Lakland Darryl Jones with Aero pups - classic 70s jazz sound IMO
-
I've stuck my LaBella flats back on and it sounds amazing.

Dave - just a thought mate - I'm probably going to keep my DD (F*** the band) so before you start drilling, make a drawing of the pearly white and fax it to me (will PM if interested). If it fits mine without any mods, I'll give you full whack for it and you can then order another one that fits correctly.

Any progress/news with the modification Dave?

I have no choice but to go light. I'd love a Berg 6x10 and a valve head but I'd be in a wheelchair by Christmas. We rehearse upstairs and my den - where I keep all my gear is upstairs - even my Bergie 1x12s were too heavy and had to go. If I do a double gig weekend, I can't stand straight on Monday. I have shoulder problems and may have to look for a silly light bass (like a Sadowsky :brow: ) when I get back off holiday. You young'uns may laugh but have the ointment ready cos it's comin' to you soon.
I thought you had an aversion to 'W'... or am I confusing you with another BW/BT/BC member
No - I'm not mad on the look of Corvettes (phallic top horn) and the Thumb (dunno which) that looks like it's been left too close to a radiator and melted but Streamers are nice basses.
Alan if you like the vintage look have you tried any of the Sadowsky jazzes yet? You are welcome to try my standard 4, it has the vintage tone control which is very useful. This comes standard with the NYC model. Good luck with the sale of your DD, nice bass.
I may well be looking at Sadowskys when my wallet recovers from my holiday. I'm getting a lot of pain in my left shoulder when I play and if it doesn't improve, I'll be looking to buy something very light.
Hang on Alan, isn't this Spector just a pretty Warwick Streamer... are you gradually conquering your hatred of all things 'W' It is a cracking looking bass. I'd love to A/B it against the similar spec'd Warwick Streamer!
I love Spectors (having owned two) and even some Warwicks - there was a nice neck through Thumb on here recently that had me nursing a semi for days.

Had no plans to sell but GAS attack means my Bergantino HT112 and EX112 are for sale. Sweet sounding cabs, built like tanks, small but not particularly light. Excellent condition. Tweeter not working in HT112 (don't miss it) but new diaphragm is on it's way to Mark at Bass Direct - easy to fit or Mark has quoted £25 to do the job and this is reflected in the price. 300 watts at 8ohms - will split but wont post - meet or collect. £220 each or £425 the pair. Please please please...no inquests or debates on whether I should be selling these or not - I know you mean well but frankly it's tedious.
I think your Modulus Flea is quite stunning too I'll hunt a photo. I bought mine from Marcus and it's received one more mod since I've had it. Marcus had it refinished by Dave Wilson who finishes the Sobel range of acoustic guitars. It's not a flamed finish but nevertheless it's beautiful and I prefer the more understated look myself. It has a Badass II fitted and has the Lane Poor pickup that also has the Flea motif I've since replaced the Aguilar 3 EQ with an ACG02 filter based unit and the result is stunning as Homer (Alan) will no doubt testify as he had a go today. Peter
I can indeed testify this is a stunning bass - a genuine GAS antidote if ever there was one.

Just my terminology Steve, I remember playing a blue sparkly one a few years back on the Wirral (Waldo's) and being really impressed by everything apart from the colour. Peter's is a nice sunburst, the neck is without any doubt, the nicest neck I've ever played and it sounded sweet as a nut. I'd have it in a flash but he doesn't want to sell but all good things come to those who wait
Well I'll let Alan update. It was great to see Al and Hazel and a good time was had by all Peter
Braved the atrocious weather / flying trees and made it to Peter's place on one piece. Played some of his luvverly basses - highlights for me were the Modulus Flea (a life changing experience) and his ACG single cut, which is a work of art. I also plugged in my DD through Peter's rig - we both use a LMII but Peter's cab if a BFM 2x10 whereas I use 2 Bergantino 112s and I couldn't get over how good the Lakland sounded through it. Like the absolute gent he his, Peter's kindly lent me the cab to try out with the band this week. Most of his basses are active - some have Alan's preamp in and they all sounded really sweet to me and all with astounding range and versatility. Peter's also approached Alan about my problem but apparently it wouldn't be a straightforward proposition fitting one of his preamps. I've come away thinking maybe I need to go back to an active bass and change my cabs for something with 10" speakers. If this BFM cab does the job, I'll maybe get someone to build me one (It'd look like an MFI sideboard if I did it). I don't think I'm going to modify the DD remembering what happened with Peter's Bob Glaub. I'm such a fussy bugger and very conscious of the fact that I could spend £300 on modifications and still not like what I hear. So for now, the Duck Dunn is still up for sale and I'm dreaming of a Modulus Flea.
Did you get my PM, offering a swap with my Lakland Darryl Jones? ted
No ted - just checked my inbox - nowt there mate.

We had a fantastic time on Friday night - played a rough hole in Leyland and it was a riot. A girl who used to sing with the band years ago came along and got up for a few songs. Her name's Gemma D and she works as a presenter on RockFM now - she brought about a dozen of her mates along and every one a stunner. Got pissed and left the gear - got to bed about 5am.

Hi Mike, This is the fourth P bass I've had - I seem to keep keep buying 'em and selling 'em shortly after. The band consists of guitar, bass, drums and vocals and we play classic soul / 60s stuff. Given that, you'd think a P would be the perfect choice really but in our situation, something like a Stingray or a good Jazz is actually better. Because we're playing stuff that normally relies on brass / keys etc etc, I play some of the melody to songs and I need something that's quite full sounding and at the same time, articulate. Truth is, a Precision fills out the bottom end very nicely but they don't have the definition for what we do. The other thing, is it's very important in a small band that the 'parts' combine to produce something greater and if anything isn't right, it reduces the overall effect and sticks out like a sore thumb. The guitarist has a sound of his own and certain basses just don't blend well and this is why people have seen and commented ad nauseum on how quickly I go through basses. I buy 'em, try 'em and if they don't work, I sell 'em. Simple as that. I was hoping I could have sold this without having to justify it - other BCers seem able to buy basses and sell them in a matter of hours or days without comment or having to explain the reasons for their actions. Fact is, this has been a difficult decision to take - I was toying with the idea of adding a J pup to improve things but I've been put off by the thought of spending £200 on a modification and the possibility of still not being able to use it live. I know people mean well and I appreciate the support.

I love this bass but the band prefer a different sound and it's too good to gather dust in my den. It's in brand new condition and comes in a really nice Lakland gig bag. I'll even chuck in a mint green pickguard. I paid £600 for it - you can have it for the same money. Will trade with an open mind. Collection or meet within a reasonable distance. Pics (more on request) With original white pickguard ...and minty green

The LMII works well with 2 1x12s in my experience and makes a nice compact rig. I've gigged extensively with a LMII and two Aguilar 112s and currently 2 Bergantino 112s. We play some pretty big places and I've never been short of clout. I've even done a couple of gigs with just a single cab. The 210 combo is supposed to be very good - I know there's one for sale on here at the moment and I may end up with one myself with my ageing back issues.

HR are rear ported, HF are front ported and I'm not sure but I think the Traveller cabs don't have any ports.
Do you still get down this way on business? If so you are welcome to try it.
Only occasionally Dave - it'll be months before I'm down that way again but I will call in and say hello.
