Played a couple of 424s today and apart from the missing string, they were quite nice. TBH, having played them, I wouldn't want to order one without playing / checking one first, they were a little bit ropey in a good value bass kinda way.

It certainly looks good - better neck and all that but there is a bit of a jump in price.

Just looking for a back up bass and trying as many basses as possible. I've tried the BB415 and BB615 but this new BB425 looks promising but I can't find one anywhere. Anyone seen one hanging up in a shop or better still tried one?

I'm a habitual MB user and currently have an LM Tube 500 which is very good. I quite fancy a GB Streamliner for some extra headroom but after all the hoohaa on Talkbass I'm going to sit back and watch for a while.

I'm on my third John East preamp - I've had 2 J-Retros in Laklands and the U-Retro 5 knob Deluxe that's in my Shuker now. Great products, lovely bloke who's really helpful. First call every time now.

I use my B string quite a bit but in truth I could live without it.

Played at Whittles in Oldham last night - first gig for 4 fookin' months and it was a good'n. Whittles is a rock/metal music venue so they gave us a slot on Thursday night to see if we went down like whaleshit (my band plays folk rock) and we stormed the place. Got a lot of great feedback and a few Shuker droolers too. The only downer was the sound man and his assistant, setting up was like pulling teeth, it took them nearly two hours to get a crap sound but it was getting late so we had to live with it. There wasn't enough channels for my bass so I had no PA assistance but had enough beans in my LM Tube/Epifani UL410 to cope fine. Didn't take kindly to the sound 'assistant' who wasn't as old as some of my underwear telling me to turn my bass down twice - the second time it was..."turn your bass down now please". I don't normally hit girls but she came close (just kidding).

Great bass for the money - I had problems with 3 fret markers loose above the 12th fret but it's a relatively easy fix. Nice to play and great tone, I sold it because I can't play a fretless good enough to gig.

I never 'got' the classic blues stuff but the older I get, my taste in blues has got more down and dirty and dare I say ...ethnic. I used to be in a brillaint blues band, there was no rehearsals, no sound checks and you had to guess which harp the front man was using to find the key to the song. It was a great distraction from my main band where everything is done to military precision but stupidly, I walked and have regretted it every day since.
