You mean how [b]is[/b] the music shop, singular. That'd be the one that relies on the school market of descant recorders and 3/4 size classical guitars in order to survive. Last time I went in, the most exotic electric instrument they had was an entry-level Yamaha Pacifica. The folks who run it are nice people, but it ain't our kind of shop.

The thing that first turned me on to Alain Caron was his sense of melody. For me, he is the master of the tuneful fretless bass solo. I love his playing, and if it was just pointless shredding I wouldn't. Yes he can play blisteringly fast at times, but it's always perfectly in tune and melodic. MHO of course.

I bring the Shuke to play and the Status just in case, plus I take my tool/spares box -- I refer to it as my 'oh-sh1t box' -- containing (deep breath) screwdrivers, spanners, a million allenkeys, pliers, snips & scissors, nail-clippers, wire-strippers, strings, PP3s, fuses, gas-iron, solder, insulating & double-sided tapes, torch, cable, wire, pots, resistors, switches, heatshrink insulation, jack plugs & sockets, rapid araldite, superglue, multimeter, switch cleaner...

+1 on the pickups & polepieces. To stop the distortion on mine, I ended up lowering the pickups almost all the way down into the surrounds. The bass' output is huge. The pot spindles are quite delicate, they snap into the top of the pot via two little clip/prong things which can very easily break off. As some of mine did, some time ago. They're all OK at the moment, but god help me if they break again. My bass is currently wearing non-original control knobs and I'd love to get some originals for it. My bass is PB1533, & I bought it for £330 in 1986.

The Enormous Room is just [i]stunning[/i]. It nearly moves me to tears every time. Manring is a genius.

I never tire of listening to JB's performance on 'Joe Frazier'... blows my mind every time. I've never heard anything else of his that has come remotely close. His arrogance must be visible from the moon.
