1. Yeah you totally want this Si
2.
There is a scottish custom pedal group who make a stonking OC-2 clone, but for the life of me can't remember what they or it is called... Will post back if I ever remember! EDIT: GojiraFX, that's them!
Not tried the Gojira, seems alright, probably based on the Pearl OC-02 (low and high octave), so not quite an OC-2 clone. I considered one just for the up octave, but think I'll wait for the POG Nano. OC-2 destroys the POG on low end Si
3. Thanks Seashell, appreciate your input Si
4. bump Si
5. My fave reverb to date is the Mr Black Eterna, however thats a Shimmer reverb, at extreme settings it sounds like a choir, beautiful pedal. That is, understandably, possibly a bit more specialised than you're after, so I would definitely recommend the TC stuff (either the HoF or HoF Mini), they also have their new Trinity 2 out, which has a ton of reverbs on it. Must give a shout out also to the Marshall Reflector, discontinued now, but probably still the cheapest of the above, sounds great and has a few different reverbs on it. Si
6. Yes I've done that excercise with Anthony at Wooten Woods. I was fine at it, slightly surprised myself, but then I was on a 20 fret Fender. Now I'm using a 26 fret 5 string (high C)......it's harder lol....but getting there Si
7. My '71 P-Bass has a Rosewood fingerboard My P/J has a Pau Ferro fingerboard My MGS has a Kingwood fingerboard .......they all basically look like Rosewood Si
8. Yup, had a few bits from Joe, great guy, great business! Si
9. So we'd like to try and get more along to the Herts Bass Bash (thread in the events forum). What kind of events/discussions/demonstrations etc are people interested in seeing at this (or any) bass bash? What floats your boat at bass events? Secondly, for my information, if you are attending, or thinking about it, this year, what (if any) pedals and effects specific gear/talks/demonstrations are you interested in hearing/playing with. Bashs are out on by members for members, so it's important to get a dialogue going to see what people are interesting in seeing Many thanks Si
10. Listen to D'Angelos 'Voodoo' album! That entire album is behind the beat!! Pino is sometimes half a bar behind the kick and it's amazing!! Si
11. I had one of these and powered 9v pedals allllll the time . Of course check with the manufacturer, but I never gigged a pedal that had an issue with it. Si
12. I'd probably go with a Mac (MacBook or Mac Pro), using Reaper, Logic or Pro Tools (Reaper if you're on a Budget......i.e. free). I would personally stay clear of PCs (nightmare for Firewire/Thunderbolt cards), especially if you're looking to use Pro Tools (nightmare), and if I had to use PC, I'd stick with Cubase. Si
13. Yup, the Octoplus is a really good sounding pedal, and as you mention......cheap. It's not as subby as the OC-2, although it certainly does a good impression of it. For me, it kinda comes down to the bad DOD footswitches of that era. If you're very considered and only use it a few times in a set, then sure. However if you want to stomp on it and use it a lot......it's going to let you down WAY before the OC-2 will . I've not tried the OC-2 clones like the Chord etc, however if Spencer at 3Leaf can't entirely nail the OC-2 tone (again the Octabvre is less subby), then I'm guessing Chord can't But, if an Octoplus costs you £40....I'd still pay £20 more and get an OC-2 Si
14.
Exacty. But the bass drum isn't the beat. The beat is the pulse is in your (and all the other musician's) head. The bass drum may well usually be on that beat but not always. Hence you're not actually listening for the drum beat to mark your time. You will be listening to it for other clues though.
A good example of this would be when a drummer takes a solo, if it's a good band/good players, the drummer should be able to do whatever he likes with the timing and the band will retain time via the pulse in their heads. I saw Steve Smith solo with Vital Information once, his solo consisted of playing the same beat but gradually slowing down....the band carried on at tempo. He then gradually sped up, matched time with them, and continued to speed up whilst they again retained time. That was pure exercise as to how good their internal time was whilst Smith did whatever the hell he wanted with it. It was a bit of a head-trip Si
15. And I'm certainly always keen for people to pick my brains about effects I'll bring along a board of goodies to make silly noises with......oh and a Fodera Si
16. Just treat yourself and buy a Boss OC-2. The Taiwan ones can be had for around £60 on eBay and it's all you'll ever want!! Si
17. I love that the lowest sting and the highest string aren't even over the fingerboard lol Si
18. I agree, probably a dodgy/dry solder joint somewhere. If there's noise and no bass sound, there's a signal path joint at issue probably. If there's bass sound AND noise, probably a ground joint. Si
I embrace the ethos of function over form.
Well yes, but neater wiring usually means shorter wires, which often means a quieter pedal. In any case, looks great, sound clips please Si
20. Looking for any trades? Or moving away from playing any instrument?! Cheers Si
21. I had the problem where the button would stick when I had my S1 Jazz, fortunately it just stuck in the 'series' mode, so I just forgot about it and left it lol. Eventually it was an easy fix. Si
22.
Hmmmm ... helpful if you're a drummer, I'd guess. I found myself automatically listening to the bass player.
Surely, as a bassist, you should be listening to the drummer?! Si
23. I played around with the idea of a P5 after I sold my J5. Settled on a Yamaha P/J 5, although still think I'd like a nice P5. Si
24. Yes, sounds fantastic, good buy Si
