I have two sets of very lightly used Newtone strings for sale. Both sets are nickel plated on round cores, low tension, and were cut for 3 over 2 headstocks. The sets are slightly longer than standard and would suit extended scale or through body basses. Platinum Bass: 50/70/90/110/130, 97 cm long - £25 posted Diamond Bass: 55/70/90/110/135 (tapered), 98 cm long - £25 posted I also have an unused Newtone steel roundwound low B .130 (tapered), 95cm long - £8 posted Thanks for looking. I use exactly the same setup and it really is fantastic. The EQ on the Marcus head is spot on. Very good price for the pair too. -
Welcome! My Nan was from Monmouth - Wigmore's in St Mary's Street was her family business. My aunt still lives in the town, just off the Rockfield Road actually. Many fond memories of the area, and still one of my favourite places to visit. In fact, off to stay with my Aunt on Sunday night before dropping my son in Cardiff on Monday for a 3 day hockey camp (he's in the Wales U16 squad). Cheers Gareth

Funny you should mention Picato. I just took a punt on the very last set of extra long Overwater flats to put on my fretless 5 and they are really nice.

Thanks for the replies. I already use La Bella white nylons on my fretless and really like them, but for me I think the tension would be too low on a fretted, so I was looking for alternatives.

Looking for half/ground wound recommendations? I’d like to find something that feels like a flat wound, super smooth and with minimal drag or noise under the finger.

I've had this for a couple of years. It's had an easy life and has hardly been played to be honest. It's a good, no frills, acoustic bass. Nicely put together. Currently fitted with La Bella white nylons which work really well on it. I really rate Hot Covers. Our PA speakers have lived in a pair from them for what must be eight years now, and they still look great. I recently bought the fabric covered version for a new cab and that's even better. Big thumbs up from me too. I like Roqsolid, but I think Hot Covers edge it.
