  1. Interesting anecdote. I played the first bass Ian Waller built. It was a Salmon Pink P Bass copy, weighed a ton and you could drive a bus under the strings. We went to the same school, although he was about 3-4 years ahead of me. In the early 60's he played in a local band, sorry "group" as they were called in those days, called The Wailers with Derek Leckenby and Barry Whitham and I was in the same class as Lek's brother Colin. As a teenager it was customary in those days to play guitar and Colin brought Wal's bass round to mine on a couple of occasions. Ian was very well known in Manchester and earned the handle "Big Wal" as he was rather chunky so when Derek Leckenby and Barry Whitham were asked to join the newly formed Herman's Hermits, who had just secured a recording contract, Big Wal was left out in the cold as he wasn't considered easy on the eye and svelte enough for HH. He went on to join Remo Sands and the Spinning Tops and I was in a band the borrowed their roadie and van quite a lot. He was a stonking bass player and he built various pedals for Spinning Tops, electronics being his love.
  2. Sort of. There used to be an Abakhan branch locally and I went there first, hi but they didn't have any colours I wanted so I made a note of the type of vinyl I wanted and ordered online in the shade I wanted. When it came it was actually better quality than they had in the shop.
  3. Yep, more of the same is the way to go.
  4. Try fabric sellers like Abakhan. I got some beautiful burgundy vinyl from them to cover a cab. Very reasonable as well and great quality.
  5. If you can get a high res picture of the tort you want, a mate of mine can print it on vinyl for you. He did some for me but the pic wasn't sharp enough.
  6. Why not speak to ACG, @skelf , and see what he can do? Assuming it's a bolt on neck, detach and send it to him. Alan retro fitted luminlay fret markers on two of my ACG's and I just sent the necks.
  7. My favourite band of all time, Tower of Power, crank out an occasional instrumental. Time for some Squib Cakes.
  8. A bit of Northern Soul from Willie Mitchell.
  9. There is a world register, of sorts. I'm away at the moment but will post details when back in the UK. Not sure how much weight it would have legally, but could have the desired effect if needed.
  10. Looking at the Aria and it's spec, it does look like a rebadging job. Even down to the Wilkinson bridge.
  11. A Carbon Wrap on that pickguard would look great. I did just that with a bass that was a very similar blue. Looked awesome and only a few £.
  12. Done. Hope it helps. Couple more typos. It's Lakland and I suspect Peavey for brands.
  13. Here's my storage solution. The aluminium case I got from Maplin some time ago to house another amp. Fits the Rootmaster, footswitch, mains cable and speaker cables perfectly. Think it was about £25 and was filled with cut away foam. The footswitch isn't an Ashdown one. I checked with Dave Green and the footswitch is pretty standard make/break across tip/sleeve and ring/sleeve so I got this Neewer one, an NW-202 and it works a treat. It was £14.99 from Amazon. I didn't know if the led's would work so disabled them.
  14. It's a Bourns PDB182. Depends whether you want 500/250k, solid or split shaft but all variations are there from WD Music.
  15. They did make a rack mountable head so the combo version may have the fixings already in place to mount rack ears and then it should fit a 2u rack case. I've got a really nice amp sleeve that Mike Walsh, Zoot Bass, made for me. It may fit that in the way you describe.
  16. There are quite a few pre-amps that come configurable, ie the pre-amp capsule with a bunch of wires and you can wire whatever pots and switches you like. Bartolini, Aguilar, Darkglass to name a few, but none give you a passive tone control option as standard. That said you can add a passive tone to any pre-amp but that would be an additional pot. You could use a stacked pot for 2 of the bass/treble/middle controls and then add the passive tone that would work in active or passive mode.
  17. I would suggest a Glockenklang 3 band, which does everything you asked for but the active/passive is a pull/push on the volume control so would leave a hole. I've got Glock's in 3 basses and love them.
  18. Shame it's only for iphones.
  19. Wembley Loudspeakers should be able to repair it. Likely to be cheaper than a replacement from HK, if you can even get one, and better than putting a different speaker in.
  20. Ashdown have the best customer service in the business. They will repair any amp they have ever made and usually for a very reasonable fee or free. They offer a 5yr warranty on their amps. I've used a Viper setup in a rehearsal room and was somewhat underwhelmed. An Ashdown rig, ABM/MAG/Rootmaster would blow it out of the water in imho.
  21. My solution using the IKEA laptop stand. I modified it a bit 🙂 Removed some of the larger plastic lip and trimmed it round the cab corners. Works a treat. The larger lip curves back on itself a little and is perfect for hooking over the front of the cab but I didn't like it covering the grill and speaker, hence the "mod".

  23. Real Electronics are the authorised repairers of MB products and here are their charges: £35 to diagnose the problem, which you get back if you go ahead. £69 fixed labour, £18 courier fee to send it back + parts. I am pretty sure they don't repair to component level. It's likely to be north of £200 which is why I didn't get my SA450 repaired.
  24. I use one of these: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/braeda-laptop-support-black-60150176/ Just sits on top of the cab with the shorter edge over the front of the cab and Bob's year whatsit.
