  1. All points taken - this was just a rough draft certainly on my part but I'll pass on the comments Cheers guys
  2. Hey BC Brigade My old house mate found out her work buddy was a producer/hip hop nut who gave me this track to add some bass to. This is a rough sketch with a couple of timing issues *ahem* but I think its the final version Im gonna bounce back to him as my effort (once I have re-recorded it that is!) Before I do so I'd really appreciate feedback and constructive criticism. Its been played on a P bass with the tone right off, flatwound strings and I was going for my idea of a '70's tone'. I have added some EQ via garageband for what I think is a punchy, yet fat, tone. I know the mix isn't that great but he'll be getting a raw file to add and mix down as he sees fit so from that aspect its not an issue - this is just a quick sketch. I felt the original track was repetitive, but not in a bad way - its a great track- so I wanted to try and create three distinct sections playing something different on each pass kinda thing- a riff, a solid line and then something with a bit of movement adding to the 'drama'........ Well either that and I just tried to be groovy Thanks in advance folks and don't mind the 70's pic's. I had to add something to make it a bit more interesting Plus its only available via this link for now as its a demo track. 3. The price and the unique look of the bass are the likely culprits I know a big Al sold on here recently but it took ages - just ask Chris - and Im guessing there may be one in the country in a dealers to actually go and give a try out compared to a Fender or Ibanez. The Big Al is a serious piece of kit both in terms of playability and tones but its a lot of money and times they are tight. I took a power amp off the markert as its just not the right time to sell one. Also the price I'd dropped to was way below what it was worth in real terms. You dn't wanna get in the position where you're losing big money! Keep the Big Al and relist in a few months -if someone is looking for one they will find your thread via google or the ridiculous number of daily bumps
  4. Acidbass Jacqueslemac Tuco Samba_83 krispn added 27/5/11 - do me a treat for night shift. Just bounce it over once you are done please.
  5. I tampered with a 5 string for a short while but when the crunch came to selling the 4 or the 5 i kept the 4 just because I was tripping myself up - I basically needed more time with it but financial pressure meant I didnt have that luxury. However I did learn a few things whilst playing the 5 string.... I'd say DONT play it like a 4 string with an extra low b string, instead rework your bands song incorporating the low B. Basically relearn or rework the fingering of the songs so you have that added flexibility of going onto the B. We have a tune in 7/8 played in around A string C#. By shifting down and across to C# on the E I played the same pattern more or less but the notes had more weight to them - for me at least the desire to use the 5 string like this and make it a common feature of my playing meant i viewed the fretboard in a different way. I stumbled and hit the odd bum note but it soon became quite natural. I always thought that upright (UR) players approach the bass in a different way to electric players (doh obvious). What I mean is that while we naturally play in 'box shapes' I always thought of UR bassists playing diagonally back and across the strings, the bass line in So What springs to mind for no obvious reason, just in a more efficient manner. I kinda tried to play like this with a 5 string to minimise shifting about and it did make me think and play in a slightly different way. Bottom line from my experience is play the 5 string exclusively for a month, rethink your approach to songs you already know and try and play an hour each day just to get the feel of it. Dont over use the B string especially on lower notes as it could actually take away from the power of a three piece and just have fun with it. Best of luck!

  7. phsycoandy How's the hangover this morning (quiet) bump
  8. Still available bump - go on you know you wanna
  9. I must concur Just having the flexibility to drop a MM stingray type tone or a classic P bass tone simply by pressing a button is a wonderful thing and thats just in passive mode! MM20 I was thinking that a 5 string Big Al would be just about the greatest bass in terms of versatility and tone. The Big Al deserves to be tried out if you are any way interested. It is a really excellent bass! bump
  10. The EBS seems like the middle ground loud enough but portable enough - I emails a retailer a while back asking for some first hand opinions and they basically told me not to get it!! Said it was more a studio amp but surely 90 'valve' watts would be useable live in smaller venues with pa support? The price is high for what it is but then who else is making anything in this range volume-wise? Be keen to hear if anyone has tried one out?
  11. Is this the one you were thinking about the gold p/g for? It looks just delightful as it is Now if only I had the cash type bump...

Kevin bought a Aguilar Db410 from me nd was a total gent. I just bought an Aguilar GS112 from him and again it was a hassle free deal. Nice guy who knows 'everyone'!! Enjoy that MM when you get your hands on it. Sounds like a beauty! I've used this line before in fb threads but if Kevin has some gear for sake you want - go for it. Top bloke!
  13. If you'd like to courier it over to me I'll tell you Seriously though have a look at the pics and see if it has the same number of screw holes (Oh matron!) but I should imagine it'll be fine. If it fitted on my 08 P bass your '57 should be perfect! I've shown a close up pic of what looks like a wee scratch probably from the tone knob being fitted a little tight but it will be covered when you have the control pots fitted. - it actually shows more clearly on the distance shot rather than the close up. Thanks fo' looking!
  14. OK so I used my trusty Ikea paper tape measure and this is what it told me The BD is just over 5.5 inches long (14.5cm) and just shy of 4 inches from top to bottom (10.5 cm) The power supply isn't pictured but is in tip top condition. The pedal is working fine with no pot crackle etc. I spent the last 30 minutes cleaning off a gaffa tape strip that had some settings scribbled on it so this is a clean as it's getting Enjoy
  15. I'll measure up in the morning and show a pic beside some boss pedals
  16. Yeah for sure - you may notice the time of my post - I was on night shift and I have just woke up I'll get something up soon but its essentially mint. I bought it for an acoustic thing we did and wanted that classic '50's vibe. I could hear "Oooh's" from the other bass players when I took the P bass out for the sound check and they all thought the USA '08 was a USA '50's custom shop just because of the guard and the lovely tone from the flats and NP4.
  17. Yeah its not a 'direct 'replacement in the sense that the 50's style plate has fewer holes but it never bothered me that I had a spare screw or two. so to reiterate this WILL fit a standard p bass in terms of size and layout but it has 11 screw holes instead of the now standard 13 unless you have a 50'sRI or a bass with 11 screw holes! Cheers for the nudge LukeFRC
  18. As it say's in the title Available immediately for a mere £30 delivered. Go on! Treat you're P bass to a new frock
  19. Up for grabs is my Fulltone Bass Drive - a very well respected and versatile pedal from Mr Fuller! I notice this isnt listed on his site any more?? Well not on the main products page at least. Its the MOSFET version which has the dual mini toggle switches to fine tune the tones from modern to vintage and select the function be it drive or clean boost. I've used this pedal exclusively for about 2 years and its solid as a rock. The price includes an Aguilar 18v power supply (which cost me £25 new) It works perfectly with the pedal and is in tip top condition - All in price including postage is £115 - think of the money it'll save you in Duracel Pro's!! Get in touch! Pictures will follow - gonna give it a bit of a clean up so its nice and pretty first Oh and just to say: Price is final on this one folks as I'm not keen to split - I have no use for the 18v psu for anything else at the moment. Cheers, Gizzle Dizzle
  20. Check the neck plate - all p basses made this year have this neck plate to celebrate 60 yrs.
  21. Bought a preamp. Superbly packaged and as described. Next day delivery and a nice phone chat. Top bloke and deal with confidence!
  22. Looks nice with the black plate. This is a nice bass - had the pleasure of trying it out last week and its everything you want in a P bass. The S-1 does change the tone but you'll decide pretty early on if you prefer one tone or the other - it is a P bass after all! Bump
