1. Dunno, that whole '20% bigger than a T-bird' thing means they must be pretty massive in the body. The natural one on the BD site is very very nice, tho.
2. YMCA Croydon? Mrs Terrible's boarding house, Herne Bay?...........Mornington Crescent!
3. Yeah, 'shopped to death - look where her feet are, combined with the position of her shoulders. Either that, or she can stand in four dimensions...
4.
...but to mind the best "Fender upgrade" bridge ever is....the Schaller 3D
This, especially if you rest the heel of your hand on the bridge. And the ease of lateral adjustment for iffy pickup positioning.
5.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned these Washburn/board B-20 monstrosities with their hideous triangular necks. Very horrible indeed!
I had an 8-string one of them back in the 80s, I loved it at the time, but it had the most vicious neck-dive of anything I've ever picked up. Keep thinking I'd like another, but I'm suspecting that's nostagia talking...
6. Completely stress-free transaction with Rich (despite the couriers getting the bass to within 200 yards of me, then delivering it somewhere else!), lovely bass, very well packed and the fastest I've ever had a bass arrive. Cheers Rich!
7. Very very sad. The Ship Canal's a hell of a way from Heaton Park, mind.
8. I get all the sound I need from my 38lb cab (it IS a 2x15, tho), don't miss my big rig at all. It's about the tones, and I has 'em. I doubt you'd ever find a pic of my rig on any 15-year-old's wall, but then I'm not trying to impress 15-year-olds any more.
9. There's a Roland D-Bass 115 for sale on here at the mo which is in your budget, they're a great combo, definitely giggable, and not too heavy either. The ad's nowt to do with me, but I had one (and the 115 powered extension for a stacktastic setup) for a while, and it's a very underrated amp. Mine was nicked, I might still have had it had this not happened.
10. Just lovely. I'd thought my ABZ had killed off my bass-GAS (other than novelty buys like 8-strings, obviously). It appears I was wrong.
11. Mine's a regular T-bird! There's some pics somewhere...
12. Oh my Lord, I've just seen this. Fantastic. I'd posted on the Dingwall forum about ABs with maple necks, but not had much back. Wowsers, can't wait to see it finished.
13. Yep, John McVie plays some lovely understated stuff, great rhythm section. Billy Sheehan once said "My job in the band is to make everyone else sound good." , although I suspect his tongue may have been firmly in his cheek at that point...
14. For preference, hi-hat side, tho if I'm depping or generally getting paid, I go where I'm told...

Bonham

Never liked Zeppelin much, despite being an ageing rocker, never liked Bonham, hate that slack-arsed sound. Someone once said he sounded like someone falling down the cellar stairs carrying a load of boxes, and I never got that out of my head.
16. Lovely - Jon's course is on my bucket list, pretty near the top.
17. There's a very unusual 8-string Masterman on Gumtree, but it's at an eye-watering price...
18. I found I never liked the sound of my Ray with my LMIII, I think it's a combination which just didn't work. My other basses sounded much better. Have you tried any other basses through the MB?
19. It depends on how you'd approach the project: if you'd enjoy doing it, go for it - you may find you'll end up with just what you want, with a personal investment in the process and instrument at the end, which can be very rewarding. I've modded several basses now, and I've found it's addictive: off-the-shelf cookie-cutter basses don't interest me all that much these days. If you're building it to sell, fair enough, you'll never recoup your money, but if you're going to start considering your hourly rate doing something you like, I'd suggest that's massively missing the point. Oh, and if you buy a Gibson, you might want to look at changing the bridge for a much superior Hipshot Supertone...and that's how it starts...
20. Have you played a Fortress at all Karl? I've got one you could try - different pickups, but you'd get the feel of it.
21. Nice bass, ropey vocals.
22. About par for the course at the moment, really - a possibly-seven year old dinged P-Bass with a damaged case. I've bought for less (and more) and sold for a bit more, but every one I've had has been in better nick. There's good Precisions and bad ones, too, and I think people factor that in when buying sight unseen from EBay. You can get a bass of at least equal quality (does that mean 'top table'?) from Warwick for a good chunk less these days, which is even more depressing.
23. Erm...yes...
24. Just popped over to Karl's to look at a bass - thorough gent, nice basses, top brew and very special biscuits! Deal with confidence, he's one of the good guys.
