It might be the tight string spacing (16.5mm, yuck) that's making the body look big.

How dare you, I am a fishmonger with kids to support etc etc etc

"Oh What a night (Late December back in '63)", yup that's on our to-do list somewhere too I'd love to get some Tower Of Power stuff in the set, but it's nowhere near a} cheesy or b} well-known enough.

New 350 cap. Venue in Cardiff looking for bands
Rich replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Cool, can only be a good thing. We're playing The Point tomorrow night, it's a great venue but they've got real neighbour problems... I hope this new place fares a bit better.
Michelle Shocked, Dreadzone .... Not really heard of any of them before.
What?? Go to the bottom of the class -
I'd give my right nut to play in a band like this. LOVE that groove thang. But Bristol is a weeeeeee bit too much of a commute methinks
I don't know why, but I alway cringe when the Booker T & the MGs Soul Limbo is referred to as the cricket theme. Like hearing The William Tell Overture referred to as "the Lone Ranger Theme"
Fair enough... but if you say to most people "oh we do Booker T & the MG's 'Soul Limbo'", they'll go "Nah, don't know it mate". But if you tell them "oh we do that tune off the cricket on telly", they'll go "ah right, that calypsoey one, do do-do do-dooo...". Sad fact. Had a great rehearsal last night, putting the final polish on our latest slab o' cheese... a medley of "I Want You Back" and "ABC". Bassist's dream, those two. Love it The next chunk of edam on our to-do list is "Disco Inferno" apparently...

We do Walking On Sunshine too, it's a cracker... first verse is slow with just guitar and vocal, the punters are always singing along by the time it gets to the first "whoa-ohh" bit, then the band launches in and they go mental. And just for a laugh, we've got the cricket theme 'Soul Limbo' in the middle. And we do Delilah too. Cheese rools!
Once you hit a certain price point, you're going to be getting a really good quality instrument. I'm not sure how much better off you'll be by spending another £1k. Having said that, I've never tried some of these [s]sw***y[/s] posh expensive basses that some of you lucky lot have in your collections, so I might be talking rubbish.
I'm pretty sure that once you hit a certain price point, the extra thousands are simply buying further aesthetic qualities rather than enhancing the sound. The price point seems to depend on the individual maker... Alembic's appears to be about 10 grand

Anyone find they have problems remembering basslines?
He strikes me as one of these musician's musicians whose "stardom" only exist in guitar magazines, on forums and on their own websites.
Well, it's all relative. After all, people like Slags Aloud and the Spice Gurners are international superstars instantly recognisable by millions. Unfortunately. I can well believe that Mr.Berlin's arrogance extends into real life too though.... sad to say, but it's not surprising that he was rude to you.
Edit: and you moderate the theory forum???
Yeah, well Jeff Berlin was busy.

Woohoo ^_^ Blessed with a great ear -- if I listen to something once, I can usually pick it up Good sense of rhythm Never, ever get stage fright or nerves of any sort Can sing fairly well too, even while playing fairly complicated stuff (if I practice at it!) Reasonably versatile -- can slap/use a pick/play fretless Happy to sit in the pocket all day, driving a groove and not worrying about solos Nice kit D'oh Can't read a note, although I can follow a chart My theory sucks -- I couldn't spot a Phrygian dominant scale if it bit me on the arse Not got the fastest fingers in the world Very self-critical Can't solo to save my life (apart from maybe slap) Want more nice kit My hands are gradually succumbing to arthritis

Let's Dance - Bowie The bassline IS the song (apart from the vocal line). AND it's got Stevie Ray on it. Superb tune and, being Bowie, as cool as feck.

The Status is the second fiddle to my Shuker. It's usually the one that gets chucked in the car for rehearsals too.
No I just think this site starting to serve fewer and fewer people everyday. Its becoming TOO big,The same things (Clips, vids, threads) keep coming up and the SAME sh*tehurling occurs....over musical taste, style, wood choice,Bass choice (P's Vs J's....PLEASE NO MORE)..String number (Old and dead). respect works both ways, but sometimes its getting tedious.....right now is one of those times...I wont let some 18/20 something f***tard with a firewood Japcrap tell me what I should listen too, neither will I bow to "I own X make of instrument so therefor my opinion counts" type crap either,Im just as bad,as I just use this place to let off steam after a day at work. Thats why I tend to enjoy Finnbass a bit more, less buttkissing, more gags, and generally more actual info about a question (and a good few DIY tips too)...Just wish there was a bit more going on...... ...So thats me off then...thanks for the memories folks, have a good day! XRX
The pickup is fugly, although I don't doubt its flexibility. I'd prefer to see it presented 'traditionally' as two separate units, albeit functioning as it presently does. I'm very much liking this one: But the prices? Oh dear oh dear oh deary deary dear. They'll be lucky to shift many I reckon.

The book (a good read, I thoroughly enjoyed it!) is now winging its way to angelboy. So let the next round of bagsies begin
Might be wrong, but i thought it was PP. I know John Giblin did a couple of tracks on the album though. [Great player] This might help... 3/4 of the way down... http://www.bassplayer.com/article/4-fantastic/Mar-04/622 Garry
Oh well, I stand corrected I'd always thought it was JG... Pino's name doesn't appear on the album credits y'see. Anyway, it does sound remarkably like JG's impeccable fretless work, even if it really isn't.
