2. cool stuff. Having a drummer that grooves is a huge bonus eh?!?! Like it all though, nice tone on your bass. Seem real tight with the drummer, and like your singers voice. On all the songs. Think my favourite is Scarlet Blue for what its worth. Very cool!!
3. New song we added that people seem to love is "sweet disposition" by Temper track. I think its because people dont expect bands to cover it. We have no keyboard player, but our guitard plays with decay and to be fair to him, sounds pretty good. Always see peoples faces light up when they realise what it is. Stupidly easy on bass too
4. In respect of all these threads, just wanted to say cheers for putting the time in. Theyve all helped me a load and im sure others are in the same boat! Thanks again
5. Coulda done with filling in the blanks a bit. A little too simple for my ear............ Cracking mate, obviously very gifted and technical video. Should try loop some of the chord sequences off that and play quite a simple solo over the top. Think that would sound cool! IMO anyway!
6. I bought John Alfonso Iturra bass. Great bloke to deal with. Even helped me out by sending it early. Dont think twice if your buying off John, hes a gem kert
7. You can be a great player without theory for sure. But if you are, learning a bit of theory will definitly make you even better. IMO anyway. Definitly "opened doors" for me
8.
When playing with my fingers, I've always found string skipping difficult. The classic example is Immigrant song where you play F# and the octave in quick succession. I can't help but hit the A string for some reason. Any tips for dealing with that? And muting - well, I always seem to leave strings ringing. Especially since I've got brighter strings. How can I improve so that when I remove my finger, it doesn't "hammer off", but mutes more effectively? I find myself having to palm mute all the time. Also, I've noticed that I can play better with my index fingernail than I can with a plectrum or with my fingers. I hold my hand in the position as if I'm holding a plectrum, but I use my fingernail instead. It sounds full and I can play very fast (although all downstrokes, no "alternate picking"), but I'm worried I could damage my fingernail. Although I've been playing like this for a while and it doesn't seem to be doing any damage. The reason I started playing like this was because after 30 minutes or so of playing with a plectrum, my thumb starts getting sore. Perhaps there's a better way to hold it. Thanks guys
Hi mate. Not really got any advice on the first part of your question. Im sure everyone finds this technique pretty tricky at first. And i know it probably wont be of much help, but practise was what helped me! Maybe a lesson with a teacher would help you? If you can get up close enough to see what he is doing, you could pick-up on technique, and im sure he could give you tips etc as thats what they do eh?! Muting is all down to preference i think. I play with my fingers (not a plec) so i mute with the finger following behind the note playing finger, whichever one that might be at the point in the line that needs muting. Hope that makes sense to you. Aagain practise makes perfect!! As for using your fingernail.... i know i couldnt do it! Doesnt it rip the skin off the bottom of your nail??? By no means is it wrong to do that though. Do whatever you feel comfortable with, and creates "your sound". I just think that maybe you should try learning to play fingerstyle ASWELL, so it gives you more options. Just my bit of input, im sure some more knowledgable players will be along soon Hope it helps, even if only a little Kert

13.
Hi all, The band I'm in are looking to do "The Riverboat Song" by Ocean Colour Scene at some point, which led me to digging out my copy of "Moseley Shoals". Damon Minchella's bass playing on that album is really tasteful, & I really like the tone he gets from his Fender Jazz & (I think) a Gibson EB3. Anyone else here rate him? Cheers, iamthewalrus
This is the song im getting about learning now. Cant omment on other songs, because i havent heard many others, but i like his playing on this song!!

16.
The only video of my playing is on my band's music video. Opinions would be appreciated! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APvdAyZBXMk
I liked it, not my type of music really, but i watched it all the way through and enjoyed it, and enjoyed the video, and enjoyed the playing. Nothing negative to say! Sounds/looks good to me bro. And im sure if thats your kinda taste in music youd love it even more! kert
17. Never seen these before. lovely looking bass, just a little out of my price range unfortunately. Have a bump for a gorgeous bass
18. you can get a Fender PBass deluxe series.Picture of one example here : http://www.zzounds.com/item--FEN135762 It has a Jazz neck, J Pup at the bridge and P Pups at the neck, which you can sweep between to chose your tone. Active 3EQ. Can get them pretty cheap too. I just sold one recently and im regretting it. Great bass, and so so versatile! Maybe an option for you? kert
19.
Also does a tribute have to look like the band in question? It's always struck me as being a bit sad, trying to ACTUALLY look like a famous artist... Any thoughts? My current covers band is heading in a direction I don't particularly like.
Id say you dont have to look exactly the same, but you should try and make an effort to resemble him. If its the way you stand or the clothes you wear etc. I went to watch an AC/DC tribute act called something like Thunderstruck, everyone looked great, even though their "Angus" was a 6ft 3, 18 odd stone black dude. Because he dressed in what youd expect to see Angus in, and his playing style/stance was bang on, it didnt matter he looked nothing like Angus (physically), and went down great. So id say its not everything, but if you can do something that will remind people who your meant to be, all the better
20.
Here is my (well, soon to be my) Chris Larkin custom that my girlfriend had built for me for christmas.
