  1. An equipment failure at last night's gig (surprise 40th bday party for our recently departed alto sax man). If you look carefully you can see that this straplock has worn so thin over the years that the metal has finally failed completely and it pulled straight off the button. Thankfully not until i took it off at the end of the gig. I'm not complaining... this straplock is one half of the first pair I ever bought when I got my Wal back in mid 1986.
  2. Arrgh. Stop it. *sticks finger in ears* I don't need a new amp I don't need a new amp I don't need a lovely new amp I don't need a lovely new Trace Elliot amp Arrrrrrgh
  3. Oh good lord. 💜
  4. Heart Like A Truck - Lainey Wilson
  5. There are far, far worse headstocks on P & J style basses out there. The rest of the bass is so damn good, I can easily overlook it.
  6. Love of the Common Pebble - Nicky Thomas
  7. Errm yes, I know. I've been doing this music malarkey long enough to have realised that.
  8. How to ask for bass strings in German: "I. VONT. SOME. SCHTRINGS. FOR. ZE. BASS."
  9. Would that be Eddie Han Valey now?
  10. Yes it was. The clue is in the phrase "he was offered either a flat fee or a percentage".
  11. I have just GOT to get some of these for my Thunder 1A..!
  12. After I collected my Shuker in 2007, I found some really lovely turned ebony knobs on eBay... they look a million miles better than the black dome metal ones it had. (It never occurred to me to spec some nice knobs when I originally commissioned the build.) I remember them being ridiculously cheap for what they were, but the guy's ebay shop is long gone alas.
  13. Just resurrected my old mic stand (and when I say 'old', it still bears the name of a band I was in that split in 1988). Very rusty and creaky, but after disassembly an overnight soak in white vinegar and a clean-up with wire wool soon got rid of the rust on the adjusting bits, and with a bit of silicon WD spray here and there it's as good as... well, not good as new, but it's got a new lease of life.

Just retired my old mic stand to the bin.  Can't complain, it probably did 400 gigs plus with me....what surprised me is it's replacement weighed about half as much.

  14. Spoilsport - Three Barry Sisters
  15. The End of the World As We Know It - REM
  16. I have always said that Yamaha basses offer nearly unbeatable VFM. My old RBX765A was an incredible instrument for its ridiculously low asking price. I would take a BB1025x over any Fender bass**, any day of the week. And I would dearly love to have a TRB5P. ** with the possible exception of the Roscoe Beck 5 and the original Urge
  17. Things like this really make me wish I got on with Tbirds. Lovely.
  18. O No Not Again · Lindisfarne
  19. When Vincent Price recorded his part for MJ's Thriller album, he was offered either a flat fee or a percentage. He chose the fee.
  20. I Can Sing a Rainbow - Peggy Lee
  21. Don't Speak - No Doubt
  22. Too Much Too Young - Specials
  23. There She Goes - The La's
  24. This perfect, perfect song. Opening track from session legend and nicest guy in the world Mo Foster's solo album Bel Assis, with the incomparable and much missed Gary Moore on guitar and the godlike Simon Phillips on drums. So beautiful it puts a lump in my throat.
