1. That's really nice OHM - I'd love something like that myself. Top gear GB
2. Hoping to have my Spector Euro 5LX with me c/w newly installed ACG02 preamp if anyone's interested in trying it. I've got spare seats in my motor if anyone wants a lift. My route will be along the A59 from Preston all the way to Harrogate - I don't mind a small deviation from the route to pick someone up but no piss takers please .
3. Ordered mine and hopefully it will be making an appearance in my Spector Euro 5LX at the Yorkshire Bash.
4. I've just ordered an ACG 02 preamp for my Spector so if anyone is in the market for a new preamp, my 6 month old Spector Tone Pump is up for sale - £25 delivered.
5. I think I'm going to have to go down to a 125 - bloody stupid when you cant use a standard gauge string on a £1500 bass. There's no problem with my Rebop
6.
Mmm, I might be interested in something like that. Where'd you get it? And how for how much?
Not sure if you mean the whole rig but if you do, you're looking at about £1600-1700 new if you have the footswitch for the head (as I do) and about £600 for the cab on it's own. I bought what you see in the photo used in mint condition for about a grand. Money very well spent. By the way, the head runs at 2 ohms and I'm so tempted to hear what it would sound like with a second 2x12 - now that would be a proper rig.
7. I'm having a problem getting a 130 B string to fit in the bridge slot of my Spector Euro LX5. My preferred DR Sunbeams wouldn't fit so I did a bit of careful filing and afterwards the B string went in with a bit of persuasion but sounded a bit dead. I tried an EB Slinky 130 and it was exactly the same. So I thought bugger this and emailed PJ at Spector to try and buy a new bridge at a discount price because I think it's not designed properly if it won't accept 2 different, popular makes of string. He tells me that the ones they have are exactly the same. So I have to change strings but don't want to drop to a 125 B. Anybody got any recommendations or suggestions? Ta very glad.
8. I started with a Trace Elliott 150 watt 1x15 combo - I couldn't hear it 'round my knees to then I got a Trace Elliott AH300 + a TE 4x10 cab. Nice rig but weighed a frigging ton, so I bought a Little Mark II and used that with the 4x10 for a while and sold that to buy two new Aggie GS112s - a rig that I was entirely happy with. Then I saw an Epifani UL310 for sale - had to have it so I sold the Aggies and bought that (still using the LMII) A mate of mine and ex-forum member mikeh wanted to try the UL310 with his GK1001RBII so I let him and it sounded great so....guess what I old the LMII and bought a GK1001RBII. I fancied trying the GK neo cabs thinking they'd go well with the GK head so I foolishly sold my EpiUL310 and bought a GK 212 neo adding a 1x12 a little later - big mistake. I hated the sound so I sold the bloody lot and bought my first pre/power rig - an EBS Classic Pre / QSC 3100 power amp and an Epifani NYC 212 cab - a truly monstrous rig........er that was very heavy. about a month later, I swapped the cab for 2 Bergantino 112s with the previous owner cos he missed the NYC212. I got fed up with the faff of a pre/power unit so I sold it and went back to a LMII - a nice rig with my 2 Bergies....but GAS struck again when a Genz Benz 212 NEOX came up for sale so I bought that and sold the Bergies. Then I bought a Genz Benz GBE 750 when one came up to go with the NEOX 212 and so arrived at my present rig (below) and I can say with fear of contraception that it's easily the best rig I've had so far. Somewhere in amongst that lot I had a Schroeder 410R but I'm fooked if I can remember where it came in the order but it was a superb cab that weighed far too much for my fragile back I sold it.

10.
Ouch - caps lock too intense!
Never mind the CAPS, for that price I'd want to see a hand-written post. Good luck with the sale - stunning bass
11. ..and how much oxygen is left in the tank?
12. Luvvly jubbly mewsie - sounds like you had fun and I hope there's plenty more
13.
For a "British" sound, try a red squirrel. Again free but not so plentiful (although you might get lucky near Formby Point)
I've heard all the red squirrels are either dead or dying at Formby Point
14.
As said, it's imperative to pick up and play the bass. I'm sure that any of the pro bass builders on here will tell you it's easy to make a badly made expensive bass and also make a well made cheap bass .
Wise words Hamster
15. I had a Pee in that very loch myself once ....sorry Anndra
16. I've had several MIAs (4), a couple of CIJs (3) and one Mexican P. In my experience, the quality of Fenders varies so much, you really have to try them - and with an open mind (forget the country of origin). Find a good MIA and they're truly superb BUT there are a lot of crap ones around too IME. It is perfectly possible to find a Mexican bass that pisses all over an American one too - the best P I ever had was Mexican so I never look down my nose at them. The Japanese ones are the most consistent in quality / playability / sound IME and if I was buying over the internet without trying, it would Jap every time. Hope that helps.
17. No gig last night - had to cancel it because the guitarist was too ill . At the last minute, he sent a very long text telling us about his stomach bug that he'd had all week and asking me to call the gig and give them the bad news. He couldn't do it himself for some reason so I sent a text back saying I couldn't do it either cos I'd lost my voice...ahem. So he text'd me back saying he'd get his wife to do it. Next thing, I get a text from the singer telling us that the gig was cancelled and the guitarist had asked him to cancel it. That's at least 3 text messages asking other people to do the dirty work for him. Too ill to ring the gig? Er...let's hope it's nothing serious like cholera, ebola or black water fever
18. I've got a suitable box but Sainsburys are out of possum - any ideas?
19. Yep £600 is about right - lovely bass.
20.
Great looking rig Al!
Thanks a lot - it is a stunning rig
21. Nice example - I think you'll probably stand a better chance of selling it if you give some idea of how much you're looking for. Good luck with the sale, someone's gonna get a nice bass.
22.
They are only coming because we have a better class of sheep this side of t'hills
I'll bring my wellies then
23.
Hi Alan, are there any blues jams in your area? I would go along and try out what you have learned. If you screw up it won't matter, just make a few adjustments and keep going back until you're happy with what you are playing. I know a couple of good guitarists who are coming along to our jams to practise their singing and they are getting better every time.
Good idea Chris - I'll have to make some enquiries sir Have to say - this is all good stuff this fellas. Thanks.
24. Well - has it arrived yet?
25.
I am no expert, although I love blues, but I am probably a bit too busy too. Couple of thoughts which may sound a bit whacky First think about being the rhythm engine - your job is to be rock solid with the drummer absolutely seamless practice alongside some tracks and try to think like a drummer (do drummers think?) or think how you can make your bass sound more like the drum kit? Experiment with that plectrum as well. Second try some slow blues (Need Your Love So Bad - was the one that helped me) and for this concentrate on perfecting the tone and timing for each note. Good luck with the band thing by the way.
Thanks Jon
