1. Lookin' good Jake and I didn't think I'd say this but now I've seen it in the flesh, I quite like the blingygoldness. Ta for another smooth M62 car park rendezvous.
2. I've just put the round cores on my Rebop and I'm flabbergasted. I've always sworn by DR Sunbeams but not any more. These Hotwires are absolutely brilliant and worth every penny. Sorry no time to talk, gotta let the neighbours hear the difference.
3.
Have you got any of the built-in FX switched on ? Check through the menus and switch off everything just to make sure it's not one of the FX set to a wierd setting.
Ahem   you were right BOD2. Thanks
4. You know me so well
5.
Great news about the band success. I did the British Blues Festival in Trescore, near Milan, last year. They are very organised in Europe. The promoter sent over the tickets and ran us around while we were there. They paid for the hotel, food and drink. And they also sent me a Christmas Card!
Thanks for that Chris - I've been a bit concerned about that and I'm glad someone else is paying
6. Bloody hell - how stupid am I? I've been using the thing every day for the last 3 years and I never realised it had a reset button. I'll put my glasses on and have a butcher's tonight.
7. It breaks my heart to say it Russ, but I think my Euro may have to go soon anyway if my shoulder gets any worse - it's too heavy and the pain's stopping me from sleeping as well as I need to. I'm using my Rebop for the moment cos as you know, it's a lot lighter but even through a small combo it was a bit too edgy for what we were doing. I dunno, I'm not in a hurry to do anything - I'll just see how things pan out.
8. I'd like one with a mute switch and a tighter jack socket.
9. I don't Paul - but that's another issue
10. Will do Dave
11. A few weeks ago, I was approached about auditioning for a blues band and after the initial phone call, didn't hear any more. In the meantime, I joined another band and thought no more about it. Last Thursday, I got a call from the drummer of the blues band asking me to come down to their studio in Manchester on Saturday for a get together / jam. I'd already told him that I'd never played blues on bass and asked if he could give me some songs to learn in preparation but he told me to just bring a bass and see what happens. It soon became apparent that the reason he'd not given me any songs to learn was because they write all their own stuff but I settled in ok just walking around some basic blues stuff I'd learned. To cut a long story short, they liked what I did and I got the job. They asked if I was available to cut a demo in about 3 weeks time so I said no problem. I asked them what they had in mind for the band (like a lot of blues musos, they all have a few projects on the go) and they said that they wanted to get up and gigging asap and do a few festivals this summer. There was talk of doing the British stage at Colne in August and then someone asked about whether "...we were too late for Pistoia (Italy)?" and the keyboard player said "..yes we are but we'll be ok for Sweden" and then I got to thinking, who the hell pays for that? I had a word with the missus and she's fine about it so now, after being a bit trepidatious, I'm really excited about it. I've always wanted to play some blues and can't wait to get going. Perhaps I'll finally be able to use a Precision without someone complaining about it. Happy days.
12. Something strange going on with my Tascam Bass Trainer - every time I play or note or touch the strings for that matter, I get a feint whoosh in my headphones. It sounds just like (sea) waves lapping up on the beach (and no, I haven't been smoking) and comes and goes with each note. I've tried different headphones / leads but it still does it. Any ideas?
13. As Forest Gump once said...stunning is as stunning does. Yum yum Steve - one of the nicest looking instruments I've seen in a long time.
14. Ah divvent kna but If I'm not rehearsing, I might have a run over A66
15. I'm getting well used to mine now - it makes sense to me and I'm thick.
16. +1 for me too - I've spoken to Dan a coupla times. They're top draw. Nice bass Nick
17. Some of my favourites.. I Wish - Stevie Wonder Ricky don't lose that number - Steely Dan Sex Machine - James Brown Bodhisattva - Steel Dan What's Going On - Marvin Gaye Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
18. Steve - you're slooooooooooowly killing me - I can't decide whether I want the Celinder or the Sadowsky and I can't afford either. I'm in agony here
19.
Oh Jesus, and there I was just about to order a J-Retro Deluxe to fit to my Warmoth Jazz (with Nordstrand NJ4SE's). Now this has just thrown me completely! Anyone tried them both?
Yup me. I've had two Laklands with J-Retros in (one a Deluxe) - I sold one bass pretty quickly and took the J-Retro out of the other preferring the passive sound of the bass. I now have the ACG02 in my Spector and yes, it takes some getting used to but it's worth it. They're both excellent products that use different approaches but I'm now saving my pennies for another ACG02 for my other Spector - says a lot really.
20. Thanks for the offer Al, I might take you up on that one day. My dodgy hip - caused by playing squash for 25 years is arthritic so I guess it's possible my shoulder may be on its way too. Time to make an appointment with the doc / osteopath and leave the Euro in its case for a while. I don't want to sell it but I don't want it to gather dust either.
21. Money - Pink Floyd Almost anything by Sting
22. I always use a Comfort Strapp or the Brooklyn equivalent - I think I'll go and see my osteopath first and see what happens. Thanks to everyone for their kind suggestions - I particularly liked Joe's but the only trouble is, if I follow his advice and buy that Sadowsky, I won't be able to afford an osteopath. ...oh fook, don't laugh it hurts..
23. I'm not a fan of doctors - well mine anyway and I'll only take pills as a very last resort. I see an osteopath occasionally for my dodgy hip and maybe he could help I dunno. I just wonder if I'm gonna have this permanently if I play a heavy bass.
24. I've been suffering with my (strap) shoulder for quite a long time now and I fear the aches and pains are getting worse and starting to creep down my arm. It's quite debilitating - I daren't lift anything too heavy and have difficulty raising my outstretched arm any higher than parallel to ground. Usually when I'm playing in my den, I play my very light Spector Reop and it's not too bad but recently, I upgraded the preamp in my - lets be honest, heavy LX5 and I've been playing that constantly which is probably why my shoulder is fooked. Anyone else have a sore shoulder? Does it go away? Do I need to get shut of my LX5?
25. I think it should start at 11.00 - we could play bass for an hour and then go and shoot a guitarist. We could come back and have some lunch, play bass until 2.00 and then go out and shoot another guitarist. More bass until 3.00, then a cup of tea and we'll go out and shoot a squirrel. Did you ask - "Why a squirrel and not a guitarist?" THAT is the right attitude. Sorry I'll get my fur coat.
