Thomann have the SR300 for £210 at the moment

My last band (a covers band) ended a couple of months ago. It was a long drawn out process to be honest. It was the best band I'd been in, very driven, professional attitude, good musicianship, all despite relatively little gigging experience from 2 or 3 of us. We put masses of time into the band in just 4 months, did one gig had several lined up, then the singer announces she was moving away. Finding a replacement for her was impossible, she was one of the best singers in the area. Then the drummer and guitarist fell out and that was that. I haven't touch a bass in over 2 months. It has shown me though how much time bands consumed and with a young family how much time I shouldn't have been spending doing band stuff. Hopefully I can get a better balance with any new band
Sounds like a decent project to pursue Marv, hope it works out for you. What sort of music will it be?
It's described as Alternative, Indie, Punk, Garage, Rock - all originals. It's not my usual kind of thing but I'm actually very keen to get in the band.
We do want to gig, and will. It's just that money isn't the main driving force.
I'm, hopefully, going to be auctioning for a band later this month and money is not the motivator. The band have played some decent gigs at known venues supporting some known and up and coming bands. I'd like to be in on that

Removing sticker gloop, white spirit of surgical spirit then warm water and fairy liquid. Works a treat.

The early 90's Korean Squiers don't have standard 'Fender'pickguards. They are a slightly different shape and the screw holes are in a marginally different location. Where the stickers haven't been it's aged nicely to an off white.
I think that I may be in a similar situation later this week - our (lazy b4stard) guitar left recently - we practiced for 2 hours on a Sunday - he couldn't commit to this - got one of my mates to replace him but he's been pretty unreliable too - expecting this to come to an end soon. Shame really as the drummer is not afraid of hitting the skins....
Start a new band with the drummer?
I saw him on later, thought he looked like he hadn't slept for about a month.
Probably read this thread and hasn't slept stressing about how to improve his playing

Any suggestions of good simple basslines to learn?
You never heard the bass at the start of F1 & thought "oooh, I'm gonna try that"?
Ummmm, hmmmm. No -
We're a dying breed. Some kids laughed at me in the street the other day - for carrying a newspaper.
They wouldn't be laughing if you clipped around the back of the head with said newspaper ...you can't do that with a mobile device.

I can put up with screw ups and stuff to some extent if the effort and attitude to be professional is there

I was going to say go with the flow, but then I thought about the gigs I've enjoyed and the ones I haven't. The gigs I've had a blast at are the ones where I've had absolute confidence in the people up on stage with me. At the minimum as ezbass says your front man needs more rehearsal in gig mode (but that's what I've always regarded rehearsals as) I used to jump at any band, so desperate to be in a band and to play. However, after several years of doing that I've got to the stage where I've realised most bands are a waste of time and would rather bide my time than just be in something for the sake of it. When the band I contacted recently gets back in touch eventually I'll be saying I've changed my mind...take too long to get back to me, that's not good in my books. Having the same standards and approach is the only way it works for me

All sounded the same. Any differences were far too small. -
The first bassline I ever played was The Chain by Fleetwood Mac (is there a bassist who hasn't? )
Me. I never learnt how to play The Chain -
If you mean by placing drivers side by side, where comb filtering is concerned they should not be more than one wavelength center to center. With a pair of tens set 11 inches center to center that's 1.2kHz, right smack dab in the middle of the midrange. From there on up comb filtering will occur. Even below that frequency side by side drivers has an effect. The dispersion angle below the 1 wavelength center to center distance is more than halved compared to a single driver. At 100Hz, where dispersion is nominally 360 degrees anyway, that's not an issue. At 800 Hz, where dispersion of a single driver may be 180 degrees or less, it's not the best scenario. If I was to make a .5 alignment using tens I'd low pass the second driver around 500Hz. Since some 75% of the power bandwidth lies below 500Hz there's no need to use both drivers higher than that.
Thanks Bill
It's not rock-solid, but it's stable enough. So far I've only used in a spacious rehearsal room, so I don't know how it'll fare in a confined space where I might bump into it!
cheers
Here's the pic from the other thread again, TC 210 on a Stagg GAS-4.2 amp stand:
Do you find that to be a sturdy set up? The cab doesn't wobble about does it? The TC210 is a similar size to my combo so i was thinking of getting one (stand that is )
Generally it's a bad idea.
Why's it a bad idea? Apart from the example of a keyboard stand which always looks highly unstable
That it would. It's not a flaw. There's even a name for that driver configuration, the W-M-M-W, altough in this case the Ms (midrange) would be full range, not pure midrange, drivers. It would be, which is why I have never promulgated that notion. But it's all a matter of scale. While no sensible bass rig would ever be large enough for low frequencies to be affected in a major way by horizontal versus vertical placement, it could be a concern with a large PA system. A dozen or more large subs arranged side by side across the front of a stage would be an example, unless it was the operators intent in so doing to limit the horizontal dispersion of the array.
Turning to a 210 bass cab, not the BF retro as that's a bit different. At what sort of frequency does dispersion become an issue for a 210 cab? And how important are these frequencies, if at all, to most bass player's tone? I have a 210 combo at present so would be interested to know. A previous 210 combo I had I used to stand on a table for gigs. The speakers were aligned horizontally and seemed to work for me getting it up off the ground. My current combo has the drivers more or less vertically aligned.

I watched Muse's performance on iPlayer and they are undeniably a great rock band, whether you like their music or no, they do 'it'. I'm not a big Muse fan, I like some of their material but not all. Chris Wolstenholme is a great bass player and a very good musician

I think it just demonstrates that tone preferences are a very personal thing.
