1. Two stonkers this weekend - Black Bull in Preston city centre last night and the Fox & Lion in Leyland this afternoon - both absolutely brilliant gigs. Good news is we got two likley wedding bookings from last night, one of which is in Galashiels - should be good. Bad news is that two venues have cancelled our gigs this month and another regular -Uncle Tom's Cabin in Blackpool has closed down. A sign of the times.
2. Where where where??????
3. Time we had another beer my good friend.
4. What's on the agenda Mustafa?
5. No Russ - it was in Brum. I'd just picked the Rebop up and fancied a sneaky look in PMT when I saw these stands. It was £35 for the double and £45 for the three way one. It'll be great to see you on August 9th, Mike's coming too. I can give you the money for that pedal.
6.
I've got one of those. Seems lame to get excited over a stand, but it really is a superb piece of engineering.
My thoughts exactly spinynorman
7. I've just come back to Spector and now I see this I'm going to be nursing a semi all day
8. I didn't really speak to anyone. I just handed over the cash for one of these brilliant pieces of kit...
9. It would have been about 12.15 to 12.45 - we went into the city centre for some lunch then in that giant silver pie they call Selfridges. Just missed ya mate. Did you see that 2 string Sandberg?
10.
A lot of people have had that bass Al .
Yep - maybe it'll come 'round full circle eh Matt? Was in PMT on Saturday - thought I might have seen you there. Best shop in the world that.
11. Did a gig with my new to me Rebop 5 yesterday - what a fantastic bass. Growly, powerful and punchy as hell. I used to own a particularly nice Euro 5 and foolishly sold it because at the time, I couldn't do it justice with my sh*tty technique. I've had a few lessons since then and now I'm comfortable on 5 strings - I spent most of the gig kicking myself for selling it.
12. Sunday afternoon gig at our local - boy it was hot. Went down well - nice relaxed atmosphere but I got carried away with the suds - a big mistake when you're playing with an extra string. Carried on when I got home and today, I feel like someone's stuck their arm down me throat and pulled me inside out
13. They're from Jeannie's Pickguards in the good ol' USA.
14.
You should totally give the GBE750 a try,but also check out the Shuttle.
Yep - that's the plan thanks Doddy
15. Nowt wrong with it being made in the Far East, I just thought they were American through and through ^_^
16. Made in Taiwan?
17. Didn't manage that one Dave, but we did you a stirring rendition of Stevie Wonder's suppository song..."Baby, everything is all right, up tight 'n out of sight" Went down (or should it be up?) well
18.
I guess it's personal choice / preference but what's turned you off the R500? Everyone on here will have an opinion in; and if you find a GB 750 owner I'm sure that they will have lots of positive things to say. The thing to do, is to try out what's in your price range and consider what you want to do with it and give it a go, ideally over a period of time - As WOT points out living with a piece of gear can be far different from listening in the showroom. When you're nearly decided post again and ask the 'So what's a (insert make and model here) like to own?' question to narrow down your choices - happy hunting.
Thanks HFB, I still have the R500 uppermost in my mind - it ticked all the boxes for me when I tried one. I'm just keeping my options open I guess and not having heard a GBE 750, I wondered what other people thought of them before taking it any further. As it happens, I was in Brum yesterday and rang Mark to see if I could try one while I was in the area but his phone went to ansafone. No hurry to change and I'm not buying anything again without trying - I've learned that lesson.
19. An awful night for us - we played at the 55th club in Preston. Full of Bingo lovin' coffin dodgers and petty officious commitee members - where do these people come from? We shared the stage with an organist and a drummer who started playing the song we just finished the set with as soon as the last chord was struck. How cheesy can you get? Had to tweak Sex Machine in favour of Kidney Dialysis Machine to suit the audience. Today should be better - a nice relaxing saunter at our 'home' pub with the locals - looking forward to playing to an audience where the women don't have their jubblies hanging 'round their waist.
20. Never really thought about the Shuttle. Reading about all the availability problems and comments about their sound - 'nasal' seems to crop up a bit. I like the sound of the 750 on Basstasters and as I'm just off to Brum for the day - I may give Mark a call en route and leave the missus shopping in Brum while I demo a few amps assuming Mark's about today.
21. Thanks John.
22. Thanks Steve - they've got the Neopak and the GBE 750 on Basstasters so I can compare them on there. I've demoed an F1 and TBH, couldn't hear £150 of improvement over the LMII but they are amazing little units. I really liked the R500 but I keep reading wonderful stuff about the GBE 750 - plus I'm assuming it would buddy up well with my NEOX 212T.
23. If it helps, here's what it'll look like with a black p/g This is a black cherry tort
24. My plans to upgrade my amp to a Markbass R500 are waivering a bit. I keep looking and reading about the GBE 750 - does anyone use one and how was it for you?
25. Almost anything by The Funk Brothers.
