And then get another of the same cab to run with it. I know from when I started power ratings on chassis' were a very iffy process so I never take as gospel power ratings, tbh. I agree that that is a historical 'fear' but still think it applies... And you'll like the sound bonus of a pair, I'm sure.

Didn't we do this a few weeks ago? -
hmmmm.. just going on the detail in this thread and having had the opportunity of playing with a few top class players ..one of whom was pretty much the 1st call guy in his field in this country for quite a while and I can say that no one around here gets remotely close.... and that includes guys either on major world tours as we speak on have been on them in the not too distant past. (There are more than a couple who will crop up on the local circuit) I know what sacrifices he made in his formative years, but that isn't a unique situation.by any means. What he has innately ..coupled with a lot of hard work would take him far farther than many many many people who put in the same hours. Of that, I am convinced. How else did he end up as the No 1 call... if all it was was down to playing hours and why can't anyone with enough determination and application do it. I'd say, they can't.
How about Roger Glover and Ian Paice then?
Always had a soft spot for those two as I grew up listening to them. Saw a relatively recent concert on youtube and Paice still had it... and Glover was still there. I thought they were as good a rock section as there was at that time...?? and still good today. Of course, Bonham is dead but I doubt I'd say that about them now, tbh..???
Best? Too subjective, but I'll lob in Francis Rocco Prestia and David Garibaldi (Tower of Power).
Yes, of course, too subjective... but even tho I think I should... I can't get Rocco.. too mechanical and cold.. oh well..!!
The small pub version of this rig is to get a couple of Ampeg SVT210AV cabs - cheap and light and takes up about 1 square foot of space when stacked vertically, which results in a tower of power roughly equivalent to half a fridge. Amp-wise I would recommend the Tech21 VT Bass amp to go with it - not the Ampeg Micro VR that was designed to go with the cabs ironically, since it it goes snap crackle and pop when hooked up to two of these cabs! Or if you have a decent micro amp already just add a VT Bass pedal for that SVT flavour.
hmmmm someone..?? surely..??
As an aside: I saw the Foo Fighters at the MK/National Bowl a few months ago. Supported by Royal Blood and Iggy Pop. Of the three Iggy Pop is the only one I'd bother to see again.
Cool, local boy from around here got the drum gig... will tell him, I'm sure he'll enjoy that.
-
I think you'll need two subs... or you'llhave to back off with what you put thru it. Kick will be ok..not bass, IMO. I'd say that rig will do a pub fine..will begin to struggle in a larger hall... ie, 250 plus people and outside for a few less.
-
And then we come back to how much is the dep gig paying you to get it right...but it should right enough they can't/don't have any complaints anyway. At a decent level, ...the demands are harder but I wouldn't stress about your mates gig and the local as these are all our formative times. Get in with a few people you know and the experience is likely to be kinder and easier... Go for very good money and turn up on the evening and meet the band is where the roasting tend to start... It is often about getting out there and getting those miles under your belt... Nobody knows everything... had a quick look at Tim's set list and there are songs I don't know by name..so I'd need to be able to cover that in advance with Spotify or Youtube, then I'd make quite notes for quick reference...even if it was simply '12 bar'..
-
Depends what the amp is... but IIRC correctly the SVTll is a VERY heavy beast and it is THAT that is the main issue. I think getting that amp up on top of an 810 is a 2 man lift IMO. As much as I am a fan of big blocks and rigs... you need the right stages for them.. which means EASY load-ins...preferably ramped and access from a large car park. Then you need a stage that is a min of 48x12ft Anything less, and all the impracticalities come to roost
-
I was going to say that you'll need about 100 plus... but really you should be able to busk more songs that you know but have never played, especially the ones which have just 2 or 3 changes... ie, V, ch and M8. If you know how the song goes and can recall it in your head, you should be able to pretty much play it on 1.. as in the count So it depends how many songs you 'know'... and you should be able to transpose them as well, on the fly...Certainly for simple songs. I haven't read it, but I doubt Tim's set list will be wildly off the mark of a list of 'dep standards'

I prefer A, but that has to be taken in terms of the sound and parameters of the test.

are there any super bands with poor bass players?
JTUK replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I actually think Adam Clayton is great in U2... is he great anywhere else..?? Well, no one is calling him and he doesn't need them too either but he does a good job there, IMO. I'll throw this one in though as I've said it before. Verdine White fits the bill of the OP, IMO -
Not sure it is very easy to edit/proram to any purpose, but I do think some core sounds are good... and it becomes quite a cheap and easy way to 'stomp' your way thru the gig... I think the GT10-B is more easily programmable but still too many useless sounds. I've got about 4 useful ones at most... out of 200 plus. Easy to 'edit' on the fly...altho you'll loss that 'change' as soon as you switch out of the patch which may be a good thing LIVE. I'm not sure I'd buy a ME-6B to program myself..good luck.

Congratulations, you've achieved everything you set out to do.. Must qualify you for a discount off the next purchase, surely

All these basses with very low action here. I don't see them in shops and I don't see people playing them on gigs. I'd say1mm at the 1st is very low indeed... that is slightly slimmer than a credit card. If you are anywhere near that at the 12th.... I'd be surprised and would say 2mm at the 12th is low. For me, it is a feel thing..and if it felt good and right I wouldn't be interested in how much it measured, myself Obviously, bass action here isn't typical.. In fact, is anything here typical..?? or do we just post for an audience..?
-
Berg 110..?? If so, add another 112 Berg, IMO.
-
Last time I was at bassGear, they didn't have one or I would have tried it. Wasn't in the market for a 210 but I like the CN series 12's and I doubt Berg make a bad cab. I think they are consitant in knowing what their toine goals are and what their market it...so I don't think they'd throw in something completely off the wall
My cousin played in a string quartet that had (probably still has) about 20 members; the manager would take any booking that came in and pull together whoever was available. They were all expected to know the same repertoire. It was all about the wedding gigs and on a busy Saturday in June he'd have anything up to four quartets playing in different venues round the country at once, all using the same name... I've wondered since whether the same approach could be taken in other genres.
Some bookers do that...altho whether they keep the name, I'm less sure...but they can put multiple line-ups together. Some guys are so busy running the bands, they don't play in them anymore.
-
They all come off at the same time... so I can clean the bass up. Takes 5 mins... the necks are stable and only looking to tweak the neck once a year...if that.

Aguilar Tonehammer 500 vs Little Mark iii (or any other suggestions?)
JTUK replied to knoxy26's topic in Amps and Cabs
As a thought, has anyone tried running a Aguilar preamp into a Markbass power amp? Best of both worlds, or major faff for no benefit?
Faff for no beneifit, IMO. If you what a TH pre. just get the TH500 and you have one lightweight capable amp. People go lightweight because they want less to carry...IMO. -
6 weeks.....really! Wow! I know it's an individual thing but that is frequent.
It is more the feel of them all gunked up that is the biggest driver... but the sound is important of course. I'll clean the strings and re-use so it is not like it is a brand new pack..altho I do have 3 brand new sets waiting to be used.
They are. I'll never say a word against the Bergs - I'm a big fan - but the S212 has magic in the mids I've not really had from other cabs. It's probably just a preference thing.
It may well be...but it really shouldn't be. The character was what elevated it, IMO...above the others in the demo plus it works with very different amps...i,e the TH/PF500 and a Demeter....they are quite worlds apart, IMO as well as the stylistic things we had going on. I don't use the 212, just the 2x112 version with a horn.
-
6 weeks and when they feel off. Who on earth would change 1 string?
-
As far as I know, the rating is 250 in that enclosure.... but they can put out a lot of sound. I push my 2x112 hard with a 800w amp... and I'm very conscious of break-up... but the sound is full and clean. The point Stevie makes is VERY pertinent. Try getting PAS drivers which were in SWR. I couldn't get any 12-15 years ago when SWR were still a going concern and NO BODY here could recone. Kits are supposedly available in the U.S.. or were, but for multiple chassis cabs, you might want to rethink that bespoke idea. For a 210... break one and you have potentially a LOT of hassle... for a 610... the cab is pretty much a write-off. So.... a good honest driver, off the shelf is GOOD, IMO.
