1. Sorry, me old mucker. I seem to have hi-jacked Waynes thread here. I'm happy with my set-up, and I got everything working the way I wanted by the "try it, and if it doesn't go BANG! it works" method. I was just telling Wayne that he wasn't the only one to suffer from a type of "word blindness" when someone is describing an easy (to them) way of sorting something out. It seems that Wayne and I have the same type of problem-show me a picture, or show me how to do it-sorted. Use words of which I have no conception of their meaning-panic! I don't actually think we are thick, it's just that if you have no idea what something is, there's no way you can envisage utilising it, therefore a "middle ground" has to be found. I wasn't getting at you personally, or anyone else on this site, as I've found us all to be an extremely helpful bunch, but just as an example from an earlier post-In that case you would need to use a 'stereo' or more accurately TRS jack at the sending end and connect the tip to the ring to link the signal through the socket. Same as you would do to use a mixer insert as a Direct Output (eg for sending to a PC/Recording Device) and still have the signal go through the channel. Easy enough to wire up. What the heck does that all mean? To someone who uses electrickery a lot, it probably IS easy to wire up, but to me??? Silly things (to you) like the difference between parallel and series wiring remain a mystery to a numpty like me. The diagrams look pretty, but when I look at speaker configurations in the back of a cabinet, I seriously cant tell the diffference-it's all spaghetti. RTFM!!! doesn't help much either. When I first got my 3630, it rambled on about "sidechains" and "stereo recording" and "signal differentials" and "twin channel outputs into two amplifiers" and the like. About as helpful as a chocolate fireguard to someone who had no intention of utilising any of these, so I plugged it in on one channel and turned the knobs until it got the sound I wanted. Not very scientific, I know, but it worked. I didn't want a tuner in the "chain of command" so I didn't bother plugging it in, which makes me of no use to Wayne whatsoever. Sorry for the rambling post, but please keep trying to find "the middle ground" where everyone can benefit from the knowledge that is so obviously present in this sites members.
2.
options are 1. bass goes to compressor goes to input on bass. with the tuner on the preamp out of the amp. 2. bass into amp, effects loop to the compressor with the tuner on the preamp out. It depends on the amp, if the effects loop is in parallel then you will have a clean and compressed signal running which will make the compressor kinda pointless. If its in series then it would work better. What model of amp is it? Archetype
"tuner on the preamp out of the amp?" "effects loop?" "tuner on the preamp out?" "if the effects loop is in parallel, then you would have a clean and compressed signal.....?" It sounds VERY impressive, but what does it all mean? You have absolutely no idea how thick I feel, when I don't have a CLUE what you're talking about, do you?
3.
Cheers buddy but I'll be honest I didn't understand any of that I'm starting to regret buying tbh.
I've been using a 3630 for the last 7 years, and I didn't understand it either. Do what I did Wayne-take it into a spare bedroom and plug things into things until it does what you want. It must be a resilient unit, because I haven't been able to blow it up yet.
4. You thought that was sarcasm? I was DEADLY serious. That's my dream Bass, and I'm trying to find a buyer for the Wife and Kids as we speak.
5. Sorry. I only got three numbers on the Lottery tonight, so I'll have to wait till Wednesday night to buy it.
6.
Whats the serial number?
STING1.
7.
Someone please buy this P bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-PRECISION-BAS...id=p3286.c0.m14 I don't have much money but I am very stupid and I will buy it
O.K. If you insist.
8.
Bit off topic but.. what exactly did you replace and with what? I'm curious because mine is probably gonna be backup soon, but still worth upgrading I think!
I was lucky enough to be offered a '72 Precision Pickup for silly money, and two gigs later a '69 Jazz Pickup for even less.(There was only one) They both went on, then a Badass, which was replaced with a Wilkinson, because it sounded better. (More sustain, funnily enough!) The original Machine Heads were becoming worn out, so I stuck a set of Grover Titans on it, and going out of tune is a thing of the past. Most of the time, I take it out of the case and it's still in tune from the last gig. It's had a Pro setup, and a quick fret dress, and that's it.
9.
Yep, I had a candy red one and it was an amazingly versatile instrument and very shoulder friendly too. I think BigAlonBass still uses one of these?
He certainly does, and after a little bit of an upgrade (Bridge, Pickups, etc.) it's the one I reach for every time. 'Course, mine's rather "relic'ed" now, after all the gigs it's been to, but I still wouldn't swap it.
10. The Bass Player always gets the best looking girl. Well-you said you wanted Fiction!
11. I mialed him, and he changed it. He didn't know the "rules" on evilbay. He reckons it has got twin rods as well.
12. "Back in the day" I used one of these, and the only thing that would cope with the output was a 4x12" 200 watt cab. A friend in a local Band STILL uses a 100 watt example, and it drives two 4x12" cabs up to rather astounding volumes with no farty noises whatsoever. (Edit for stupid spelling mistakes)
13.
I've had a similar problem with my AH350SMX. It's definitely the SMX 12 band pre-amp and clearly has a 350W power stage, but I can't find any information specific to it. There's the manual covering the AH300SMX and AH400SMX, but nothing on the 350. Weird.
Join the flipping club! I've had the same amp for the last 12 years, and in all that time, I haven't been able to find ANY information on it either. They don't exist, really.
14.
We all used Marshall back then, but the world of bass has moved on and they seem to have been left behind.
Yep. Sold mine as well. Not many people seem to want the "Old School" sound from a Bass these days.
15. Unfortunately, I think this is one you will have to work out yourself. Nobody on here has your ears, so it's difficult telling you how to get "your" sound. I had to do precisely what you are suggesting, and booked an extra hour at the rehearsal rooms, before the Band turned up. Even then, I still find myself making little "tweaks" at every Gig I play, because the acoustic qualities of the rooms tend to differ to some extent. I love my Trace, and when I finally got the sound I was looking for, nothing else seemed to come close. Enjoy the quest!
16. So many Basses, So little time! (and money)
17.
Looks like you are hanging out in an office while the accountants behind you get on with their work.
Oh, yes. The 'good old days' of Resident Bands in Working Mens Clubs. Everybody sat down!
18. Hofner Artist. It felt "right" when I tried it out in the shop, (I was only 13!) and it served me as my gigging Bass until I bought my first Precision 5 years later. Beware! Black and white '60's photography alert!
19. Pwhoaar!! All those strings, and a tremelo arm. New Model Jazz?????
20. I played one of these in a FREE Tribute Band, because I couldn't get away with the short scale on an EB3. It was NIIIIIICE! A lot more sounds available as well, but still a touch of neck-dive. Mine just had a boring black scratchplate, though.
21.
...fair enough... but which bloody ones???
As many as you can comfortably manage. Start with all the major scales, then when you've got these off pat, get fancier as the mood takes you. Running down a major scale (when you've got the space to do it) during a song, sounds pretty good, and impresses most guitards. Mind, it doesn't take much to keep THEM happy.
22. Sounding like you're out of tune means you are frying your ears with proximity and volume!!!!! Have a look around the Site for "earplugs" threads, and invest in a pair as soon as possible. You'll probably find that a decent pair will 'take the edge' off the higher frequencies in Guitar/Vocals/Drums as well, allowing you to hear yourself better. and no.....this is not an 'old fart' reply. This is from someone with severe tinnitus from years in Rock Bands. Protect your lugholes, you only get one pair.
