I went to see Bona a couple of months ago in Brussels (I've seen him live often enough) and my perception of him changed since then. The show started with a good vibe and the whole band brought the music with enthusiasm..especially the fact that the audience included a lot of black people from the Matonge-neighbourhood around here (and some of them seemed to know him personally (he adressed them in French too)) gave it a friendly atmosphere.. At a certain moment Bona wanted to do a solo-thing on acoustic guitar and the whole band left the stage..The guitar-player (a white man with dreadlocks who had been playing really cheerfully until then) walked away and had nearly left the stage but was summoned by Bona to come back to hand him over his acoustic guitar although it was in his reach (at his feet) and nothing had to be changed. It looked like a gesture you use when calling a slave. You could feel that the guitarplayer felt humiliated and that he had to force himself to smile while handing over the guitar to a "proud" Bona. As if he wanted to show the public that he was the boss. The guitarplayer went back offstage but it took him the rest of the show to get back in his old mood. Bona interrupted the show a couple of times to talk about "space" and "the moon" and he started a long monologue to convince the public that they should refuse injections when they were ill because according to him it was all a conspiracy of the pharmaceutical firms to make people more ill with these injections.. The playing was superb but as a person Bona let me down that night..
Wow.. Wattabout vid, bassy stuff didn't catch me, I was expecting some more from RB..

Well said, each to their own. What I mean by licks.. Well, actually he w***ed on Victor's tune 'More Love'..
-
But the book is based on method of 'lego bricks'.. Do you dig that method?
-
Playing some V Wooten and Jacoish licks? Doesn't do it for me..
If you are looking for films that feature jazz content as opposed to just soundtracks, try..... Mo Better Blues The Fabulous Baker Boys Round Midnight Bird The Man WIth The Golden Arm Bring On The Night (Sting) Mingus (b+w documentary) Triumph of the Underdog (highly recommended) Young Man With A Horn Kansas City Made In Heaven (documentary about Kind of Blue) Miles Davis, David Sanbourn and John McLaughlin had a cameo in Scrooged (they were buskers) Branford Marsalis was in Throw Momma From The Train and in an episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
I'm after documentaries/biographies rather than hollywood stuff, actually.. Which of them would be those? Although 'Baker Brothers' was ok, have to finish watching it tonight..

Well, you can't beat his chops, but about overplaying thing.. He wouldn't get Jamiroquai gig, I think, and that's enough..

Improvisation on Bass - Completely Pointless
Faithless replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I'll be watching how this rant converts into another jazz/improvisation bash. It's just rubbish. Man,better go and practice some bass, it will make sense. by the way, Silddx, did you study with Jake? -
I'd be happy to hear his response about this.. BTW, I just got from studio, where I recorded bass part on some dnb/rap/dub stuff, and studio guy (a DJ actually) was raving about all those amazing sounds coming from ACG.. really cracking basses and preamps those ACGs are
-
Well, I also have some issues with batteries, though, I managed to leave the jack in the bass for a night, so this may contribute why they ran off after about two weeks - I put brand new Energizers into bass.. (at least the red light says so) I'll just buy a new pair of batteries - the third time won't lie..

Bass players who play both "guitar" and keyboard bass
Faithless replied to Annoying Twit's topic in General Discussion
i'll keep that MiniAk thing in mind, thanks, Paul.. For 300 euros it seems just nice.. -
I would like 'prepared' endings, but, most of time time, whichever band it is, it goes in the most boring way - guitard and drummer simply w***s to death, as if there's no one around.. At the end of the tune, esp if it ends with major chord, I like doing some pentatonic run and resolve it to maj 10th on top and the root at the bottom - sounds very nice to my ears..

Courier points system and courier issues
Faithless replied to paul, the's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Do mods mind deleting bots' spam? -1 for FedEx.. Bass, which was in Hiscox hardcase, came damaged from UK - one of the pre-amp control pots was inclined to about 45 degrees, and one wire was fully loose from battery compartment. Case did seem damaged also. I guess it all happened by dropping the case from a slight height. The guy, who delivered the bass couldn't be arsed to wait till I check the box, and was gone in a moment after delivery. -
I thought we were a bunch to spend a lot on gear...
Faithless replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
Oh, Zemaitis - he's a fellow-countryman of mine well, at least his parents were.. he spent most of his time in UK. -
Hanon Virtuoso Pianist book, 1 volume, take 3 or so exercises, and shed them, every day.. Musical enough, very challenging, and, after some years spent, you should get your chops going.. easy faith
Anyway, I got an ebony ramp fitted to my Squier by Martin at the Gallery. I think it was about £80
Man, that looks like a lot of money for a piece of wood.. Now, the need for a ramp thing, for me, is not because it forces me to play lighter (because I tend to play very gently without the help of ramps or whatever..), but because of the economy of motion/movement it gives - fingers don't go that much 'under' the strings, and they recover way faster for another pluck.. I could hardly play without ramp now.. Try it, you won't regret it. Easy Faith
-
You'll have to bring your bass to luthier.. Martin in Bass Gallery does this kind of thing, as other luthiers.. BTW, ramp in my ACG is 'screwed', does it make the bass sacred?
-
A bit of everything.. some RnB/nu-soul stuff from Common, some of John Mayer new album, some jazz - Dave Brubeck "Time Out" (is it Paul Desmond on sax? I'm loving the man.. His collaboration with G Mulligan is even better - loving 'Two of A mind".. Oh, and it just started playing - Peterson/ Ray Brown - Night Train..
On what basis do you come up with that?????? Most (if not all) the D class amps apparently use stock parts anyway (ie the entire poweramp sections are actually the same modules bought from the same manufacturer). That would be a lot of the reason why all the manufacturers suddenly produce amps that do 1200w at the same time etc etc... Given that this is probably using similar tech, if not the same part for the amp section I would think it is probably likely to be as reliable as any of the rest. The preamp on the other hand could sound rubbish. Of course I might be wrong, but I cant tell from a picture and a look at the spec any more than you can!
Err, it's cool, mate.. Well, I'm no spec, when it comes to tech stuff, but HB stuff isn't 'quality' gear in the end, is it.. I couldn't get on with design anyway, so Ibby remains my best bet.. easy faith
-
That HB thing doesn't look very reliable for me.. But I wanted to share this, haven't spotted this before, maybe it's a new thing from Ibanez?: http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_p5210_promethean.htm Very much 'TCElectronic', right.. For 739 euros, looks good. Shame, that it doesn't have wheels..
-
How about trasportation issues? Is it flexible enough to hook into your baggage when flying?
-
Well, that Ibby combo has some sort of handle underneath it..
-
it got me thinking about this Auralex Gramma thing.. First of all, in future I'll be using a lil' Ibanez Promethean combo, so if it i'll on the stage floor, hooked with Gramma pad, I'm going to struggle to hear myself, so, if I tilt-up the cab (about 45 degrees or so), will Auralex still work? I mean, does the cab have to sit on Auralex fully, so the Pad is effective?

Warning, Jazz content!... Here's Janek doing his thing in Bob Reynolds' gig... These few tunes are the ones I really dig: Check Janek's solo break on the following!!! enjoy, Faith
