and (very reasonable) quote sent through in a matter of hours. Pedal arrived today. Looks terrific. Kudos to James and BOP!
  8. Better Times - The Black Sorrows
  9. Or indeed the Guild Jumbo Junior...
  10. Has anyone got or played one of these? They look so cute!
  11. Me too. I'm a relatively recent convert to Markbass as well. Sounds great, big range, decent second hand prices mean it's easy to try different stuff. All good. I take the big badges off the cabs
  12. I have one, soon to be moved on to another BCer. Have a look at my sale thread here. They are great basses. Very nicely put together for Thomann by Hora in Romania, so a proper hand made bass.
  13. The 121H is a very different configuration to the 210P. The former has bigger lows and is generally smoother in tone, whereas the latter is much punchier, typical of the difference between 10 and 12 inch drivers. As Chris says, EQ again from flat and build your new sound. If it really doesn't work for you then going back to the 210 is probably your best bet.
  14. I don't know if this helps, but Wal basses always used to be strung with Picatos at the factory, but now they use D'Addario XL. Perhaps they are similar in feel?
  15. Earlier Overwater strings were indeed made by Picato, but they must have changed supplier now as Picato went out of business a few years ago now. I know that they haven't found a new supplier for flats they like yet.
  16. You're getting your Paul's mixed up Chris, it's Paul Herman at Wal, not the Jamiroquai bassist! That would be our resident Wal expert and all round good guyTrevor Raggatt @TrevorR An excellent find if the price is right!
  17. I have decided to sell my Thomann Slimline. Better pictures will follow, but it looks like this. These basses are made for Thomann by Hora in Romania. It's a standard 3/4 size bass but the body is only half the normal depth, so it's actually much easier to play. Top: Laminated arched spruce Back: Laminated arched maple Sides: Beech Ebony fingerboard 105cm scale length It is strung with SIlver Slaps, and comes with a stand (pictured), a J-tone Big double bass twin pickup (£44), and a full-size and heavy duty Tom and Will gig bag. I sanded and oiled the back of the neck to make it easier to play, which worked a treat. The fingerboard started to come away at the edges but I had it checked over by Ian Robinson (when he was based at GB Music in Bognor) and he gave it all a clean bill of health and confirmed all was secure. These currently cost £843 from Thomann. I am looking for £450 collected.
  18. Noll preamps are fantastic, and @spyderis a thoroughly decent chap too.
  19. Pino played some lovely stuff on the early Nick Heyward and Julia Fordham albums that is well worth a listen.
  20. What about a shallow-bodied bass like this? I have one you can try if you think it might help and am localish to you.
