1.
Babbit's bassline is particularly stunning when you compare it to the original record. I guess he had a long time to refine it.
Agreed stevie. I don't particularly like the song but I love playing BB's bassline.
2. My sentiments exactly - well said that man from Stockport.
3. Heatwave my arse - we do that in our set and it's nowt like that. I learned the bassline from Standing in the Shadows of Motown - Babbitt plays a bit of it solo as well as the performance.
4. I'm with bass_ferret, you need to think of spending a lot more than that IMHO. If you're on a budget, why go the pre/power route anyway?
5. Just curious CJBASS which Genz Benz amps you've tried (not having a go my friend ). It's just that I've got a GBE 750 and it is without doubt the best sounding, most versatile, most well made amp I've ever tried / owned. I realise it's probably a case of each to his own etc but I think Genz Benz are probably the most under rated product out there.
6. Labella flats are superb IMO but I've never had a any luck with them - I've had 3 sets and all of them had a duff E string. If you're lucky enough to get a perfect set - they would be my first choice.
7. Big +1 for TI Jazz flats.
8. Hey Anndra - very nice but I wouldn't buy a guitar with a crack in the neck
9. I know Dal well - he does good work and he used to look after my guitars (set ups / upgrades etc) before I switched to bass.
10. I recorded it when it was shown about 6 months ago and I've watched it at least 20 times. Tal's a great bassist - I love the faces she pulls, cute.
11. Thanks fellas - I always use it with the tone pots rolled completely off. The 'switch' route sounds interesting but that won't cure one of my other dislikes - two volume controls - I'd rather just have a master volume and a blend pot if I possibly can. I've been using my Rebop 5 a lot more lately and apart from the very soothing benefit of reduced weight that my shoulder enjoys, I actually prefer the tone / lower output. TBH I think that's half the problem, cos whenever I switch back to the Euro, it's a bit like getting out of my Mondeo and driving a Dodge Viper with the traction control off.
12. I've been thinking of changing the preamp in my Spector LX5 after reading the "Tone Dump" thread on Talkbass. I just find the Tone Pump a bit raw and too hot for some songs. Yesterday, I tried a Warwick Streamer 6 in PMT in Manchester and it sounded sweeter and a lot more 'musical' to my ears so I've now made my mind up to go ahead and change the preamp. Trouble is, it's difficult to make your mind up which one to go for. I'm thinking of buying either the EMG BQC System or the ACG 02 but to be honest, I'm not that convinced about either for various reasons. Anyone got any comments / advice for me before I take the plunge? PS - I take back whatever I said about Warwicks - I'd be very happy with that Streamer 6 I tried.
13. Dark and disturbingly beautiful
14. Big gulp Stu... I'm all weak at the knees. What's the lead time now?
15. Sounds lovely Peter - I thought I was GAS free but not any more...
16. Howdy pby, For £450, I'd be looking for a secondhand Fender US Jazz or a Japanese Reissue (just as good IMHO). A Jazz'll just about do anything and (unless you're like me) will stay with you for a long time. You can always upgrade bits as you go as the bits are readily available and not too expensive.
17. I think we should just blow up parliament - presumably there's a law against that too. Signed.
18.
Well AL i've pulled the trigger on one and I will guarentee you WILL get the sound you want out of one of Alan's creations. Best part is I'm not paying for it either. Happy days.
Ahhh good man Stu. I've always wanted one since I saw and played Pedro's previous ACG and took the first steps exchanging emails with Alan but I backed down when he hold me how long it would be 'in make'. I told him that i didn't know what I liked in a bass and that I'd probably sell it before it was finished and left it at that. However, I've given up alcohol (temporarily) and ridiculously strong coffee so it's possible that I may calm down sufficiently and develop the necessary patience to order one. It'd be a Recurve 5 S/C for me. Sexy.
19. Spiffnifficent Pedro - I'm going to have to take the plunge methinks.
20. Excellent Pedro - can't wait to see the pics
21.
Slighty OT but what KOL stuff are you doing?? We're doing a couple of KOL tracks and they sound much better when using a pick, On Call for example. EDIT: When doing KOL, it is the law that you mimic Jareds odd facial movements...
At the moment, we're doing Sex is on fire / Mollies Chambers maybe the Bucket and I'm trying to persuade the others to do some others.
22.
I loved the Bass Bob B was playing but gosh, didnt he look old and i thought a bit out of it?
Yeh - I was a bit taken aback by that and how frail Uriel looked. Eddie looked well for his age though but then, guitarists have an easy life.
23. Just watched it too - some nice footage
24.
Alan I am sooo much looking forward to the new set list. Peter
Thanks Pedro - I'm moist about it myself TBH, especially KOL stuff. They're my fav band at the moment.
