iGig is nearly your best bet, I think.. Well, I don't have a 'double' bag, only a single, but they're amazing.. Though, I wouldn't want to put double iGig bag with two basses, an amphead, laptop and other bits being inside on my shoulders!!...

Hmm, I've been looking at these Genz combos for quite some time now, and I haven't yet found another thing that portable and that lightweight.. While these things are the main priorities, I got a headache of choosing between 8" and 10" cab versions.. Its' a bit of shame that 10" combo is 60£ more expensive than 8" brother.. Well, 8" inch thing is even lighter, and that's good, but I've been thinking if there's a lot difference in giving 'air' from different size speakers..? I've been told that 8" combo works for practice/acoustic gigs, while 10" is more suitable for 'usual' gigs.. But does it differ that much? I'm going to use my amp for gigs, (with loud drummers maybe) and only use it as a monitor, as there's always some kind of PA around.. Can I get away with 8" thing? any thoughts welcome cheers Faith
Same for me - he has been doing the David Letterman show for god knows how long. Dug this old one out from years ago. Garry
Is that Marcus Miller behind W Lee, doing unusual thing? And the drummer, judging from his gear, seems like at the wrong gig..
It wouldn't play for me, so I can't say. I would rather hear you playing. Have you got anything? Youtube clips? Recordings?
Is my playing the case at the moment? well, here it is, but there are only few clips, so I don't know if you can judge by them.. http://www.youtube.com/user/Faithlessism?feature=mhum And, Mike, you can dowload those clips as long as you've subscribed, indeed! (I use Realplayer youtube downloader app for Firefox, which is legal as far as I know..)

So, I've just discovered that Janek is offering premium video podcasts on his page that you can subscribe to.. http://janekgwizdala.com/Home.html you can choose either a 'trial' one or 'continual' one which is slightly cheaper I guess.. I chose the latter one as this man has too much to say about music whatever it is that can't be missed.. I've just finished watching the cast, and it's based on working on some exercises and developing certain ideas on them, well it's all practice routine.. definetly worth watching for those who are hunting ideas on their practice.. I got so inspired by that stuff that I'm about to pick my bass once again today, though I've been shedding about 4 hours so far today I think and I'm kinda tired.. easy Faith

I have never managed to get the slap thing going, but I doubt if I'll ever try, simply because I don't feel I need it. Though, I had a gig with a pop artist once, and there was one rather 'jamiroquaisky' tune where you probably couldn't get away without slapping.. and, when it came for me to play a solo.. well, let's say, slap didn't sound good in my hands then..
My attitude to this has changed completely. Not knowing theory and not being able to read now makes me feel like a right sucker. I could have been so much better as a musician had I bothered to get my head out my arse years ago, and even recently. I also feel like a baby, incomplete and naive to music. Here starts a new and exciting journey!
You still don't need to read to be in a band, right... Seriously though, I'm glad you've 'found' reading, Sild. It definetly makes one a better musician.

Scotts bass lessons - soloing on static dominant chords
Faithless replied to devinebass's topic in Theory and Technique
Couldn't be bothered to search for arpeggios thread, so, a questie regarding II V I.. Now, while major sequence is II-V-I-VI, and we use altered VI there, what chord should I use on minor II-V-I-(?) Altered VI doesn't seem to work on minor II V I's.. I've tried a few things but I'm not sure about it.. cheers Faith -
Hmm, that's strange - about year and half ago I was offered to dep for this show, and my friend who I had to dep for said it was 'easy indeed' to read, and, moreover, we would have had one rehearsal before the show.. Finally, I didn't get to see the charts, cuz there happened some misunderstanding, and other fella got the dep.. Oh, and did I mention that my reading was poor indeed at that time..
Sorry, Faithless, I'll be sounding like a Luddite here - I assume phrasing is the distinctive manner of play and feel, exhibited by a given player? The unique emphasis they add to their playing?
I didn't actually got your question/point.. Anyway, what I meant was that it is not the bass/amp/pedal/whatever makes you sound like someone - what actually makes you sound like 'player x' is analyzing that player's playing and imitating his phrasing. To make it short, it's in your hands, not in your amp or bass.. But, then, as I assume, people here are discussing the 'gear way'..
-
I think it's much more to do with trying to imitate certain players phrasing, than with gear or whatever.. For quite some time I've been listening to J Gwizdala, and all I can say is that his sound, to me, is phenomenal - touch, phrasing.. And when added some reverb, it's just brilliant.
-
Its funny, because sometimes BC is becoming similar to Talkbass to my eyes - after a while, folks who come here to post 'a recognisable bassline', will post their favourite tunes instead, that have nothing to do with being easily recognisable.. Classic
-
Well, MB cabs are famous of their midrangey sound, so the problem must be somewhere else. Try lifting cab up, or tilting it back.. EQ'ing also helps - you don't want to fill your sound with lots of bass and low mids.

Crap, no Ryanair flights near that date.. Nearest dates are Feb 3 (Thursday!!) to Edinburgh, and leaving it is either Feb 6 (11:35 departure!!! the meet will be at its pick), or next Thursday Feb 10.. Complete sh*t..

Well, I can't agree by any means that Grey's 'sense of melody' is better than Janeks - it's just different. Janek has both huge knowledge and sense of melody as he studied piano for a long time, and you can hear it in his playing/compositions. Now, compositions - Grey can make more complex compositions but if its complex it doesn't have to mean its better. Well at least it doesn't make me to listen to the man at all.. All in all, if you compare the three (and they're all too different to compare, I suppose..), then, I think, that Janek is no doubt most melodic player (I was gonna suggest the same thing Doddy said - try singing Hadriens, Tonys and janek's lines and you'll get it..), while Hadrien is most technical, and Tony, hmmm.. compositions maybe?
It's pleasant enough, he has a nice feel to the bass and he is very sympathetic with the drummer. However, it's decent tune played well and arranged very simply. There is nothing in there that marks it out as special. Certainly not ridiculously musical by any means.
I actually don't care about bass or 'sympaticity' with drummer or other players as individuals - what I really dig is the athmosphere of the tune, which is really flowing and a bit 'out', for me. And, yes arrangement may be very simple, but does it need to be complex to make sound a tune 'better'? So, once again, it's all that (and maybe something more, which I can't put in words) that makes it ridiculously musical for me. Why would have any problem with that?
-
Jay, that Janek's interpretation of "Twice" is just ridiculous, too musical.. Probably my fave song in the album, not to mention Janek's opening solo, which is one of the most musical things I happened to come accross to in my life so far.. Crazy. Faith
