1.
No interest in 4 strings bass trades then?
It would have to be very interesting and better than the DJ.
2.
Could this be easily routed for a PJ configuration? if so I may b very very very tempted.
I haven't got a clue TBH - maybe someone else can chime in?
3.
A gem of a guy! How the hell are you Al?
Hey Anndra, I'm reasonable thanks mate - how are you good buddy? Still slappin' and snappin'? Must be bloody cold up there! Alan
4. I've had this bass longer than any other but since I've discovered the love that is Spector, it never gets picked up. It's in excellent condition, it has Aero pups and a brand new set of DR Sunbeams on it. It comes with the black Jeannie's p/g and the new/unused black cherry tort you can see in the pictures (cost nearly £70) - I'll throw in the original white one too. It is fitted with Dunlop strap buttons and if you don't have any, I'll give you the stuff for your strap. Please note that it DOES NOT have a J Retro fitted anymore as shown - it's now in its original state and passive. I can't be arsed taking new pics but if you really need some I'll begrudgingly dig the camera out. Will sell for £575 (no offers) or trade for something active and interesting with 5 strings - maybe 6 if I'm feeling saucy (+/- cash adjustment). Would prefer not so ship (but will at your expense) - prepared to meet within an hour's drive of Preston. Any questions PM me.
5. I think you're right Dave, I wanna play the blues now, life's hard and I'm hoytin'
6. Another dreary gig last night - unattentive, unappreciative largely male crowd - men don't seem to enjoy soul as much as women. Tonight, we're playing at a chav pub in Leyland - early start after the footie. Looking forward to playing to a drunken audience with a collective IQ that wouldn't make double digits - not. We're all looking forward to a nice long break after NYE - we're all burnt out and we want to completely change the set. No more soul and not before time.
7. + another for Hercules. Used on many gigs with two 5 stringers on and it's the bollocks. Our guitarist was so impressed with mine, he now uses the 3 version.
8. Any DR strings but especially Sunbeams - worth the money IMHO
9.
I know we've been best mates since we were 4 but..... YOU'RE FIRED!
Yeh he does a bit doesn't he...I think he looks like Bob Hoskins or Harold Shipman's younger brother
10. Just a coupla pics from a memorable gig a few weeks ago. It was probably the biggest place I've ever played - huuuuuuuuuuuuge. It was a wedding for a local radio presenter who made history by being the first to get married at the top of Blackpool Tower, we got the gig in the Tower Ballroom. I wish I could say it was a fantastic gig but being honest it was hard work - hell of an experience though. The following night, we came back to earth with a bump playing at a pub in Fleetwood to one drunken punter and 4 bar staff. The Manager was so embarrassed, he dragged his family down to pad out the audience. My rig looked lost on the enormous stage but it did a great job... Some gems from backstage...
11. Bit of an update cos I'm starting to look more like Homer's Dad now...this was taken three weeks ago in Crete with my best mate who I've known since I was 4...
12. ...you know if you don't leave...you can't come back
13. We all have interest in particular bits...ahem, but what bit of the bass are your eyes drawn to first? A nice body? A perky bridge? A cheeky little headstock? A long sexy neck? Ooh matron, I need to lie down....
14. I'm afraid that all your gonna get Mick in answer to your question is the standard response ..."go and try as many basses as possible until you find the right one for you". It's not laziness, it's just that there are so many variables, so many basses and nobody apart from you knows what you're after in terms of sound / playability etc. There aren't many bad basses for a grand in my experience and I've played some belters < £300
15. A £10 aluminium case from B&Q - perfect fit and room for a cab lead.
16.
why thank you think that is the first and only time i've heard that
Mine's only small but there's 17 stone rammin' it home....did I say that out loud?
17. We should organise a Basschat day out there - just think of it 30 or 40 of us turning up at once trying gear without asking.
18. Keep a bass John and keep playing. I stopped playing guitar when I got married and had a 20 year lay off and I can't tell you how much I regret doing that. You never know what's around the corner so keep your hand in.
19.
Good idea! Here is me and Nellie-pie
I'm relieved to see that Nellie-pie's not panting
20. I don't suffer with nerves at all and never have - probably because I don't give a toss what people think of me. The other members of my band are terrible and they're on edge before the gig, I'm always screaming at them "...FFS calm down it's only a f*cking pub in Chorley" but that never works. I do quite a bit of public speaking and somebody once gave me a tip that works for me. Make eye contact and smile at everyone in the front row / nearest the stage, exchange a few words with the audience before you begin. It's all about breaking the ice IME.
21. Plain black looks sexy...
22. Sounds wonderful - I'm pleased the cabs did the job for you
23. Lovely collection - you should change your forum name to Spector Clouseau
24. Time for a beer and a chat methinks.
25. I used my new Euro LX5 in anger on Saturday night and the sound was sublime - full, punchy, articulate - all the things I want. I've been frowning at my rig a bit lately (LMII & Genz Benz NEOX 212) but all the parts combined beautifully and I'm in a happy place gearwise thankfully.
