I believe that I remember him speaking about having to transcribe tunes for books. He had to go back and relearn a number of tunes, and so as Stuart says, he might have played something slightly different to the record perhaps. I may be remembering that incorrectly however, it makes sense though. I can't imagine he's overly fussed about playing something per the record when playing it live.......neither should you, use your ear and embellish upon it Si

Not sure I'd want to run a looper on a battery in a gig situation. I suspect they rinse battery power, and having a digital looping pedal slowly lose juice through a performance would suck lol Si

Big manufacturers don't really have much interest for me, I can see/try their gear at GAK or Andertons, or wherever, at anytime. Fender were there a few years ago and bought some baseman stacks and a few of the new vintage american series, it wasn't a NAMM/Messe style booth Si

I believe he is still working on small projects & setups around Newcastle, however his standing on the forum took a massive hit when he stopped completing jobs and returning money/parts or even replying to correspondance (I'm in the hole for around £500 with no sign of that changing, my 'job' started 18months ago). Obviously this is in part due to his unfortunate poor health, which everyone hopes he recovers from, of course health is more important than money etc, however his management of the situation with many members means that I can't say that I'd recommend sending him money for jobs at this time. Put it down to a bad experience, don't book another lesson, move on. Take recommendations. There's two types of player in my eyes, one who wants to learn, regardless of the experience, and another who will give up at the first hurdle. The same test can be applied to watching an amazing bassist, some will be inspired, others will want to give up. I'd say it's about matching the pedal to your setup. If you think the MXR sounds better, use the MXR . I always have a problem with people laying into tracking though, I've shown a couple of rooms of people (at Bass Bashes) the OC-2 tracking down to an A on the E string, and to a point as low as an F#, how long a note tracks for obviously decreases as it gets lower. I think the 'Vintage' vs 'Boutique' thing gets overblown a lot of the time. Essentially, a lot of old pedals were low tech, as such, they often had weird settings and hardware/components that acted in weird ways in some settings. As such, a lot of newer users looking for weird and wonderful sounds/noises prefer these old pedals that would have perhaps be seen as useless back in the day (DODs Meatbox is a great example). Newer pedals that are meant to be an overdrive, are just an overdrive, design and technology is at the point where there are no weird sounds, no strange surprises, it's just a good, solid overdrive pedal. The flip side of course is that now, when a builder MEANS to build a weird pedal, they get very weird (Rainbow Machine anyone?). That said, I've still not heard an octave pedal that can beat the OC-2 for me ......not even the new 3 Leaf Octavbre Si

Yeah, you'd traditionally leave the tuning B,E,A,D,G if playing tunes in Db. This is because you can reach a low Db note on the 2nd fret of the B string. Note that with this setup, you're playing a fretted note whilst your guitarists are playing an open string note. This is because, whilst you still have the exact same notes they do, they're in a different tuning, so your notes are in a different place on the neck. Because of this, some players will choose to detune their 4 string (as an example) to match their guitarists tuning, this would potentially aid in learning tunes (copy the guitarists), but also pedalling off an open low note of Db rather than having to play a fretted note. Your second point, if you're talking about stringing a 4 string B,E,A,D, then you will likely need to have the nut re-cut in order to accommodate the B string. However this is quite a common setup for players who want to play in a lower tuning but not play a 5 string. I used to tour in a drop C, F, Bb, Eb tuning, so two tones down across the strings. However I used a standard 45-105 string set, but much higher tension (larger string core). This allowed me to not need to recut my nut and have massive strings, but it did mean I couldn't tune them up to E,A,D,G due to the higher tension. Hope the above is helpful Si

This is the Overdrive rather than the Distortion, but it seems to be fairly clearly stated as True Bypass: [IMG]http://i62.tinypic.com/28vruvt.png[/IMG] Some new MXR pedals may be buffered, like the Bass Preamp (much like the Darkglass B7K is buffered to allow for the DI out), but I imagine they're largely all standard True Bypass. Perhaps an email to them would help. There's probably a case for MXR to tidy up (standardise) the specs/features for each pedal on the site. Si

Seems odd too, seeing as the vast majority of their pedals are True Bypass, meaning what you read must refer to the 'ON' sound.....which is essentially just not liking the tone of the pedal lol Si
