1. Gutted I couldn't make it
2. I was thinking about buying one of these and I know I'll probably get flamed for this but after reading TB, it's put me right off. I really want to like Genz gear but I had a GBE 750 that went kaput about 3 weeks after I sold it and that was just a month or so after Michael's (WofT) experience with his GBE750. I dunno - I realise it could be coincidence and also that other makes have problems too but I put reliability above looks and sound.
3. RIP - a sad day
4. I have one too - great stands, wouldn't use anything else.
5. I think it's something Sheldon Dingwall came up with in response to some complaints that the B string was 'weak'. I'm really wanting a Dingwall and need a second bass so the Combustion is right up my street. It's not easy trying one before you buy and Bass Direct is a long way from Preston - especially if the choice is limited.
6. Any points at all well received
7. They're great strings - used 'em for years and they were always my first choice. Perhaps I got a Friday afternoon set, I dunno, it's the only properly duff set I've had out of maybe 20-30.
8. I think I'll send an email to Stringbusters - I've bought loads of Sunbeams from them. I'll report back.
9. I'd like to be there but it's a long way from Preston. Would have liked to bring Si's Shuker for you to play a few numbers on but I don't think I can make it.
10.
Where did you get the sets from?
Stringbusters
11. I say buy it and I'll give you 80% of the new value next week. Just kidding - you will lose money but it'll be a long time before these are available s/h so I'd buy it.
12. I've used DR Sunbeams exclusively for years and recommended them to everyone but after two duff packs - that's it I'm off. First problem set were definitely not Sunbeams - sure they were in a Sunbeam pack but were more like Lo Riders so I shrugged my shoulders and put up with them. The last pack were absolutely dreadful and almost had me booking the Shuker in for some major surgery. I sounded out of tune all the time even though I clearly wasn't and to make matters worse the intonation was all over the pace. They sounded even weirder with the band - it's hard for me to describe but the sound just didn't 'blend' with the band at all. Very un-musical. I kept a set of Ernie Ball Slinkies I'd used so I've just boiled them and stuck 'em back on my bass. Phew, what a bloody relief, I have my bass back and what's more I'm in tune again all over the fretboard. I accept it could just be a rogue set but at £35 a go I'm not taking any more chances.
13. I want now
14.
I'm feeling deeply hurt guys Not one comment on my poor Jazz. Someone out there must have something to say ..............
I like it a lot - I bet the colour looks great under stage lights and the pickguard is a really nice shape. I had a Shuker Jazz for a while so I know it'll sound and play brilliantly. Sell me your missus - mine won't let me buy another bass and I've only got one FFS
15. OK they've been out for a while now, how are getting on with it? Good points and bad points warmly received...
16. I'd put an aged white pearl or a mint green on that. Lovely bass, reminds me of a Jazz I once owned - that had a mint green pg, here have a look and see what you think...
17.
If i have to learn a song I play it a few times to get it into my head. I then usually learn the root chord changes, then add the fills. If there are a lot of chords, I learn everything by patterns on the fretboard. For instance, in our set we do Deacon Blues, which has a lot of changes. I couldn't tell you the chords, as I just learn the bass part as linear patterns. Does this make sense? Works for me.
I take my hat off to you Pete - learning Steely Dan stuff can be tricky. I'm currently working my way through all the tracks on Aja learning them note for note instead of fudging it like I usually do and it's not easy for me anyway.
18. No more ZZ Doc?
19. Thanks fella - the top's camphor, the back and sides are ash.
20. +1 on the UL310, one of the best cabs I've ever had the pleasure of. I've also previously owned a Series 1 UL410 which was also superb. The cab I'm using now is a Series 2 UL410, that's my favourite of the three.
21. I have to play songs at least 20 times for it to sink in. When I can play it 6 times on the trot with no mistakes, then it's there forever.
22. Slobber inducing...gawjus
