1. Greene King has a Les Evans bass - I've played it and it was a fine instrument. Perhaps Peter will chime in next time he logs in.
2.
Great to see you last night Alan. I know what you mean about a P Bass not working for you. The Spector sounded awesome. Can't wait to let loose on mine. Cracking Band and really great material. It's nice to see a bunch of guys working together and with so much energy. Your vocalist really knows how to work a crowd. .
Thanks - you're a gentleman Stuart - great to see you and Mrs. bassbunny. I must get to one of your gigs soon - let me know when and where you're playing.
3. A nice relaxed one for us at The Stag in Orrel near Wigan. Started off a bit quietly -audience were a bit detached but soon won 'em over and it was cooking by the end of the first set. My good friend, fellow BCer and Black Cherry Spector Euro LX5 owner bassbunny came to see us with his missus, twas a good night in spite of the sh*tty weather. Used my new Euro LX and boy am I happy.
4. You could do an awful lot worse than buying this one Higgie It's a cracker.
5. It'll be something and nothing - easily fixed methinks.
6. We do a 45 minute first set from this list; I feel good Gimme some lovin' Nutbush city limits Get ready Substitute Sha La La La Lee Mr Pitiful Take me to the river Show me Hold on I'm comin' Hard to handle Knock on Wood Satisfaction Can I get a witness All over now We do an hour or more for the second set from the following list; Uptight (Out of Sight) Tears of a clown Soul Man Sweet Soul Music Louie Louie Saw her standing bare Must Hang Sally Disco inferno Heatwave Shake a tailfeather Sex Machine Everybody (needs somebody) Higher and higher Town called malice Land of a thousand dances There's more but I can't remember them - we also have about 12 Elvis songs we chuck in for a laugh now and then
7. The treble goes to extreme trebliness - it definitely isn't subtle. You might have a problem.
8. Quality. How's it perform?
9. When we're feeling saucy and the dance floor is full, we often go from the last chorus of Must Hang Sally straight into Disco Inferno a la cabaret medley. Surely this ranks highly on the cheesometer - the audience always seem to like it though. Embarrassed of Preston.
10. That's the finish I was hoping for - gorgeous mate. Mind you, mine's not too shabby.
11. ...did I mention that I f*cking hate the song with unbridled passion and that my teeth itch whenever we play it?
12. I've played at hundreds and hundreds of trad weddings - nothing but nothing goes down better than a bit of Mustang Sally and the like. If you want to go down like whale sh*t, by all means play a bit of prog rock or punk or jazz.
13. We rarely rehearse, which suits me to be honest. When I joined the band, I had one 'run through the set' and a few days later did my first gig. When new songs are suggested, we all go away and learn them and then try them at soundcheck. If they work, they're in and if they don't they're not.
14. Nice one thedonutman - I'll have to take some better pics of mine this weekend.
15.
Suggestions are welcomed for where I can source some gold knobs to replace the black volume/tone ones on this Euro 6. Presumably they simply pull off, as I can't see a screw. PS They still have two Euro 4's left at £400 each ...one black cherry and one natural maple
Hello mate - loving the spalted 6. I'd try Axesrus for your knobs - reasonable selection methinks. Hope the Bergies are serving their purpose. Alan
16. Hiscox every time
17. Charged me a tenner for next day delivery.
18. Just rang the chap who dealt with me at Brum - a nice, helpful bloke called Rob. I was quizzing him about the US ones and they have just one left with a redwood top @ £799 but that's Divorce City Arizona so I must resist. Can't see this affecting resale values in the long term but I doubt I'd get the £450 I paid for the Rebop 5DLX FM two weeks ago back if I tried to sell it now (no chance). Que sera - you win a few and you lose a few.
19. Just arrived - coupla tiny dings on the back but apart from that , all is tickety-boo. It's not the colour I would have chosen but I'm quite please with it all the same. Pics....er hastily taken by the way and with it's brother...
20. What a bargain - this is a gorgeous bass but I'd be really risking it if I bought it back now. Somebody buy this quick.
21. I'm mad enough to buy it too Sadly the missus' patience is starting to wear a bit thin.
22. Nice one thedonutman - pleased with it? As a matter of interest, what else did they have in stock?
23. Being the eternal pessimist I'm expecting a catch somewhere but what the hell. I gigged with my Rebop 5 DLX yesterday - I'm so glad I've rediscovered Spector, sublime instruments.
24.
Ah, well I called them about 20 times today, about three times every hour to find out when they open . I think I'm gonna go in first thing tomorrow morning, since I'm pretty close to it. Are those black cherry ones all in that one store? The one in Sheffield was/is amberburst.
They may have had other colours in 4s in Birmingham but just had black cherry with 5 strings. I'm half tempted to buy another. £500? I can't believe it, I've had a 'wanted' post on here for an LX5 for a while now and would have paid up to £800 for one too. I just hope it arrives in one piece.
25. Like a complete arse - I drove to Sheffield this morning...only 90 miles and ..."they're bound to be open"....ahem, got their at eleven after making several calls en route to see if they were open and...they were closed. Silly me. So I rang the branch in Brum to ask if all branches were open on Sundays and he said no so I told him my plight and he said ..."oh yeh, we've got 3 Euro 5LXs - any colour you like so long as it's black cherry". Guess which colour I ordered? Nearly got back late for this afternnon's gig -M62 closed at Manchester - horrific accident.
