The band that really should work....But
KingPrawn replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
I didn't think it was. It wasn't my intention to divert it down that road either - I have no axe to grind either way (which I hope is clear from the ramblings in the rest of my post). It was just a thought that popped into my head as I finished writing the rest of it.
I agree completely. Thats why I quoted you. I'm with you 100%. I've really enjoyed the situation I'm in. That's why I posted the thread. -
Is there a concern about certain players having the dots in front of them in a live situation and how that makes the band look? It certainly seems to have been an area of controversy on this forum before.
There have been some really interesting responses. I hope the thread doesn't dip to the dots/ iPads etc on stage. That wasn't my intention. I think us muso's are far more critical of each other's than many we play for. We're determined to give it time and help each other reach our goal. It's been really interesting. I've always put classically trained players on a really high pedasol, which they still deserve. It's just this situation has levelled us out as for friends playing together -
What do the orchestral players play? Why can't they read (for the time being)?
That's what I thought. Aside from making the musical transition. There's a huge environmental change. We playing traditional Irish/ Celtic folk music, which is a passion we all share. I'm thinking it's such different worlds. -
I have found myself in a really odd situation. I'm involved with a band that has 3 other incredible players, two are classically trained and play day in day out orchestras etc. The lead singer is fab and decent guitarist. But.... There is a barrier in that the two highly trained players have to have the dots in front of them. They are really struggling to make the transition to learning a song without the dots. Equally the lead singer is struggling to get to grips with being handed lead sheets, as she is really an intuitive player. I find myself as piggy in the middle. I can just about hold my own with work between rehearsals. I really want it to work as when it gels it sounds great. Just wondering if any of you BCers have any tips to make this work? wheres the middle ground?

Afternoon I have for sale 1 Beg AE2x10's. In perfect working order. These cabs are as brilliant as their name implies. Responsive, loud and amazing low end definition. Ive been gigging them for 5 years as my main rig and can handle all styles of music. Both in really good condition and aside from a few chips are both working perfectly. Both have the berg covers. Only selling as I'm not needing to compete with massive Blackstar and Marshall amps any more so not getting any use. I AM UNABLE TO OFFER POSTAGE !! £385 I am based in Birmingham, so can meet locally. At this stage in my musical life I'd have to say: 1. People I can stand to be around 2. Level of nerdy knowledge 3. Musicality 4. Enjoyment
We banned ourselves from the Royal Oak (I think?) in Erdington, all our friends band's had their cars damaged outside and or a bar fight during the gig, we played there twice without a problem and decided the chances of playing a third without a serious issue was slim!
How did you ever fit in there? I've played trad Irish nights there. It's quite an experience

No brain for bass? MH issues and playing
KingPrawn replied to GreeneKing's topic in General Discussion
GreeneKing, Thank you for such a great post, I have been very absent from this forum for a while now, just having a dabble every now and then with it, this has mainly been due to having a diagnosed bout of depression and playing the bass guitar has just not been able for me really, to read what you had to say has inspired me to get myself in a gear and to get the bass out and get back on it. Hope all works well for you.
Good for you mate. You can always off load here. Your never alone. -

What a brilliant post! Thanks for sharing your experiences, I hope your diagnosis gives you an opportunity to make sense of your experiences. There's no question on the importance of music and its impact on trauma. It's a powerful tool and comfort to many. -
News like this is just so very sad. I can't imagine how his family and friends must feel. https://youtu.be/WZ3e8fvUIoI

Hello Sara It can be confusing. I'd check if the gig is supplying monitoring on stage, before spending to much. It's unusual to play somewhere and the PA supplier does not provide stage monitoring. A wireless guitar system, will only give you freedom to move around the stage. You will still need to send the signal from it somewhere. If you don't want the hassle of an amp. You should look at a preamp. This will at least give you give you some control over your tone, you could send you bass signal to it from your wireless system, then onto the main desk into the PA. Your IEM can run from a Signal from the main desk or (monitor desk depending on size of gig). You will then have a mix of your bass and whatever other instrument/ vocals you require. These are a good preamp/Di /Behringer-BDI21-V-Tone-Bass-Preamp I'm sure you'll get lots of advice from the BC. Massive

Help with Live sound and home studio survey
KingPrawn replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
Done. Doesn't take long, and is interesting enough, for those that do home recording or studio work. A pleasant, non-stuffy, approach to surveys.
Appreciate your time, and far superior description -
Hello all If you have a spare 5 mins could you take this Survey. It's for my bro studying in the states. Thanks in advance https://www.surveylegend.com/survey/#/d29yZHByZXNzMjQyMjI=~-KjA2U7VSIhWQ8i__MAs
As is not giving a f*** about whether somebody has good reason to be upset or offended by something it would appear.
Well said! What is it about people who don't mind using negative terms to describe others. If someone is offended by a comment you make, be it deliberately or otherwise don't blame them for being offended by your comments. It's well evidence that these brave people only feel free, whilst there fingers are on a keypad and they are not confronted by the impact of their comments and how they make others feel. " I don't mind offending others as long as they are not in my presence, as I wouldn't want to offend anyone" SFC
